NYC4PA ABSTRACT

Abstract art is art that does not attempt to represent an accurate depiction of a visual reality, but instead use shapes, colors, forms and gestural marks to achieve its effect. Have a look at photography from when it first became a medium for creating images and you will find portraits as well as still life, street scenes, architecture etc. They were all accurate depictions of the subject matter. As photography evolved it ultimately became what it is today; an all encompassing art form, generated by camera and lens, and producing a vast sampling of imagery from reality to less recognizable abstracts. This call is about those abstracts; images that are not instantly identified as that person, that thing, etc. It doesn't matter if you photograph something abstract or create the abstraction through photographic processes. Macro shots, close ups of graffiti, fanciful post processing manipulations or just photographing something at an angle that disguises it - they all work. As with all NYC4PA calls all 2D photo mediums are welcome.

American Color Print Society Fall Exhibition - OPEN SHOW

THEME- According to Webster Dictionary, the definition of landscape is: “Land´scape n. 1. A portion of land or territory which the eye can comprehend in a single view, including all the objects it contains. 2. A picture representing a scene by land or sea, actual or fancied, the chief subject being the general aspect of nature, as fields, hills, forests, water, etc. 3. The pictorial aspect of a country." It can be expressed many ways and we look forward to seeing your interpretation. PAY IT FORWARD- We will be donating 10% of all entry fees from this show to the Global Food Initiative. GFI assists hungry people in developing food security. GFI has raised over $8,000,000 for community development projects in numerous countries around the globe. PH21 Gallery presents: 'Shape' – A Curated International Photography Exhibition, November 16 – December 9, 2023

Shapes are one of the most important aspects of creative photographic compositions. Living beings and inanimate objects, including the built environment, come in many forms, and photographers often rely on the creative possibilities offered by their shapes. While in some cases the images of things only serve a depictive function, at the other end of the spectrum, abstract photography concentrates on shapes and forms for their own sake up to a point when we can no longer recognise the depicted objects themselves. Between being either insignificant or the only significant element, the shape of recognisable forms may also be the driving compositional component of an image. That is, the shape of living beings and objects may be of central importance to the composition of photographs, not only in abstract photography but also in virtually all other photographic genres. These images capture our attention and stand out for their creative compositional form. PH21 Gallery invites photographers to submit their work for a group exhibition themed Shape. We are looking for submissions from all photographers who are interested in this subject and would like to share their work with a wider international audience through the exposure of PH21 Gallery. The theme is broadly construed; we are looking for photographs in which shape is a significant compositional element, including abstract photography. Open Call for Proposals 2024 Exhibition Season at Artspace Richmond

Artspace's Exhibition Committee will review proposals for exhibitions of art in all genres for the 2024 season in our gallery located at 2833-A Hathaway Rd., Richmond, VA 23225, in the Stratford Hills Shopping Center. All proposals must be submitted through the online form. $35 non-refundable proposal fee required. Selections will be made without regard to race, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, marital status, age, or national origin. Every reasonable effort within the capacity of Artspace will be made to accommodate artists with disabilities or accessibility needs. We welcome submissions for exhibitions of art from all genres. Exhibitions will be selected based on the following criteria: + Artistic merit focused on the quality and nature of the work samples provided. + How the exhibition will contribute towards the goal of building stronger communities through contemporary arts and artists. + How the exhibition fosters opportunities for gathering with, understanding, and learning from art and artists. + If the artwork compliments or coordinates with other exhibitions during the same exhibition period. Embracing Our Differences Out Door Exhibition

Embracing Our Differences is seeking submissions for an outdoor juried art exhibit featuring 50 billboard-size images created by local, national and international artists. The display reflects the artists' interpretations of the theme "enriching lives through diversity and inclusion." The exhibit will be on display from January 21 through April 14, 2024 in two locations in Sarasota and Pinellas counties in Florida. The winning artworks combine a deep understanding of both medium and message. Awards are given for "Best-in-Show Adult," "Best-in-Show Student," and "People's Choice" categories, with the last chosen by exhibit visitors to each location. Adult winners each receive $2,000; students receive $2,000 with $1,000 to be directed to the student and $1,000 to their school’s art program if they worked under the direction of an educator.

Unlike traditional dolls, Barbie emerged as an adult figure, presenting a complete spectrum of allure and sexuality, thus embodying a symbol of beauty and desire. Barbie's world-building transcended mere play; it resembled the art of theater production and film direction, akin to the creative process behind staged photography. Barbie, in her own right, can be seen as an early physical avatar, foreshadowing the virtual avatars prevalent in today's digital realm. Even contemporary video games draw upon the imaginative foundations laid by Barbie.
