Artist of the Month Contest Winners |
Artist of The Month Winner Congratulations to TheArtList.com's Artist of the Month, Michael Polomik. Michael
says "As early as I can remember I was making images like most children. The connections I formed with people through them viewing my art was a big factor that kept me coming back to it. My father also encouraged my painting. He always did it as a hobby himself so he’d give me paint by numbers to do alongside him. More importantly he gave me scrap paper that had engineering diagrams on the other side, which I would draw into, and I often attribute as influencing the
development of my style." Michael wins $75 gift certificate to Jerry's Artarama. Read more: https://www.theartlist.com/aom_04_17.html

Second Place Winner Congratulations to Daniel Angeles, our second place winner. He wins a $50 gift certificate to Jerry's Artarama. Daniel finds inspiration in nature. He says "I see birds as free spirits; not bound by the rules of gravity. This speaks to me in a number of ways but mostly the desire to free my mind of personal inhibitions. I let go of what logic or reason allows and let th reality of my
imagination come to life. Like a bird disregarding the pull of gravity and soaring into the wind. I like to think that a part of me lives in each of my paintings through this transfusion of energy." You can see more of Daniel's unique artwork at his website: www.artbydangeles.com Viewer's Choice Award Winner Our Viewer's
Choice Winner for April is Roula Chreim. Internationally acclaimed artist and curator, Roula Chreim shares reasons for an ongoing theme that surfaces in her work. Between extensive traveling in her previous career and being displaced after her house was destroyed via war, “home” is a pivotal idea and crucial place that manifests from her psyche and heart in many of her works as well as in her life. As a young artist she painted small houses and meadows, inspired by her former town of
Salhieh. Ms. Chreim started painting at the young age of four years old, with great support coming from her parents and art teachers.

kb.jpg) | DEADLINE APRIL 05, 2017 L.A. Photo Curator: Call for Entry- The Human Relationship to Water Online Event - Calls for Submissions - Photography Online Gallery Note from Van Der Plas: Cultures have been historically defined by their relationship to water. The rapid growth of many of the world's major cities can be attributed to the success of their trading ports.Water was a means of transport and commerce that sustained
interconnectivity as well as a source of vitality for humans. These water-based industries attracted workforces from all over the world that would come to make up entire communities within a city. So it is water that has brought us together, kept us connected and quenched our thirst. However, man's relationship with water has become estranged. As ports closed and moved outside of the city, as planes and cars took over the role of the seas, and as the individual came to expect their cargo at
their doorstep, so too did human interconnectivity lose its relationship to water and the natural elements. We have come to see water as wilderness and cannot truly understand it's purpose. Our relationship to drinking water has been disrupted by Nestle and Poland Spring. We go deep-sea diving and take ferries for enjoyment all while we unload our waste in its depths and drive its populations to extinction. Walking on the Hudson or East River promenade in NYC feels like walking the city's
outskirts. The West Side Highway and FDR encompass the cities outer edges, making way for the automobile in place of waterfront access. Submissions should grapple with the intersection between culture and water, highlighting it's most pertinent physical manifestations." The Van Der Plas gallery has been a conduit for contemporary outsider artists for over 40 years. Online Event

| | DEADLINE APRIL 09, 2017 Trees Photography Exhibition Contests, Juried Art Shows - Photography Photo Gallery Trees. They say dog is man's best friend, but perhaps it is the tree? We yearn to be near them; they hold a special place in the heart. Givers of shelter and sustenance, they
feed our bodies and our souls. They inspire through beauty, whether the flowers of an orchard, a mountain-side of birch, or a single old oak or spindly sapling. Trees provide community and companionship; we live and love in their shadow. Home to bird and bug, man and beast alike; the tree asks nothing in return but a place to spread it's branches in the sun and a patch of earth to put down roots. It won't come when you call, but it's dogged permanence in spite of the wild twists and turns of our
own peripatetic lives is what charms us so. So giving is the tree, it synthesizes the very oxygen we breathe; a dandy bit of magic indeed! So this month at 1650, let's turn over a new leaf and give props to the magical world of TREES. Without whom, we would literally be nothing. Approximately fifty works will be chosen from submitted photos to be included in the TREES group photography exhibition at 1650 Gallery in Los Angeles. Website : http://1650gallery.com

| | DEADLINE APRIL 10, 2017 EXPO Contemporary Art Fair for Artists Accepting Submissions Calls for Submissions - Acrylic, Ceramics, Crafts, Digital Media, Fiber, Glass, Mosaic, Graphic Design, Drawing/Illustration, Jewelry,
Mixed media, Metalsmithing, Sculpture, Oil, Pastel, Photography, Watercolor, Video/Film Other EXPO Contemporary, the art fair for independent artists of all disciplines, returns for its 2nd year, April 21-23, 2017 at The Reef in downtown Los Angeles. EXPO Contemporary offers a unique professional platform for artists to present their work and concepts to an eager audience of collectors, dealers, curators, critics and art enthusiasts. Not only do artists gain important relationships with
this audience, they also keep 100% of all sales at the fair. EXPO Contemporary is for artists what Art Basel is for galleries, a professional platform and venue to present your art. In the past, galleries played an important role in representing and nurturing artists. However, that system can no longer support the amount of good artists who seek representation today, or who are working in unconventional media and forms. Through EXPO Contemporary, artists can directly present and discuss their
work with curators, gallery directors, dealers, collectors, editors, publishers, writers, educators, and cultural organizations, those who seek to find, invest in, promote and support the finest established, emerging and undiscovered artistic talent available today. EXPO Contemporary will be part of Spring Art Week Los Angeles, which includes Photo Independent Art Fair, The Los Angeles Festival of Photography, Photobook Independent, The Objects of Art Show LA, all taking place at The Reef, in
downtown LA. This promises to be an exciting weekend of art and photography in Los Angeles, attracting thousands of art lovers. EXPO Contemporary is accepting submissions from artists worldwide. Website : http://www.fabrikmagazine.com

| | DEADLINE MAY 31, 2017 - $3000 in
Awards BLACK & WHITE 2017 - National Juried Art Show NYC Calls for Submissions - Acrylic, Digital Media, Fiber, Glass, Mosaic, Drawing/Illustration, Mixed media, Sculpture, Oil, Pastel, Photography, Watercolor, Video/Film Art Organization The Brooklyn Waterfront Artists Coalition announces our third Black & White National Juried art show, opening July 29,
2017. Our juror is Alison Hokanson, Assistant Curator for Nineteenth-Century European Painting at The Metropolitan Museum of Art. $3000 in cash awards, including $1000 Best in Show Gold. The exhibit runs July 29 - Aug 20, 2017. We bathe in the beauty of color and spin thousands of words describing the experience that the cone cells transmit to our brain. In reality, they are not nearly as numerous as our rods, the cells that register light and dark, the black and white of our experience. Our
rods are less articulated in language; fewer words are generated to describe that experience. Black and white is primal, the underneath, the foundation, of the opulence of color; black and white is where we register motion and, when the cones do not have sufficient light, our rods optimize our survival in the night woods. Black and White intends to explore this underground of survival and few words. Ours is a truly unique gallery—a massive Civil War-era warehouse on the Red Hook waterfront in
Brooklyn, NY. Its enormous space affords us the opportunity to exhibit really huge work, and we welcome it. This call for submissions is open to all residents of the U.S. and its Territories 18 years of age or older. This is a juried exhibition for artists working in all traditional and non-traditional 2-D and 3-D media, including film/video when part of an installation. Website : http://bwac.org/juried.html
