| DEADLINE: December 11, 2022 NYC4PA BLACK AND WHITE 2022 Photography, in its infancy, was entirely about black and white or monochrome images. Color was an after print add on. NYC4PA, with this call, is once again focusing on one of our favorite themes - Black and White celebrating those images still so central to the field of photography despite the introduction of color film and
the vast array of image capture and post process adjustment software. Send us your monochrome images where all the emotion, texture and beauty are expressed in shades from white to dark. No matter if your original image was shot with tri x, a digital SLR, or your phone, if the end product is a terrific monochrome image (Black and White or Sepia), it fits the call. As with all NYC4PA calls all 2D photo mediums are welcome. Website: HTTP://WWW.NYC4PA.COM Prospectus: HTTPS://WWW.NYC4PA.COM |
| DEADLINE: December 12, 2022 PH21 Gallery presents: Feminine / Masculine – A Curated
International Photography Exhibition Portrayals of femininity and masculinity are, without doubt, central to a number of art forms, photography not being an exception. The past few decades have given rise to – often heated – discussions and criticisms of past, recent, and current photographic practices for their lack of reflection on the assumptions, stereotypes, and prejudices surrounding
photographic approaches to femininity and masculinity. Fine art and commercial works alike have been critiqued for the potential consequences of their approach and presentation. Historically femininity and masculinity have been conceived, among others, as oppositions, as complements of each other, or as positions on a continuum. There are hardly any ways of portraying femininity and masculinity that would or could not be considered trivial, conservative, pretentious, demeaning, distasteful,
clichéd or even offensive by some. It often seems that everything has been both said and photographed about this subject, and yet, it is not possible to ignore the persistence of the theme in our contemporary visual culture. What is it that we can still value and possibly revive from the rich history of photography; are there any novel ways left to approach this subject with a fresh critical eye? The theme is broadly construed, as the photographic portrayal of femininity and masculinity is
independent of generic or stylistic constraints. Indeed, we are interested in all possible creative photographic interpretations of the theme. Website: https://www.ph21gallery.com Prospectus: https://www.ph21gallery.com/cfe-feminine-masculine-23 |

| DEADLINE: January 09, 2023 PH21 Gallery presents: Upside down – A Curated International Photography Exhibition While photographs are valued for their depictive potential and representative content, the non-depictive, non-representational aspects of photographic works are also strongly related to their aesthetic significance. In this spirit, art
photography has always aimed for the unity of form and content. Abstract photography has gone even further, celebrating abstract compositions for their own sake, without the need for appreciating or even recognising depictive content in the images. Turning a photograph upside down tends to strip it from its representative function, because the depicted scene and objects are difficult if not impossible to recognise when the image is turned to its side or upside down. However, the formal,
compositional aspects of photographs become more pronounced that way, as our attention is steered away from scene and object recognition. In our Upside down exhibition, we would like to show photographs that are indeed turned upside down. Any photograph is eligible if the artist is willing to show it in this unusual way. Abstract photographs might be considered to be the most suitable candidates for this experimental exhibiting method, but there are many depictive works as well whose
compositional qualities might also be appreciated in novel ways when turning them upside down, thus liberating us from studying and concentrating on their representational content. The theme is broadly construed, as this topic is independent of generic or stylistic constraints. Website: https://www.ph21gallery.com Prospectus: https://www.ph21gallery.com/cfe-upside-down-22 |

Uniquely used as both a tool and a subject to create certain effects and to elicit emotion. Light levels can directly influence our mood and the feeling of atmosphere within artwork. As light works with shadow, it lends a sense of depth; with this, the work can feel complete. We celebrate light and all it can do in its role in art. Show us BRILLIANCE from your perspective.
