Artist of the Month Contest Winners
Artist of The Month Winner

Congratulations to TheArtList.com's Artist of the Month, Judith Kuegler.

Though born in Germany to German parents, Judith Kuegler grew up among tribal communities in Nepal and Papua New Guinea. Her interest in creating art began at a very early age and is profoundly influenced by her multicultural upbringing. After attending Art College in Germany she moved to the US to continue her studies. Judith works as an artist and art teacher with special interest in global women’s issues, multiculturalism and anthropology.

Judith wins $75 gift certificate to Jerry's Artarama. Read more: http://www.theartlist.com/aom_03_17.html

Second Place Winner

Congratulations to Jennifer Barlow, our second place winner. She wins a $50 gift certificate to Jerry's Artarama.  The tag line on Jennifer's website reads "Painting Life's Most Delicious Moments," and indeed, her paintings look like you could reach in and grab something tasty. Jennifer found her love for painting at 7 years old. Through her youth, at Skidmore College, and throughout her career in the corporate world, Jennifer continued to pursue her passion for painting. Since 2008, with the birth her daughter, Jennifer has focused her aspirations on her artistic skills and career. Visit Jennifer's website: http://jkbart.com/

Viewer's Choice Award Winner

Our Viewer's Choice Winner for February is Rachael K. Rachael grew up with a love for dancing, ice skating, performing in school and camp plays, and doing anything that involved art.  In 2012, Rachael was diagnosed with Niemann-Pick Type C, a rare, genetic, degenerative, fatal illness, for which there is no cure. She now uses a wheelchair and needs assistance with many activities of daily living. One of the bright spots in Rachael's life is coming to the WAE Center (wellness, arts, and enrichment) in West Orange, NJ. Her artwork gives Rachael an opportunity to express herself and to feel empowered about her choices. Rachael’s paintings and drawings have a fluidity and gentleness to them; she is often inspired by rainbows and water, spending substantial time on the creation of each piece. Rachael finds immense joy in making her artwork, as well as great pride when someone appreciates her creations.

Rachael wins a $25 gift certificate to Jerry's Artarama. You may see more of her work here:

DEADLINE MARCH 05, 2017 - $3000 in Awards

Call to Artists: WIDE OPEN 8

Calls for Submissions - Acrylic, Digital Media, Glass, Mosaic, Drawing/Illustration, Mixed media, Sculpture, Oil, Pastel, Photography, Watercolor Art Organization

We are excited to announce our eighth annual national juried art show, Wide Open 8, opening May 13, 2017. Our juror is another of NY’s art elite, the Museum of Modern Art’s Cara Manes, Curatorial Assistant in the Department of Painting and Sculpture. $3000 in cash prizes will be awarded including $1000 Best in Show Gold. The exhibit runs May 13 - June 18. Ours is a truly unique gallery – a massive Civil War-era warehouse on the Red Hook waterfront in Brooklyn, NY. Its enormous space affords us the opportunity to exhibit really huge work, and we welcome it. We will be using 8,000 square feet for this show, and look forward to exhibiting artist’s work from all around the country, work in all sizes, and subjects, and media, (it’s completely wide open). The broad theme of “Wide Open 8” encompasses all the possibilities of knowledge and freedom and love - wide open spaces…arms wide open…eyes wide open - but as with all things, there is the inevitable opposite - wide open to attack…corruption…failure. What kind of fantasy is this? What does it really indicate? This juried show looks to explore the idea of “wide open” in all the hidden niches of our collective psyche. This call for submissions is open to all residents of the U.S. and its Territories 18 years of age or older. This is a juried exhibition for artists working in all traditional and non-traditional 2-D and 3-D media, including film/video when part of an installation. All artwork must be original in concept, design and execution. All work should be non-utilitarian in nature. This is a fine art exhibition. Early Bird discount through February 19, 2017.

Windows & Doors Photo Exhibition

Calls for Submissions - Photography Photo Gallery

If life is a journey, what part do windows and doors play? Doors can welcome us in or shut us out, or sometimes lock us in. Doors can offer us escape; adventure, the romance of new beginnings -- heading for adventure and leaving the past behind with the finality of that final slam possibilities. Doors can represent uncertainty and mystery of what's beyond the door. Why does the window play such an important part in our collective psyche? More than the door, the window offers up hope; a portal to our imagination and through that to an imagined world beyond what we see... windows offer us a chance at a world beyond: escape, elopements, serenades and secret loves. In a nutshell we think WINDOWS & DOORS offer us possibilities, and we want to see your take on this broad and inviting theme! Push the boundaries, or go classic and literal. We want it all and most of all we encourage you to do great work – climb out that window, run out that door or look at that view from the corner office. This time at 1650 there's a lot to see through your WINDOWS & DOORS photography! Approximately fifty works will be chosen from submitted photos to be included in the Windows & Doors group photography exhibition at 1650 Gallery in Los Angeles.

Submit Your Photography: Photo Independent Art Fair 2017

Calls for Submissions - Photography, Video/Film Other

Are you interested in building your photographic career by getting in front of the right audience? In the past, galleries played an important role in representing and nurturing artists. However, that system can no longer support the amount of good artists who seek representation today, or who are working in unconventional media and forms. Through Photo Independent, artists can directly present and discuss their work with curators, gallery directors, dealers, collectors, editors, publishers, writers, educators, and cultural organizations, those who seek to find, invest in, promote and support the finest established, emerging and undiscovered artistic talent available today. Applications are now being accepted for Photo Independent 2017. The ground-breaking art fair returns for it’s 4th year, April 21-23, 2017, at The Reef in downtown Los Angeles, California. Photo Independent is a fair where individual photographers present their work to thousands of visitors in one weekend. This year Paul Martineau, Associate Curator at The Getty Museum, will be reviewing every photographer and their booth at this year’s Photo Independent, and will be awarding the “Best of Show”. What previous exhibitors have to say: 1. "My booth at Photo Independent got me a two book deal with Schiffer Publishing. AMERICAN CARNIVAL is coming out later this year followed by THE GREAT NORTHWEST… and if those go well, we are planning a series of six more regional photo books. This is a kind of dream I 've always had. Photo Independent made it for real." - David Skernick, USA... 2. "I love Photo Independent! I believe artists should develop their own lists

The earth’s landscapes are places of thought, meditation, reflection, tranquility, and at times sorrow. The landscape artists’ creations are defined and weighted only by the depth at which their presentations enrich our heart and conscience. PH21 Gallery: Call for Entries: MONO

Calls for Submissions - Photography Photo Gallery

A juried international photography exhibition. May 11 – June 6, 2017. Monochrome photography is usually associated with black and white images. However, in the history of photography other hues, such as sepia and cyan were also used, and today there are countless examples of monochromatic images whose photographic qualities are based on the tonal range of various other colours. While monochromacity used to be a technological limitation for a long time, today it is more of an artistic choice. Photographers may opt for working with the shades of just one colour for compositional reasons or for reasons related to the expressive content of their images, and therefore their decision is to be interpreted. Our appreciation of contemporary monochromatic images is rooted in the knowledge that the lack of colour range is significant and meaningful, not merely a technological limitation. PH21 Gallery invites photographers to submit their work for a group exhibition themed Mono. We are looking for submissions from all photographers who create black and white or other monochromatic images and would like to share their work with a wider international audience through the exposure of PH21 Gallery. We welcome submissions from all photographic genres, including abstract compositions. We are interested in all possible creative photographic interpretations of the theme.
