ARTIST OF THE MONTH WINNER Pat DeVane Burns hails from Forsyth, Georgia. Her artwork has been collected over much of the US, Europe and Australia. Pat
started out with multiple local awards in high school, garnering a Governor's Honors live-in program one summer at Wesleyan College, then entering Berry College on a full-tuition scholarship in art. She took time to raise a family and be active in her husband's business while continuing to learn through occasional workshops, artist peer groups and by amassing a huge art library. She returned to college art classes at 65 for several years and still audits classes whenever she can. Now
retired, the last 15 years have been spent full time on her passion with a backlog of ideas and images flowing into existence. Read more about Pat and see more of her awesome art in our Featured Artist of the Month page: https://www.theartlist.com/featured-artists/2024-pat-devane-burns
SECOND PLACE WINNER In her Bon Air, Virginia studio, Terrie Powers continues a painting practice that began in the 1970s. Her work demonstrates a deep connection to nature, where the viewer is taken in by a peaceful and organic surround, where the
spirit recognizes that everything is sacred. Terrie’s works are on large wood panels and canvases, and the techniques involve wide arm-strokes as well as spattering and dripping the paint, thin transparent layers of acrylic, and sometimes drawing with chalk or graphite. “I believe there is magic to be felt and seen, and I stimulate the viewer to experience that magic.” Her favorite subject matter includes trees, mountains, water and sky. Her works live in many private and corporate collections,
including the Multi Faith Spiritual Center at Westminster Canterbury Richmond, The Children’s Hospital of Richmond, as well as the main branch of the Richmond Library. See more of Terrie's beautiful art here: https://www.terriepowersart.com/
THIRD PLACE WINNER Gbadamosi Sheriff is a contemporary artist born and raised in Lagos, Nigeria, where he currently lives and works. From a young age, Sheriff exhibited a natural talent for drawing, but it was through the mentorship of esteemed artists Adeniyi Damilola and Kelechi Nwaneri that he truly honed
his craft. Under their guidance, he transitioned to using oil paints and acrylics, expanding his artistic repertoire and exploring new dimensions of expression. Sheriff's work delves into the complexities of psychology and social values, offering a profound analysis of the issues that surround him. His art is characterized by expressionist imagery that captures the emotional depth of human experience. Straddling the line between realism and expressionism, Sheriff has developed a unique style
that he refers to as "Contemporary Expressionism." This approach allows him to convey his thoughts and feelings with both clarity and intensity, inviting viewers to engage with the themes he explores. Through his vibrant and thought-provoking pieces, Gbadamosi Sheriff continues to make a significant impact in the contemporary art scene, reflecting the rich cultural tapestry of Lagos and the broader human experience. Learn
more about Sheriff and see his amazing art here: https://www.instagram.com/art_by_sheriff/
VIEWER'S CHOICE Jaime Sands from Phillipsburg, NJ, is a self-taught multidisciplinary artist who inherited her artistic talent from her Father and Grandmother. She primarily focuses on acrylic painting, drawing, graphic design and photography.
Currently still a resident of Phillipsburg, she is employed as a county government Purchasing Administrator and lives with her husband Chuck and their 4-year-old son, Parker. She uses art as a way to express herself and finds it to be a relaxing escape from daily routines. | DEADLINE: December 09, 2024 PH21 Gallery presents: 'Upside down ' – A Curated International Photography Exhibition, February 8 – March 4, 2025 While photographs are valued for their
depictive potential and representative content, the non-depictive, non-representational aspects of photographic works are also strongly related to their aesthetic significance. In this spirit, art photography has always aimed for the unity of form and content. Abstract photography has gone even further, celebrating abstract compositions for their own sake, without the need for appreciating or even recognising depictive content in the images. Turning a photograph upside down tends to strip it of
its representative function because the depicted scene and objects are difficult, if not impossible, to recognise when the image is turned on its side or upside down. However, the formal, compositional aspects of photographs become more pronounced in this manner, as our attention is directed away from scene and object recognition. In our Upside down exhibition, we aim to showcase photographs that are indeed turned upside down. Any photograph is eligible if the artist is willing to present it in
this unconventional way. Abstract photographs might be considered the most suitable candidates for this experimental exhibiting method, but there are many depictive works as well whose compositional qualities might also be appreciated in novel ways when turned upside down. This allows us to liberate ourselves from scrutinizing and concentrating solely on their representational content. | DEADLINE: December 15, 2024 NYC4PA MONOCHROME The first photographs to be part of the world of art were monochrome prints. The images were captured by large format cameras, developed into negatives and printed in the darkroom. The world of photography has come a long way since then with color dominating so much of what we shoot these
days, and cameras now an integral part of our very portable phones. With so many color images around us there is still something special about a monochrome print, whether it be black and white, sepia or even shades of a single color. These are the images where all the emotion, texture and beauty are expressed in gradations from light to dark. No matter if your original image was shot with tri x film, a digital SLR, or your phone, if the end product is a terrific monochrome image, it fits the

| DEADLINE: December 25, 2024 THE ADACHI CONTEMPORARY UKIYO-E AWARD 2024 The Adachi UKIYOE Award 2024 is now calling for 21st-century ukiyo-e artists. Ukiyo-e prints, loved worldwide, are the result of a collaborative effort by three artisans: the ukiyo-e artist, represented by masters like Hokusai and Hiroshige, who draws the original design; the carver, who meticulously carves the design onto woodblocks; and the printer, who transfers the
image onto washi paper. The works created by these artists have served as a “mirror of the times,” reflecting the societal and cultural contexts of their era and captivating many people. Since its inception in 2009, the Adachi UKIYOE Award has sought artists to become the next generation of ukiyo-e artists, producing designs that serve as the foundation for modern ukiyo-e. Award winners will have the opportunity to collaborate with contemporary carvers and printers to turn their designs into
woodcut prints. Would you like to become a ukiyo-e artist like Hokusai and create works in collaboration with today’s carvers and printers? Website: https://foundation.adachi-hanga.com/en/ Prospectus: https://foundation.adachi-hanga.com/en/award2024/ |
| DEADLINE: December 30, 2024 3 Square Art - New Horizons: Landscapes 25, 8th Annual Exhibition Join us on a visual journey through the ever-evolving realm of landscapes at our New Horizons: Landscapes 25, 8th Annual Exhibition. Traditionally, artists have sought inspiration in the breathtaking landscapes that
surround them, capturing the essence of nature's beauty on canvas. However, in the midst of contemporary shifts, how has this age-old practice transformed? Explore the dynamic interplay between our changing landscapes and the evolving human connection to nature. Witness the exploration of newfound connections or the poignant losses embedded in the evolving terrain. Will landscapes become mere reproductions, frozen in the frame of a photograph, or can artists infuse them with the vibrant hues,
nuanced lighting, intricate designs, and rich textures that encapsulate the profound essence of their experiences? Much like the revolutionary impact of impressionism and cubism on our perception of landscape art in the past, what fresh interpretations and innovative perspectives define today's landscape art scene? In "New Horizons," we invite artists to submit works in both expansive and intimate formats, encouraging bold strokes, novel viewpoints, meaningful dialogues, vibrant blends of color,
or monochromatic studies. The canvas is open to your creative exploration—what lies on the horizon for the future of landscape art? Juried by the 3 Square Art Gallery. $700 in cash awards.
