9th Annual Governors Island Art Fair
Call for Entry - Deadline: June 1, 2016
Exhibit your art, your way, for free in New York's Largest Independent Exhibition - 9th Annual Governors Island Art Fair. At GIAF, each artist is free to curate a full room of their own work in the historic buildings of this picturesque, almost surreal, former military base in the middle of New York Harbor.
Every weekend in September since 2008, 4heads has brought you GIAF, just minutes from Manhattan and Brooklyn via a scenic ferry ride. GIAF grants single exhibition rooms to over 100 individual artists from around the globe. Every year, over 50,000 viewers visit this extensive exhibit housed in the landmark structures of New York's favorite island get-away.
GIAF is organized, produced, promoted and installed entirely by working artists and volunteers. Participating exhibitors in GIAF are responsible for transporting, installing and de-installing their own work. It is highly suggested (but not required) that each artist or their representative be present during the run of the event as much as possible, to communicate with viewers and collectors, and to take advantage of the invaluable contacts and relationships that inevitably form over the
course of the month. If you are applying from overseas or across the country, we understand you may not be free every weekend but we mention this because we do find that artists who are present as much as possible get the most out of the experience and meet more collectors, gallerists and journalists than those who do not.
GIAF is housed in and around the grand landmark homes of former military officers on Governors Island and is run with a hearty DIY spirit and a strong sense of community. We expect our exhibitors to be resourceful, professional, self-sufficient, and well-versed in installing their own work - or finding someone who is. We are a stable, grass-roots, artist-run non-profit.
Eligibility
All artists 18 and over may enter. If you have shown in BOTH: GIAF 2014 and 2015 , you are not eligible for GIAF 2016 or 2017. Please apply again for the 2018 fair.

You may submit 4 to 5 total images, videos, and/or mp3s Images of artworks submitted during this application process must be representative of what you are planning to exhibit. If you plan to create a site specific exhibition, please provide a clear description of the proposed work.
