| DEADLINE: June 05, 2023 3 Square Art -
CaRt23 Contemporary Art in Realism 2023, 2nd International Juried Exhibition In the 1950s, the dominant artistic movement was Abstract Expressionism, an anti-literal and anti-figuration movement that emphasized a burst of emotion, shape, and color on canvas as a visual metaphor for an artist's inner emotional state in regard to subject, circumstance or matter. Never formally organized as a group
or a movement, the Contemporary Realists were a close network of friendships and artistic associations surrounding the New York School, an informal group of American poets, painters, dancers, and musicians. This included Philip Pearlstein, Neil Welliver, William Bailey, Leland Bell, and Louisa Matthiasdottir, A number of Contemporary Realists, like Jack Beal, Nell Blaine, and Jane Freilicher began as noted Second Generation Abstract Expressionists, but by the mid-1950s were creating realist
works. They began painting more traditional subjects like landscape, portraiture, domestic interiors, and still life, though with a contemporary awareness and technique influenced by various movements including the New York School's emphasis on capturing the everyday moment, and the color palette and line styles of their 19th-century artistic forefathers Pierre Bonnard and Edouard Vuillard. Since the 1970s the term Contemporary Realism has been used generally for artists who practice realistic
art with contemporary techniques. In a sense it established a foundation for artists who painted realistically to be viewed as contemporary and innovative. | DEADLINE: June 26, 2023 PH21 Gallery presents: 'Time' – A Curated International
Photography Exhibition August 24 – September 16, 2023. Time is a central concept in our lives, yet no one has ever seen it. It is the measure of our everyday lives, but we rarely reflect on the fact that this fundamental organizer of our lives is also a human creation. Throughout history, humankind has developed countless tools to perfect the measurement of time, documenting the cycles in nature,
the changes of days and seasons, and the changes of our own bodies as time passes by, which also confronts us with our own mortality. In urban spaces, clocks and bells help us track the passing of time so that we do not miss the train, our date, or are not late for work. It is peculiar that when we are having a good time, we feel that it passes faster, while when we are bored or having a bad time for some reason, it seems to pass very slowly. Depicting the passing of time in a still image has
been a welcome challenge for photographers, as well as capturing a fleeting moment. Timelessness and eternity are also present in nature, human life, and our built environment. PH21 Gallery invites photographers to submit their work for our group exhibition themed Time. We are looking for submissions from all photographers who are interested in this theme, and who would like to share their work with a wider international audience through the exposure of PH21 Gallery. The theme is broadly
construed; submissions of all kinds of photographic reflections on time are welcome. Website: https://www.ph21gallery.com Prospectus: https://www.ph21gallery.com/cfe-time-23 |

| DEADLINE: July 03,
2023 PH21 Gallery presents: 'The natural and the artificial' @ ART150 Gallery, Pro Arts Jersey City, NJ, USA A PH21 Gallery Exhibition in ART150 Gallery, Jersey City, NJ, USA. The natural and the artificial are diametrically opposed concepts that evoke contrasting ideas such as
organic versus geometric, spontaneous versus designed, instinctive versus deliberate, wild versus tamed, and more. However, there exists a continuum between these opposing forces, manifesting in the form of tamed nature like gardens or abandoned spaces being reclaimed by nature, for instance. The interplay, cross-border interactions, struggles, and coexistences of the two at these junctures provide unique experiences to explore, especially in the visual realm. Throughout the history of the
medium, photographers have been drawn to the creative possibilities of capturing, interpreting, and presenting the natural, the artificial, and their many intertwined forms. Images of these subjects are among the most captivating ways of elucidating our intricate and often conflicting relationship with our environment. By exploring and depicting the natural and the artificial in all their varied forms, photographers can offer us insight into the complexities of the world we inhabit. PH21 Gallery
invites photographers to submit their work for a group exhibition themed The natural and the artificial. We are looking for submissions from all photographers who are interested in this subject and would like to share their work with a wider international audience through the exposure of PH21 Gallery and Pro Arts Jersey City.
