Artist of The Month Winner
Congratulations to TheArtList.com's May Artist of the Month Grand Prize Winner, Eunika Rogers. Eunika’s Artist Statement reads “My work is rooted in nature and the female body. I search for ways to explore how each changes with time, often focusing on a spiritual and physical connection with the land. I use nature as my inspiration for the process and the medium I use in my art work – I paint with clay. Earth creates images as time constantly passes. I record these images in
my photographs, capturing a moment in time, and then, using clay and other organic matter, I fossilize these images in my paintings. In the Earth takes all living things, I resurrect them in my paintings, using clay and pigments from the Earth, in their raw form. It is a primitive process, and a primitive medium, one that was used by a primitive man in cave paintings of Altimira or Lascaux. To paint with clay is to stain the surface that will never fade overtime. Time changes things but my
paintings stay eternal.“

Second Place Winner
Sabrina talks about her creative process: "They (her images) begin with an altered layer of National Geographic pages. I use brillo pads to remove the glossy surface and create a latticework of scratches in the paper for texture and use a solvent made from citrus oil to melt and rework the ink. I then adhere the pages to a wooden panel, and then I have a lovely canvas saturated in hues and depth. Upon this base, I begin
adding layers of drawings made with charcoal and ink, depending on the patterns or figures I am adding. Next I use water-based paint (acrylic) for of the levels of transparency and opacity I can achieve.
My goal is to find a balance between the original color and texture from the pages and the layers of medium I add to them."
Viewer's Choice Award Winner
Charlotte Williams is May's Viewer's Choice Award winner. Charlotte says "I can not remember a time when animals and art did not occupy most of my daily thoughts, and still, everyday, I marvel and am inspired by natures stunning creations. But it was my time living and working on a game farm in South Africa where my love turned into passion: A passion to not only capture
on canvas the living, breathing, beauty of our wildlife, but also to protect it. I encourage everyone to go and see Africa and fall in love with it, as I did. A piece of my heart remains there and I hope that one day my art will take me home."

 | DEADLINE MAY 02, 2016 PH21 Gallery: Call for Entries - Intimacy Calls for Submissions - Photography Photo Gallery A juried international photography exhibition. June 2–28, 2016. Intimacy is an elusive concept. While it is most commonly understood in terms of what can be described as a close and affectionate relationship or interaction between two people, the notion of intimacy goes beyond the interpersonal. People may
form intimate relationships with or attachment to objects, places or other non-human beings as well. Past human presence or experience may also transform an ordinary object or a place into something special and intimate; we can recognise traces of intimacy even in the absence of human beings. A photographer's understanding of what intimacy is can take on different meanings and can be expressed in a number of different ways. For the purposes of this call, both the what and the how are of equal
importance and interest. PH21 Gallery invites photographers to submit their work for a group exhibition themed Intimacy. We are looking for submissions from all photographers who are interested in this subject and would like to share their work with a wider international audience through the exposure of PH21 Gallery. We welcome submissions from all photographic genres, and we are interested in all possible creative photographic interpretations of the theme. beautifully dilapidated buildings of Colonels Row. The lines between artwork and its environment are blurred across the lawns and landmark houses of bucolic Governors Island. Founded by 4heads, a group of New York artists, GIAF champions a new art fair model that puts the artists first. Once selected by the 4heads jury, your exhibition space is free. The entire massive event is free to the general public. And as an emerging or established artist, you are free to present your work, your way, at
this acclaimed independent art fair in New York City. Because 4heads works hard to keep artists' costs to a bare minimum, gallery scouts, journalists and collectors know that this is where to find the freshest talent, and they come back every year to see what's been discovered. Many past GIAF artists have launched their art careers here. We hope you can too. 4heads is also seeking outdoor artists working in all disciplines.
