Happy February from TheArtList!  “Art is the only way to run away without leaving home.” –
Twyla Tharp  It's February, Artists and Art Lovers! We hope that the winter storms here in the states didn't
affect too many of you too negatively. We know things can get a little dicey when severe winter weather comes along, but freshly snow-covered landscapes can offer plenty of inspiration! If you don't want to venture outside, then maybe a new drawing, painting or sculpture is in order? Photographers, I guess you're stuck braving the elements for that perfect shot! Regardless of what inspires you, go create some art (but don't freeze)! With that in mind, we have some great calls for you, as well as our Artist of the Month contest winners and honorable mentions, so let's get right to it. Thank you to those who entered for sharing your art with us! Read on to see which artists will be receiving gift certificates from our friends at Jerry's
Artarama. This month's contest is live, so submit your art today! For our contests, we kindly request that you submit a link to your artist website or social media
page (Instagram is preferred if you don't have a dedicated website) along with your entry. Otherwise we can't direct our readers to learn more about you or get in touch with you to purchase your art! With that said, as always, we also have a lot of great calls from all over the world, so be sure to check out the full list at the bottom of this newsletter. Â If you haven't done so yet, please check out the blog section on our
website. We have some great articles that we think will be of interest to artists and art lovers alike. This month's article is How Artists Used Series to Develop a Recognizable Visual Language. From Claude Monet’s haystacks to Katsushika Hokusai’s mountain, from Cindy Sherman’s constructed identities to Andy Warhol’s silkscreened icons, artists across centuries and cultures have used series to refine their thinking, sharpen their vision, and build bodies of work that feel intentional rather than accidental. A series is not repetition for convenience. It is repetition with purpose. And for centuries, it has been one of the most effective ways artists have
clarified who they are, and what they are trying to say. And don't forget about our ART MARKETING 101 series. It's designed to help both new and experienced artists get the most out of their online portfolios - from choosing the right domain name, to designing a professional-looking portfolio site, photographing your artwork like a pro, and even how to write an artist biography that's both compelling and optimized for SEO. We hope these will be great resources for our readers. We have a lot of other fun articles we hope you will enjoy as well!  If you are a gallery or organization that would like to take advantage of our current discounts to promote your upcoming art contest or event, visit https://www.theartlist.com/submit. As
always, we thank you all -- artists and organizations -- for supporting TheArtList.  --------------------------------  - Please note that we are only able to showcase a small number of calls in the monthly newsletter, so be sure to visit our website www.theartlist.com for more.  Now go create some art!  - TheArtList.com Editors Â
ARTIST OF THE MONTH WINNER Lara Kovács is an artist from Kortrijk, West Flanders, Belgium. "I originally worked as a professional nail artist, where
decoration and detailed painting were my main strengths. In this field, I became a multiple-time Hungarian Champion and also achieved a Bronze Medal at the World Championships. These years laid the foundation for my love of painting and sparked the desire to explore painting not only on small surfaces, but on larger canvases as well. Today, painting is a central part of my everyday life, and my goal is to continue building this path in an official, long-term way and to share my work with a wider
audience." Read more about Lara and see more of her awesome art in our Featured Artist of the Month page: https://www.theartlist.com/featured-artists/2026-lara-kovacs-keiel

Easthampton, The Metropolitan Museum/Queens Museum and lectured at the Cloisters. He also worked closely with Victor D’Amico on the “Barge” for the Museum of Modern Art. "I started making pottery when taking my Master’s degree in painting at Pratt Institute. Little did I know that pottery would turn out to be my passion. My work was a feature story on the Fine Living Channel’s program Back to Basics. But since it’s hard to make a living as an artist, I became an Executive Creative
Director/Creative Director/Art Director and film director with 30+ years of experience in advertising." See more of Robert's amazing pottery here: https://www.perpetuitypottery.com/

2026 NYC4PA CALL FOR ENTRIES - WATER Water surrounds us as rivers, lakes, oceans, seas. It is also so very central to much of our lives – the rain that makes our flowers grow, the ice cubes that cool our drinks, and on and on. And it is beautiful to photograph. This call is about how you, the photographer, capture water in all its forms. Is it the crest of water hitting a seaside rock? Is it water heated to become steam or frozen like ice? There are the glistening
droplets of water from a puppy shaking itself off, tears expressing heartfelt emotion, reflections in a city pond as well as active steam from a geyser. Maybe you used a slow shutter to create the soft image of flowing water in a stream or ventured out on a winter day to watch patterns emerge in the city ice rink. Raindrops, dew drops .... ice floes, waterfalls, rapids and serene lakes. The list goes on. Black and white, color, abstract - all 2D mediums are welcome. | DEADLINE: February 09, 2026 PH21 Gallery Barcelona presents: "The natural and the artificial" – A Curated International Photography Exhibition, April 4–21, 2026 The natural and the artificial are diametrically opposed concepts that evoke contrasting ideas such as organic versus geometric, spontaneous versus designed, instinctive
versus deliberate, wild versus tamed, and more. However, there exists a continuum between these opposing forces, manifesting in the form of tamed nature like gardens or abandoned spaces being reclaimed by nature, for instance. The interplay, cross-border interactions, struggles, and coexistences of the two at these junctures provide unique experiences to explore, especially in the visual realm. Throughout the history of the medium, photographers have been drawn to the creative possibilities of
capturing, interpreting, and presenting the natural, the artificial, and their many intertwined forms. Images of these subjects are among the most captivating ways of elucidating our intricate and often conflicting relationship with our environment. By exploring and depicting the natural and the artificial in all their varied forms, photographers can offer us insight into the complexities of the world we inhabit. PH21 Gallery invites photographers to submit their work for a group exhibition
themed The natural and the artificial. We are looking for submissions from all photographers who are interested in this subject and would like to share their work with a wider international audience through the exposure of PH21 Gallery. The theme is broadly construed, without generic or stylistic constraints. Website: https://www.ph21gallery.com Prospectus: https://www.ph21gallery.com/cfe-natural-artificial-26 |

| DEADLINE: February 16, 2026 3 Square Art - New Horizons: Landscapes 26, 9th Annual Exhibition Join us on a visual journey through the ever-evolving realm of landscapes at our New Horizons: Landscapes 26, 9th Annual Exhibition. Traditionally, artists have sought inspiration in the breathtaking landscapes that surround them, capturing
the essence of nature's beauty on canvas. However, in the midst of contemporary shifts, how has this age-old practice transformed? Explore the dynamic interplay between our changing landscapes and the evolving human connection to nature. Witness the exploration of newfound connections or the poignant losses embedded in the evolving terrain. Will landscapes become mere reproductions, frozen in the frame of a photograph, or can artists infuse them with the vibrant hues, nuanced lighting, intricate
designs, and rich textures that encapsulate the profound essence of their experiences? Much like the revolutionary impact of impressionism and cubism on our perception of landscape art in the past, what fresh interpretations and innovative perspectives define today's landscape art scene? In "New Horizons," we invite artists to submit works in both expansive and intimate formats, encouraging bold strokes, novel viewpoints, meaningful dialogues, vibrant blends of color, or monochromatic studies.
The canvas is open to your creative exploration—what lies on the horizon for the future of landscape art? Juried by the 3 Square Art Gallery. $1000 in cash awards. Website: https://www.3squareart.com Prospectus: https://www.3squareart.com/list-of-calls-for-entry/new-horizons-landscapes-2026 |
| DEADLINE: February 23, 2026 PH21 Gallery Barcelona presents: "Significant Colour" – A Curated International Photography
Exhibition, April 25 – May 12, 2026 There are two kinds of photographs with respect to the significance of their use of colours. On the one hand, ever since colour film technology became widely available, colour has become the default in most photographic practices. That is, some photographs are in colour not because their colours bear some special significance (compared, for instance, to their possible black and white counterparts) but simply because the available film or digital
technology has long made colour the common method of capturing photographic images. We may think of these photographs as colour by default. On the other hand, colours are often central to the meaning of photographs for their emphatic, symbolic, psychological, social, compositional, etc. significance. These photographs would not work in black and white the same way, or they would not work at all. That they are in colour is not merely a technological given; rather, it is an integral, formative,
and significant aspect of their photographic meaning. We may think of these photographs as colour by significance. PH21 Gallery invites photographers to submit their work for a group exhibition themed Significant Colour. We are looking for submissions from all photographers who are interested in the significance of any colour in photography and would like to share their work with a wider international audience through the exposure of PH21 Gallery. stylistic constraints. Website: https://www.ph21gallery.com Prospectus: https://www.ph21gallery.com/cfe-colour-26 |
