ARTIST OF THE MONTH WINNER Barney Levitt is a realist oil painter from Boston, Massachusetts. Â "I've been creating 'pictures' ever
since I was old enough to grip a crayon and scribble on my parents' living room walls. I was given my first oil set when I was 12 years old that set me on my destined path to becoming a professional artist. After graduating with a Fine Arts degree in drawing and painting, I never looked back. Much of my work is still life driven as it affords me total control of setups and lighting. I like working with 'timeless' objects that give a sense of nostalgia to the viewer." Â Read more about Barney and see more of his wonderful art in our Featured Artist of the Month page: https://www.theartlist.com/featured-artists/2025-barney-levitt
SECOND PLACE WINNER Caryn Coville is an artist from Greenvale, New York. Caryn comes from a family of artists: her mother is an oil painter; her brother did woodturning; her
uncle was a clothing designer and pastel artist and her grandmothers knitted and did crewel work. Caryn holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Rochester Institute of Technology. After moving to London for her husband’s employment, she took various classes and continued working in colored pencils. Her passion for travel has influenced her artwork. After moving back to New York, Caryn took classes in colored pencils with Arlene Steinberg, studied botanicals in watercolor with Rose
Pelicano and East Asian brush painting with In K Kim, Carolyn Clarke, Sungsook Setton, Sally Feng Fader, Gladys Stewart and Gan Yu. Her main concentration now is colored pencil, alcohol ink and East Asian brush painting. Learn more about Caryn and see more of her fantastic art here: https://www.caryncoville.com/
THIRD PLACE WINNER Helene Ruiz, a native of New York City, stands as an artist deeply entrenched in the world of drawing and painting. Her early creative journey was shaped by the profound influence of her father, himself an artist, which ignited her passion for the arts at a tender age. Painting is the very
essence of Helene's existence, an integral facet of her being. It affords her the unparalleled freedom to express sentiments that often elude words. Within each of her artworks lies a multitude of narratives, waiting to intertwine with the stories of those who gaze upon them. Helene eagerly anticipates the diverse interpretations and connections her art sparks, demonstrating the universal language of creativity and emotion that transcends all boundaries. Learn more about Helene and see more of her awesome art here: https://www.artmajeur.com/artgirl
VIEWER'S CHOICE Mitch Clark is an artist and photographer residing in Port Saint Lucie, Florida. Originally from Jamaica, New York, Mitch credits his love of the outdoors to being
an Eagle Scout. He attended Hoftstra where he studied engineering, fine arts and philosophy, and graduated with honors. He worked for a large toy company for 40 years and even holds a few patents related to his work, but never lost his love of art and photography. His art has been featured in galleries in New York, and he was awarded the coveted Leonard Victor Award from the Photography Federation of Long Island. | DEADLINE: July 20, 2025 NYC4PA CALL FOR ENTRY - ABANDON/ABANDONMENT What comes to mind when you hear these two words? Though they have the same
root the meanings can be quite far apart. Is your first thought about things abandoned – like that empty building in the tenement section of town that has been left to the elements with broken windows and peeling paint, or is it the person abandoned by a family who needed to move to another location. But there is also the sense of “abandon” – that free-wheeling person, dancing or jumping for joy with arms stretched out, or the child on a playground ride like a see saw with hands in the air and
sheer glee on his/her face. This call is about those images that depict either interpretation. The field is far and wide and the choice is yours. Send us your best and, as always, all 2D photography is welcome. Website: https://www.nyc4pa.com Prospectus: HTTPS://WWW.NYC4PA.COM |
| DEADLINE: July 21, 2025 PH21 Gallery presents: Portraits Beyond Faces – A Curated International Photography Exhibition, September 20 – October 14, 2025 Portraiture emerged as one of the most prominent genres of depictive media early in the history of the visual arts; tacit or explicit rules, conventions and cultural expectations have
always influenced the ways in which artists approached the genre. Photography is no exception. Numerous different and characteristic styles of portraiture emerged throughout the history of the medium. We usually assume that faces are necessary components of portraiture; we may, however, learn just as much about the character, the personality of a person by looking at images that depict other parts of their bodies, show us the objects or places associated with them. Not focusing on the face may
open up a new dimension of interpretation. Our Portraits Beyond Faces exhibition is dedicated to this challenging divergence from the more conventional approaches to the genre. PH21 Gallery invites photographers to submit their work for our group exhibition themed Portraits Beyond Faces. We welcome submissions from all photographers interested in this theme, providing them with an opportunity to share their work with a broader international audience through the exposure offered by PH21 Gallery.
The theme is broadly defined, and we are interested in all kinds of portraits that characterise persons without focusing on the depiction of their faces. Website: https://www.ph21gallery.com Prospectus: https://www.ph21gallery.com/cfe-beyond-faces-25 |
