PH21 Gallery presents: 'Significant Colour' – A Curated International Photography Exhibition

There are two kinds of photographs with respect to the significance of their use of colours. On the one hand, ever since colour film technology became widely available, colour has become the default in most photographic practices. That is, some photographs are in colour not because their colours bear some special significance (compared, for instance, to their possible black and white counterparts) but simply because the available film or digital technology has long turned colour to be the common method of capturing photographic images. We may think of these photographs as colour by default. On the other hand, colours are often central to the meaning of photographs for their emphatic, symbolic, psychological, social, compositional, etc. significance. These photographs would not work in black and white the same way or they would not work at all; that they are in colour is not merely a technological given, rather, it is an integral, formative and significant aspect of their photographic meaning. We may think of these photographs as colour by significance. PH21 Gallery invites photographers to submit their work for a group exhibition themed Significant Colour. PH21 Gallery presents: '–scapes' @ Barcelona – A Curated International Photography Exhibition

There are all sorts of natural, artificial, and even staged scenes that capture the attention of photographers, compel and inspire them to pause, observe and create an image for the sake of the scene and convey a personal interpretation of what they see. These types of photographs go by a variety of names; they are called landscapes, cityscapes, streetscapes, seascapes, waterscapes, cloudscapes, or even desertscapes, treescapes, bodyscapes, and the like. Among these photographs the most successful ones go well beyond the mere recording of the visual qualities of a place as they bear the marks of the interpretive insights of the photographer. They make us contemplate a scene as meaningful and significant. For it is never challenging to merely re-present; it takes a novel conception of the scene to engage us, viewers, through the keen eyes and the creative mind of the photographer. PH21 Gallery invites photographers to submit their work for a group exhibition themed –scapes. We are looking for submissions from all photographers who are interested in this subject and would like to share their work with a wider international audience through the exposure of PH21 Gallery. Willow Pond SLO - Call to Artists - KIPAIPAI Workshop

This program at Willow Pond SLO in wine country on the Central Coast of California will focus on professional practices in areas of gallery representation and museum exhibitions, self-promotion, use of social media in promotion, the importance of relevant critical writing, presentation and identifying and strategizing personal and professional goals. 16 participants will be selected from our jury of professionals for a 2-day workshop on best professional practices in the creative industry. The workshop takes place September 29 - October 1, 2023, with local fare provided for daily meals. Through private one-on-one sessions and group meetings, students will have the rare opportunity to meet with a team of guest professionals. Accepted artists will be notified by Monday, May 15, 2023, and must pay their tuition of $900 in advance to hold their place. Artists are responsible for their own travel, transport, and housing expenses. Special rates have been blocked at The Agrarian Hotel in Arroyo Grande, CA. for attendees. Optional morning and evening activities will be offered at Willow Pond SLO. Check-in for artists will be Friday, September 29 after 3 pm. The De(evolution) of Karen seeks to examine the fundamental question who is Karen? Loved, feared, and misunderstood in the public context, the ubiquitous Karen can be any woman, and every woman. How did Karen get here and what forces led her to a place of special privilege? (Or not?) Taking life (and the manager) by the balls, is Karen really a feminist icon in disguise, or, is she just a self entitled "bitch" that society heaps their spite on? Are we all just as entitled to her as she feels entitled to take the special attention that she feels she deserves? There are also the Karen's whose lives and names are now impacted by this moniker. The De(evolution) of Karen seeks to create a non-literal artistic narrative of "the life of Karen". What was her past? Where does she live? What does she value and how does she spend her time? What does this all look like? The De(evolution) of Karen also seeks to empower any woman who is devalued due to stereotyping, tropes, or otherwise. Solo Photography Exhibition Opportunity at PH21 Gallery

PH21 Gallery invites photographers to submit their work for a solo exhibition opportunity. Please submit a coherent portfolio that is suitable for a solo exhibition, an artist statement and a short bio. The portfolio should consist of at least 15 and at most 35 images. The submission may include one or two series, provided that the two series are suitable for a joint presentation in a single exhibition. There are no generic, stylistic or thematic constraints; photographers working in all photographic areas, genres and styles are welcome to submit their work. The winner of this competition will be awarded a solo exhibition from July 27 – August 19, 2023. PH21 Gallery will cover all printing and installation costs for the solo exhibition. In addition to the brick-and-mortar solo exhibition, the work of the winner will also be presented on a dedicated page of our website. The web page will include the artist statement and the bio of the photographer, together with the critical reviews by the curators. Up to 10 other photographers will be offered the opportunity to present a mini-series of three photographs from their portfolio in the "Photographic Visions" group exhibition. The PleinAir Salon Art Competition is a monthly online art competition that awards over $50,000 each year.
