September's Contest Winners
Artist of The Month Winner

Congratulations to TheArtList.com's October Artist of the Month Grand Prize Winner, Donna McCullough. “Fashion is well known as a reliable reflection of cultural trends and historical events. On a personal level, it has become my creative vehicle for exploring mysteries of life.

My inspiration arose from contemplating the dichotomy between the perception of women as fragile, delicate creatures, and the reality that most women are defined by resiliency and steely resolve. I employ a juxtaposition of extremes such as lightness and gravity, suppleness and intransigence, to convey feminine sensibilities.

Crafted of steel and embellished with flourishes of wire mesh, screening, cut-outs and bits of found objects, the dresses are at once both elegant and imposing. I like the duplicitous nature of steel which can be manipulated to appear feminine and soft while actually maintaining its strength and rigidity—an expression in contrasts and complements.”

Donna wins a $75 gift certificate to Jerry's Artarama. Read more about Donna: http://www.theartlist.com/aom_10_16.html

Second Place Winner

Award winning California artist Shannon Celia uses oil paint, palette knives, brushes & the inspiring California seaside to create her vibrant, contemporary coastal vignettes and Americana inspired pieces that burst with color, texture and light. "In awe of nature, I am most inspired outside and particularly fond of water, boats, flora and fauna. I can experience feelings and impressions in terms of color and I'm able express this in my work."

As member of the Westlake Village Art Guild, and former member of the Thousand Oaks Art Association, Studio Channel Islands Art Center & the Buenaventura Art Association, she enjoys exhibiting work and painting with pals. Shannon wins a $50 gift certificate to Jerry's Artarama.

Viewer's Choice Winner

Casey Keen is the Viewer's Choice Winner with 325 votes. Casey says: KeenEyeCreations is an entourage of my imagination. I am a self-taught, "folk", artist, born and raised in South Florida. My work is inspired by nature, life, death, religion, and human existence, to say the least. Although I have painted, drawn, and had the inkling to constantly create things all of my life, I have recently started to be "okay" with displaying my work. It has often served as a form of therapy for me through life, and I was not entirely ready to show these parts of myself with anyone. This is the beginning of a journey for me, and I am thrilled that we are crossing paths. Thank you so much for your interest. I hope you find something you like.

For our October Artist of the Month Contest, TheArtList.com is looking for a talented artist or photographer to showcase as our November 2016 Featured Artist. Awards for Grand Prize, 2nd Place, and Viewer's Choice (audience vote) provided by Jerry's Artarama.
