ARTIST OF THE MONTH WINNER
Alan Soffer began his art journey making sculptural forms in a clay class with his son in 1973. His son lost interest, but Alan was just getting started. After showing his art at the Jewish Museum in Philadelphia in 1985, he discovered abstract painting through a workshop at Bennington College, and never looked back. Alan describes himself as "the quintessential abstract expressionist...because that is truly who I am even though I didn’t begin that
way. I begin work in different ways. Sometimes I simply concentrate on what colors are in my head. Other times I may do a quick abstract series of marks and shapes." Read more about Alan and his work in his Featured Artist of the Month page: https://www.theartlist.com/featured-artists/2021-alan-soffer
SECOND PLACE WINNER

THIRD PLACE WINNER
Enrico Miguel Thomas is an emerging artist from New York, where he earned a BFA from the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn. Known as the “The Subway Artist of New York”, his work has been featured locally on NY1 news and Fox 5, and reviewed by amNY newspaper and the New York Times. He has also received international exposure having had his work featured on Mesamashi TV of Japan and also reviewed by La Stampa newspaper of Italy. NYC4PA CALL FOR ENTRY - PORTALS 2021
“She Came in Through the Bathroom Window” sang the Beatles. “Lookin’ Out My Backdoor” sang Creedence Clearwater Revival. Doors and windows and arches and frames and tunnels are so much a part of our lives. There are so many ways to think about them. We can look at them, or through them. We can poke our hand out the window to test the weather, or just see a wonderful scene a little differently when framed by an arch or array of tree limbs in a park. For this call your images can focus on
the "portal" itself like a closed door or a wonderful windowsill or the view through the portal to the other side. Does it frame the main subject of the photograph or does it add another dimension, such as the distortions of old glass or reflections in windowpanes. Once again, we invite you to be creative and have fun in the process. As with all calls, all 2D photographic art is accepted.

Vestige Concept Gallery - Like Clockwork
Like Clockwork seeks to showcase works of art that address the nature of time. From birth, our daily routines, anxieties on aging, death, rebirth, to creation and destruction, the forms of time give shape to human experience. Traditional thought, from China to ancient Greece, embodies time not only in gods and goddesses but also in the various devices which measure and grasp it. Time as a flux is apparent in the flow of grains in an hourglass; time as eternal return, in the circling aeons
of the Indian and Maya calendars or the tail-eating serpent Ouroboros; time as a universal pattern of synchronous events, in the I-Ching or the astrologers' intricate figure-work. The paradoxes inherent in these parallel ways of conceiving time reveal the mysterious Coincidence of Opposites which underlies the cosmos. It's as the old adage says.. all "like clockwork"... We are accepting works from emerging, mid-career, and/or professional artists. Work should somehow relate to the theme.

PH21 Gallery presents: Feminine / Masculine – A Curated International Photography Exhibition
Portrayals of femininity and masculinity are, without doubt, central to a number of art forms, photography not being an exception. The past few decades have given rise to – often heated – discussions and criticisms of past, recent, and current photographic practices for their lack of reflection on the assumptions, stereotypes, and prejudices surrounding photographic approaches to femininity and masculinity. Fine art and commercial works alike have been critiqued for the potential
consequences of their approach and presentation. Historically femininity and masculinity have been conceived, among others, as oppositions, as complements of each other, or as positions on a continuum. There are hardly any ways of portraying femininity and masculinity that would or could not be considered trivial, conservative, pretentious, demeaning, distasteful, clichéd or even offensive by some. ... Please read the full call on our website. See prospectus link below.

PH21 Gallery presents: Personality: Contemporary Portraiture – A Curated International Photography Exhibition
Portraiture emerged as one of the most prominent genres of depictive media early in the history of the visual arts, and the tacit or explicit rules, conventions and cultural expectations have always influenced the ways by which artists approached the genre. Photography is no exception; numerous different and characteristic styles of portraiture emerged throughout the history of the medium. Today we live in an exciting new era for portraiture. There has never been a time in human history
when so many portraits and self-portraits were produced day after day as in the era of digital technologies. Photographers have responded to the cultural, social and technological changes by reinterpreting the age-old genre of portraiture, and it is always an exciting and rewarding task to organize an exhibition for some of the recent achievements in the field. PH21 Gallery invites photographers to submit their work for a group exhibition themed Personality: Contemporary Portraiture. We are
looking for submissions from all photographers who are interested in this genre, and who would like to share their work with a wider international audience through the exposure of PH21 Gallery. The theme is broadly construed; from traditional fine art portraits to selfies, people may be portrayed in countless unique ways. Indeed, we are interested in all possible creative photographic interpretations of the theme.
