Contests, Juried Art Shows - Photography, Art Gallery Photographers working in all styles and mediums are invited to enter up to two (2) of their photographic images for the International juried photography exhibition: Glimpses in Time. Juror: René de Guzman, Senior Art Curator Oakland Museum of California. The Joyce Gordon Gallery is a commercial fine art gallery located in the downtown district of Oakland, California. It exhibits art that reflects the social and cultural diversity of the artists of the San Francisco Bay Area as well as international artists. The aim of the gallery is to respect the creative pursuits of the individual and seek to make such work accessible to a broad audience. Every year the Joyce Gordon Gallery presents the "Glimpses in Time" exhibit to honor a Master Photographer. This year we celebrate Manuel Alvarez Bravo, a Mexican photographer born in 1902. He is one of the foremost figures in the history of photography. Bravo's work not only documents life in Mexico but also visually explores a surrealistic approach to the composition of his photographic subject. Awards & Recognition:One (1) Best of Show, the Manuel Alvarez Bravo Award: The juror will evaluate the overall composition of the photograph, how well the elements within the photograph are emphasized and the overall quality of the image. The photograph the judge deems most aesthetically stimulating and emotionally impacting will receive this award. International Watermedia XVI will be juried by acclaimed artist Thomas J. Owen, A.W.S., N.W.S., who will also conduct a workshop August 12-14, 2009. The workshop will be at the Colorado Springs School, located in the shadow of Pikes Peak, and may include plein air painting in the beautiful Pikes Peak region, weather permitting.The exhibition is open to all artists 18 years of age or older. The Camera Obscura Gallery invites photographers working in all mediums, styles and schools of thought to participate in its exhibitions. Traditional, contemporary, and experimental photograph-based mixed techniques are welcome. This is an open, non-categoried, jury-selected competition with accepted works to be exhibited in one of the world's oldest and best known photograph galleries beginning September 18, 2009. The jurors will select approximately 50-75 photographs to be shown in a six-week exhibition at the prestigious Camera Obscura Gallery. Jurors are Hal Gould and Loretta Young-Gautier. For over 40 years, Hal Gould has operated showcases for fine-art photography. In 1963, he founded theColorado Photographic Art Center -- one of the first venues devoted exclusively to showing andpromoting photography as a medium for fine art.
