Artist of the Month Contest Winners
Artist of The Month Winner

Congratulations to TheArtList.com's August Artist of the Month Grand Prize Winner, Anne Scheer.

Anne says: "My studio is within one hundred yards of the Atlantic ocean. Walking the Maine shore, it is difficult not to see close up the complexity and turbulence in the intertidal zone, the area between the low and high tide marks. Requiring flexibility, adaptation and luck, lifeforms here, deal with sweeping wave action, and desiccating low tides in the space of hours.   Maine’s relatively larger intertidal zone is a microcosm, a metaphor for the earth’s startling climatic change happening in our lifetime."

Anne wins a $75 gift certificate to Jerry's Artarama. Read more: http://www.theartlist.com/aom_11_16.html

Second Place Winner

Congratulations to our second place winner, Deborah Angilletta.

Deborah says: "I paint landscapes. I record the natural world. I try to capture its’ poetry in paint. I struggle to make a flat two dimensional work remind me of how the sunlight flowed beautifully like a river across the fields or how the sound of the wind in the trees made me feel both lonely and safe at the same time. I think it’s the impossibility of it all that keeps me painting. I love the battle that begins each time I pick up a brush and begin anew the challenge to make this painting the one that works, that really reveals how I feel. I persevere."

She wins a $50 gift certificate from Jerry's Artarama. View her website: https://deborahangilletta.com/

Viewer's Choice Award Winner

Congratulations to our Viewer's Choice Winner for November, Allyson Marie.

Allyson, an award winning photographer/artist, exhibits her work nationally and internationally and is frequently published. She shoots with a DSLR and an iPhone and from there creates imagery that is both surreal and real. Allyson wins a $25 gift certificate from Jerry's Artarama.

Call for Entries: Still Life

Online Event - Contests, Juried Art Shows - Acrylic, Ceramics, Digital Media, Fiber, Drawing/Illustration, Mixed media, Sculpture, Oil, Pastel, Photography, Watercolor Online Gallery

Art-Competition.net is proud to announce the international art call "STILL LIFE." Twenty artists will be selected for a group exhibit entitled "STILL LIFE" at Gallery25N's online. The exhibit and all selected artists will be extensively marketed. Participants must be a minimum of 18 years of age. All still art mediums are welcome. Theme: "Still Life" – For this group exhibition the curators will be looking for still life artworks that convey a captured moment in time. The still life works can be traditional or contemporary in nature, with the content exhibiting everyday objects which are natural (e.g., food, flowers, game) or which are manufactured (e.g., bottles, glasses, pottery). The subjects of the art can range from a single object to a complex arrangement of objects expressed from representational to abstract. The still life art genre may appear simplistic; however, it frequently reveals a subtle insight into various cultures that are uniquely different from our own. Still life works reflect a deeply personal view into the artist's daily life. Selections for this exhibit will be based on originality, quality of execution, and the communication of the subject. Eligibility: This competition is open to all artists and photographers 18 years of age or older. Entries must be created in a still medium: painting, drawing, photography, sculpture, digital, prints, fiber art, collage, etc.

Still Life: The Ordinary Made Extraordinary

Contests, Juried Art Shows - Photography Photo Gallery

Still life is a genre that allows the photographer time — to reflect, to organize, to compose, to light the subject as s/he sees fit. Still life allows the photographer to elevate the mundane, or, as Edward Weston put it, "… to photograph a rock, have it look like a rock, but be more than a rock." For Still Life: The Ordinary Made Extraordinary, we encourage fresh eyes brought to still life in all its forms, traditional to surreal. All capture methods and processes are welcome. We are honored indeed that Kate Breakey will be the juror for The Ordinary Made Extraordinary. She will select 35 images for exhibition in our Middlebury, Vermont gallery and another 40 for our Online Gallery. All 75 images will be reproduced in the exhibition catalog. Exhibition opens January 2, 2017.

PH21 Gallery: Call for Entries - Feminine / Masculine

Calls for Submissions - Photography Photo Gallery

Portrayals of femininity and masculinity are, without doubt, central to a number of art forms, photography not being an exception. The past few decades have given rise to – often heated – discussions and criticisms of past, recent, and current photographic practices for their lack of reflection on the assumptions, stereotypes, and prejudices surrounding photographic approaches to femininity and masculinity. Fine art and commercial works alike have been critiqued for the potential consequences of their approach and presentation. Historically femininity and masculinity have been conceived, among others, as oppositions, as complements of each other, or as positions on a continuum. There are hardly any ways of portraying femininity and masculinity that would or could not be considered trivial, conservative, pretentious, demeaning, distasteful, clichéd or even offensive by some. It often seems that everything has been both said and photographed about this subject, and yet, it is not possible to ignore the persistence of the theme in our visual culture. What is it that we can still value and possibly revive from the rich history of photography; are there any novel ways left to approach this subject with a fresh critical eye? PH21 Gallery invites photographers to submit their work for a group exhibition themed Feminine / Masculine. We are looking for submissions from all photographers who would like to share their work with a wider international audience through the exposure of PH21 Gallery. The theme is broadly construed; we are interested in all possible creative photographic interpretations of the theme.

Jerry's Artarama started out to prove that artists are passionate about what they create and that art should be a part of everyone's life. This past year we launched an exciting campaign to energize artists to share a very special Facebook post centered around the concept, "Create Art, Change Everything". We asked everyone to share this post, comment on it, and challenge artist friends and those connected to the arts to help us get this shared in all 50 states. Help continue to spread the positive message that Art Changes Everything and please post your comment along with the state you are from. You may even get a $10 eGift Card from us! $2000 in eGift Cards to be given away! Keep the "Art Changes Everything" message going and please post your positive comment along with the state you are from. We will be giving away 200 × $10 eGift Cards throughout the year to help you Create More Art and Change Everything. (We will randomly pick from the comments on the official Facebook post, so please post there. *See web site for details and how to participate.) All of us here at Jerry's truly believe that everyone has the ability to and should create art. We know that art can and does change the world for the better.
