Artist of the Month Contest Winners |
Artist of The Month Winner
Congratulations to TheArtList.com's Artist of the Month, Helen Shulman.
Helen says "After satisfying careers as a math teacher and then as a social worker and psychotherapist, I came fully to my art. Sometimes I wonder what would have happened if I'd become an artist from the start, but I think I got here as fast as I
could. When I start I know where I'm headed. When I stop I know I've gotten somewhere. In between I'm lost- found, floundering,-focused, energized-enervated. I often think everyone else goes on a straight, deliberate, well informed path, but it probably isn't true."

Second Place Winner
Congratulations to Heidi Spring, our second place winner. Heidi wins a $50 gift certificate to Jerry's Artarama. A
self-confessed color addict (and there is no cure) Heidi creates paintings that are an exploration of shape, texture, layers, and (of course) color. She takes ephemera that come into her life and imbeds them into the work. Layers of color play peak-a-boo with these collaged scraps of the inconsequential. Heidi currently resides in the Hollywood Hills, surrounded by her paintings, vibrant bougainvillea bushes and the occasional coyote. Visit Heidi's website at
http://www.heidispringart.com/.Viewer's Choice Award Winner
Our Viewer's Choice Winner is Ben J. Curtis with 428 votes! Ben is a fine artist and illustrator who says he is Portland born and raised before it was hip and expensive.
Ben wins a $25 gift certificate to Jerry's Artarama. You may see more of his work here:

Digital Media, Fiber, Graphic Design, Drawing/Illustration, Mixed media, Oil, Pastel, Photography, Watercolor Art Gallery Bauhaus Prairie Art Gallery - Monthly Exhibition. Abstraction: Theoretical, Conceptual, and Intellectual. Exhibit to be held: February 16 - March 15, 2017. Art takes many forms, but none more challenging than abstract art. Reducing a representational subject to its simplest form results in abstract art. The artist may choose to focus on the elements of art such as
color, line, shape, form, texture and space to inspire new works of art. Or, the artist can choose to createfreely by manipulating materials until the artwork becomes an extension of the intellect. Abstract Art also challenges the viewer's perceptions of the visual world, suspending reality and exploring what is presented before the eyes. Online Event

| | DEADLINE FEBRUARY 12, 2017 Abstracts: The Alternative
Eye - Photography Exhibition Contests, Juried Art Shows - Photography Photo Gallery Photography at first blush has often been thought of as a literal or pictorial art, and the withering truth of the camera lens has often held the power to open hearts and change minds. But beyond realism and narrative, documentary and expose lies another universe of possibilities… a universe where the formal rules of focus, composition and exposure don't necessarily apply anymore. It is a world of
"anything goes", where the elements of light, shadow, texture, color and line combine to form images of emotional power or visual beauty, stark contrasts or subtle shades of tonality -- the world of ABSTRACTS. It is a world without boundaries, real or imagined… as unlimited as the photographer's imagination. This month, let your imagination run wild as 1650 Gallery explores the world of Abstract Photography! Open to all photographic methods and techniques, digital or analog, subject matter is
unlimited; real or imagined -- recognizable or not! | | DEADLINE FEBRUARY 27, 2017 PH21 Gallery - Call for Entries: scapes Calls for Submissions - Photography Photo Gallery A juried international photography exhibition, April 6 – May 1, 2017. There are all sorts of natural and artificial scenes that capture the attention of photographers, compel and inspire them to pause, observe and create an image for
the sake of the scene and convey a personal interpretation of what they can see. These types of photographs go by a variety of names; they are called landscapes, cityscapes, streetscapes, seascapes, waterscapes, cloudscapes, or even desertscapes, treescapes, bodyscapes, and the like. Among these photographs the most successful ones go well beyond the mere recording of the visual qualities of a place as they bear the marks of the interpretive insights of the photographer. They make us contemplate
a scene as meaningful and significant. For it is never challenging to merely re-present; it takes a novel conception of the scene to engage us, viewers, through the keen eyes and the creative mind of the photographer. PH21 Gallery invites photographers to submit their work for a group exhibition themed –scapes. We are looking for submissions from all photographers who are interested in this subject and would like to share their work with a wider international audience through the exposure of
PH21 Gallery. The theme is broadly construed, as the photographic portrayal of scenes of the natural and built environment is independent of generic or stylistic constraints. Indeed, we are interested in all possible creative photographic interpretations of the theme. Drawing/Illustration, Mixed media, Sculpture, Oil, Pastel, Photography, Watercolor Art Organization We are excited to announce our eighth annual national juried art show, Wide Open 8, opening May 13, 2017. Our juror is another of NY's art elite, the Museum of Modern Art's Cara Manes, Curatorial Assistant in the Department of Painting and Sculpture. $3000 in cash prizes will be awarded including $1000 Best in Show Gold. The exhibit runs May 13 - June 18. Ours is a truly unique gallery – a
massive Civil War-era warehouse on the Red Hook waterfront in Brooklyn, NY. Its enormous space affords us the opportunity to exhibit really huge work, and we welcome it. We will be using 8,000 square feet for this show, and look forward to exhibiting artist's work from all around the country, work in all sizes, and subjects, and media, (it's completely wide open). The broad theme of "Wide Open 8" encompasses all the possibilities of knowledge and freedom and love - wide open spaces…arms wide
open…eyes wide open - but as with all things, there is the inevitable opposite - wide open to attack…corruption…failure. What kind of fantasy is this? What does it really indicate? This juried show looks to explore the idea of "wide open" in all the hidden niches of our collective psyche. This call for submissions is open to all residents of the U.S. and its Territories 18 years of age or older. This is a juried exhibition for artists working in all traditional and non-traditional 2-D and 3-D
media, including film/video when part of an installation. All artwork must be original in concept, design and execution. All work should be non-utilitarian in nature. This is a fine art exhibition.
