A juried international photography exhibition. June 2–28, 2016. Intimacy is an elusive concept. While it is most commonly understood in terms of what can be described as a close and affectionate relationship or interaction between two people, the notion of intimacy goes beyond the interpersonal. People may form intimate relationships with or attachment to objects, places or other non-human beings as well. Past human presence or experience may also transform an ordinary object or a place into something special and intimate; we can recognise traces of intimacy even in the absence of human beings. A photographer's understanding of what intimacy is can take on different meanings and can be expressed in a number of different ways. For the purposes of this call, both the what and the how are of equal importance and interest. PH21 Gallery invites photographers to submit their work for a group exhibition themed Intimacy. We are looking for submissions from all photographers who are interested in this subject and would like to share their work with a wider international audience through the exposure of PH21 Gallery. We welcome submissions from all photographic genres, and we are interested in all possible creative photographic interpretations of the theme.

The Biggs Museum is pleased to announceBiggs Shot 2016, the fourth juried photography competition featuring the work of professional and emerging photographers, working and/or living in the Mid-Atlantic region (open to artists from Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, Washington DC, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey). This year's juror is the Biggs Museum's newly appointed Executive Director, Chares A. Guerin. Biggs Shot will be his official introduction to the exceptional talent of Mid- Atlantic photographers and Charles brings his own photo credibility to the competition. In addition to arranging or curating numerous exhibitions of world-class modern and contemporary photographers, including Ansel Adams and Edward Weston, Charles Guerin was the Acting Director of the Center for Creative Photography in Tucson, AZ in 2002. He also arranged the gift of the George Stephanopoulos Family Collection of photography to his previous employer, The Hyde Collection in Glenn Falls, New York. Winning images, selected from digital submissions, will be featured in a 2016 museum exhibition and the best in show will win a $1,500 purchase prize. $35 to submit 3 images (3 additional works can be submitted for $5 each)

The 2016 Williams Prize in Drawing for Emerging Artists provides artists with the opportunity to compete for one of the eleven monetary awards and to be selected by the juror for a spot in the Williams Prize in Drawing Exhibition, to be held June 28-July 24, 2016 at the Silpe Gallery at the Hartford Art School in West Hartford, CT. The Awards: First Prize: $1000, Juror's Choice Awards: 10 awards, $200 each. Our 2016 juror: Douglas Martenson. Since 2010 Douglas Martenson has served as Chair of the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (PAFA) Faculty Committee. He is also a Lecturer in Figure Drawing at the University of Pennsylvania. Entrants may submit additional drawings, up to 10 (including detail images) for an additional $5 per image. All submissions for The Williams Prize will be handled through CaFE. PH21 Gallery invites photographers to submit their work for a solo exhibition at PH21 Gallery. Please submit a coherent portfolio suitable for a solo exhibition, an artist statement and a short bio. The portfolio should consist of at least 15 and at most 35 images. The submission may include one or two series, provided that the two series are suitable for a joint presentation in a single exhibition. There are no generic, stylistic or thematic constraints; photographers working in all photographic areas and styles are welcome to submit their work.One winner and up to three honourable mentions will be selected and announced on our website and social media pages. The winner of this competition receives an opportunity for a solo exhibition at PH21 Gallery's Ráday St. location from June 30 to July 26, 2016. PH21 Gallery will cover all printing and installation costs. The CDS/Honickman First Book Prize in Photography is given to a North American photographer pursuing work of creative or social importance. While there are other sources for grants and fellowships in photography, the chance to have the editorial, design, production, and marketing support to realize a body of work in print is rare: The prize's focus is on creating an opportunity for photographers who are engaged in the creation of a continued, active, and vital body of work to publish a first book. Winners of the CDS/Honickman First Book Prize in Photography receive a grant of $3,000, publication of a book of photography, and inclusion in a website devoted to presenting the work of the prizewinners. The winner also receives a solo exhibit; the photographs are then placed in the Archive of Documentary Arts in Duke University's Rubenstein Library.
