Happy April from TheArtList! ““An artist cannot fail; it is a success to be one." – Charles Horton Cooley Happy April, Artists and Art Lovers! We hope this finds you happy and healthy! The quote above resonated with us this month as it's important not to get caught up measuring "success" in black and white terms. Not every artist will make a fortune or win every contest they enter. But not everyone can create the things you, as artists, can. The fact that you all are willing and able to uniquely convey what you see and feel with the
passion and talent you possess is a success in itself. And the world is a better place for it! Thank you for sharing your art with us. As usual, we've got some great art calls this month, so keep reading! We also have some amazing art to share from our Artist of the Month winners. Check them out below and be sure to enter this month's contest! If you are a gallery or organization that would like to take advantage of our current discounts to promote your upcoming art
contest or event, visit https://www.theartlist.com/submit. As always, we thank you all -- artists and organizations -- for supporting TheArtList. -------------------------------- - Please note that we are only able to showcase a small number of calls in the monthly newsletter, so be sure to check our website www.theartlist.com. You can login to search for calls that match your interests.
- Each month we host a free Artist of the Month contest (see below). This gives us a chance to see all the talented and inspiring members of our community. This month, we are thrilled to recognize a few fantastic artists who submitted their work to our monthly art contest: 1st Place: Dejona
Dino, 2nd Place: Cheryl Boomer, 3rd Place: Anuttama Chakraborty, and most audience votes Viewer's Choice
selection is: Roberta Barlati. Congratulations and thank you for sharing your art with us!
- Speaking of our Artist of the Month contests, we ask that entrants please remember to include a link to their website along with their submission.
- Do you follow us on any of our social media pages? We post new calls several times a week - and occasionally some of them have a very short submission window. If you aren't following us on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest, Tumblr, Reddit, and LinkedIn, you might be missing some calls! If you are also on LinkedIn, be sure to connect with us there!
ARTIST OF THE MONTH WINNER Dejona Dino is a 16-year-old artist from Tirana, Albania. It's been 3 years since she's started her art journey on a serious note
and while she has certainly grown as an artist, she has lofty ambitions and seeks to master her talents, particularly in traditional oil painting and realism. "I want to share my art and my inner-self with the whole world. Who knows, maybe my pieces could be in the league of other great modern artists all around." Read more about Dejona and see more of her soulful art on our Featured Artist of the Month page: https://www.theartlist.com/featured-artists/2023-dejona-dino
SECOND PLACE WINNER Cheryl Boomer is an artist from Portland, Oregon. She grew up in South Africa and immigrated 30 years ago to America. She is a self-taught artist and uses acrylic paint on mostly
reclaimed materials such as wood board and canvas. The bright colours and swirling designs are composed almost entirely of dots. The designs are mostly abstract, although during Covid she started to paint more "human " forms as a way to cope with loneliness and isolation. She is inspired by the vividness of a particular colour, the dynamism of a line or the dimensions and idiosyncrasies of the surface on which she paints. See more of Cheryl's art here: https://www.facebook.com/cherylboomerart/
THIRD PLACE WINNER Anuttama Chakraborty is an artist from Faridabad, India. She is also a Professor in Fashion Design in Delhi. Her subject expertise includes fashion
illustration, fabric manipulation, draping, trade sketching, visualization and representational skills, CAD and denim wear design. Anuttama is an ardent practitioner of water colors and pastels in art and illustrations. She loves to experiment with a variety of subjects and mediums. Her favorite subjects include flowers, cityscape, portraits and still life work. Many of her works have been exhibited, published and awarded in national and international platforms. VIEWER'S CHOICE Roberta Barlati lives between Ravenna and Dubai, where she taught ceramic decoration at the Dubai International Art Center and at the Yadawei Ceramic Studio,
and where she exhibits her sculptures at the Alserkal Cultural Foundation. She began in 1983 as a ceramist in Ravenna, characterizing her production with majolica inspired by Byzantine mosaics and with elaborate polychrome vine leaves. | DEADLINE: April 03, 2023 PH21 Gallery presents: Silence – A Curated International Photography Exhibition Silence is always conceived against its opposites; sound, noise, loudness. Silence is strongly associated with loneliness and alienation, the unknown and disturbing landscape on the one hand, and the known tranquillity and peace on the other hand. Photographically, the contrast between deep darkness and dazzling light is also decisive. After natural or social catastrophes, everything falls silent;
empty cities, villages, abandoned public transport and empty workplaces remind us for the transience and fragility of humankind. Silence is accompanied by quiet activities such as contemplation and meditation, which negate the very nature of action itself. Silence is also often present in still life, cityscapes, portraits, and many other photographic genres. PH21 Gallery invites photographers to submit their work for our group exhibition themed Silence. We are looking for submissions from all
photographers who would like to share their silence experiences with a wider international audience through the exposure of PH21 Gallery. The theme is broadly construed without any photographic genre restrictions. Indeed, we are interested in all possible creative photographic interpretations of the theme. | DEADLINE: April 16, 2023 NYC4PA PATTERNS AND SHADOWS 2023 Walking anywhere
in the world at different times of day you can see dramatic changes as the light goes from midday bright to dusk. Early morning/late afternoon light can transform a simple scene to one of great interest as shadows grow longer and shorter. Consider city streets with shadows of tall buildings crossing sidewalks, cars, busses and people. Similarly bright light casting shadows on a flight of stairs creates a canvas of black and white stripes. Just as powerful are shots where the impact of the image
is derived from patterns in the composition such as the line-up of palm trees in the tropics with the shadows cast along a sandy beach, rows of theater chairs etc. Different images, interesting interpretations of your own shadow are welcome as well. Be creative - send us your best. Website: HTTP://WWW.NYC4PA.COM Prospectus: HTTPS://WWW.NYC4PA.COM |

themes related to identity, culture, human impact, and politics. | DEADLINE: May 01, 2023 PH21 Gallery presents: 'Significant Colour' – A Curated International Photography Exhibition There are two kinds of photographs with respect to the significance of their use of colours. On the one hand, ever since colour film technology became widely available, colour has become the default in most photographic practices. That is, some photographs are in colour not because their colours bear some special significance (compared, for instance, to their possible black and white counterparts) but simply because the available film or digital technology has long turned
colour to be the common method of capturing photographic images. We may think of these photographs as colour by default. On the other hand, colours are often central to the meaning of photographs for their emphatic, symbolic, psychological, social, compositional, etc. significance. These photographs would not work in black and white the same way or they would not work at all; that they are in colour is not merely a technological given, rather, it is an integral, formative and significant aspect
of their photographic meaning. We may think of these photographs as colour by significance. PH21 Gallery invites photographers to submit their work for a group exhibition themed Significant Colour. We are looking for submissions from all photographers who are interested in the significance of any colour in photography and would like to share their work with a wider international audience through the exposure of PH21 Gallery. The theme is broadly construed. Website: https://www.ph21gallery.com Prospectus: https://www.ph21gallery.com/cfe-colour-23 |

| DEADLINE: May 08, 2023 PH21 Gallery presents: '–scapes' @ Barcelona – A Curated International Photography Exhibition There are all sorts of natural, artificial, and even
staged scenes that capture the attention of photographers, compel and inspire them to pause, observe and create an image for the sake of the scene and convey a personal interpretation of what they see. These types of photographs go by a variety of names; they are called landscapes, cityscapes, streetscapes, seascapes, waterscapes, cloudscapes, or even desertscapes, treescapes, bodyscapes, and the like. Among these photographs the most successful ones go well beyond the mere recording of the
visual qualities of a place as they bear the marks of the interpretive insights of the photographer. They make us contemplate a scene as meaningful and significant. For it is never challenging to merely re-present; it takes a novel conception of the scene to engage us, viewers, through the keen eyes and the creative mind of the photographer. PH21 Gallery invites photographers to submit their work for a group exhibition themed –scapes. We are looking for submissions from all photographers who are
interested in this subject and would like to share their work with a wider international audience through the exposure of PH21 Gallery. The theme is broadly construed, as the photographic portrayal of scenes of the natural and built environment is independent of generic or stylistic constraints. Indeed, we are interested in all possible creative photographic interpretations of the theme. This exhibition will be presented in Barcelona.
