Whether it is a single flower, a garden in full aromatic bloom or a "shy" plant on a window sill, there is no mistaking the awesome complexity of the planet's precious myriad types of vegetation. This abundance of flowers and greenery inspires and challenges the creative mind to redefine and/or simply glorify their splendor. This competition is open to all artists and photographers 18 years of age or older. Life's so Green

Contests, Juried Art Shows - Acrylic, Ceramics, Crafts, Digital Media, Fiber, Glass, Mosaic, Graphic Design, Drawing/Illustration, Jewelry, Mixed media, Metalsmithing, Sculpture, Oil, Pastel, Photography, Watercolor, Video/Film Art Gallery

Once again summer will be upon us. Every year we experience the infusion of new life with this season. Imagine the complexity of life, the beauty all around us, the energy of 'Green'. How can your art capture the greenness and goodness of life and our wondrous planet? How do you experience the Spring and Summer seasons? Think bold, think fresh, think new life, think green! On one of my first trips to Seattle, a place known for lots of rain, I was surprised to see green plant life growing directly on the concrete, sides of bricks and buildings! Life had taken root and grows wherever there is an opportunity. The explosion of life that comes in Spring and the Summer seasons invigorates the senses and is utterly beautiful. We are looking for all types of works--painting, sculpture, photography and more--works that express the life and feeling of green. Will you submit a painting, yarn woven into a sculptural form, or a piece of sod arranged in some way?... The main criteria for selection is creativity and fresh approaches in the artwork. Open for Entry. Details: Exhibit Date: Thursday, June 1 2017 – Saturday, June 24 2017. Opening Reception: Friday, June 2 2017, 5-9pm. Media Type: All Media. Juried Exhibition: Juried By 3 Square Art, LLC. Submission Fee: $35 for 3 images, $5 for additional work (up to 5). Awards & Benefits: 3SA GOLD AWARD: $250. 3SA SILVER AWARD: $125. Black and White, Jennifer Schlesinger, juror.

Calls for Submissions - Photography Photo Gallery

For this exhibition we are looking for work that tells a story, recites a poem, or simply gives beauty to the viewer, without significant use of the color spectrum. We are especially drawn to the sense of timelessness that monochromatic images can convey. All photo-based capture methods and processes are welcome. Jennifer Schlesinger is an artist, curator, gallerist, and educator based in Santa Fe, New Mexico. She was the Director of VERVE Gallery of Photography from 2005-2017, and is now the owner and Director at Obscura Gallery in Santa Fe. Schlesinger has taught at the College of Santa Fe and continues to teach workshops at the Santa Fe Photographic Workshops, Art Intersection, and other venues. Schlesinger approaches her fine art photography with an interest in the historical development of photography as an artistic medium – incorporating influences from the age-old camera obscura, to 19th century albumen process, to 20th century gelatin silver printing. She is interested in how the evolution of photography can expand upon the development of photography as an art form. Her artistic media of choice are the 19th century albumen process and gelatin silver printing processes, and her work largely focuses on the landscape and how humans philosophically interact with the natural world. She uses photography as a tool to capture the world around her both poetically and metaphorically, and is highly influenced by the investigation of life through philosophy.

BLACK & WHITE 2017 - National Juried Art Show NYC

Calls for Submissions - Acrylic, Digital Media, Fiber, Glass, Mosaic, Drawing/Illustration, Mixed media, Sculpture, Oil, Pastel, Photography, Watercolor, Video/Film Art Organization

The Brooklyn Waterfront Artists Coalition announces our third Black & White National Juried art show, opening July 29, 2017. Our juror is Alison Hokanson, Assistant Curator for Nineteenth-Century European Painting at The Metropolitan Museum of Art. $3000 in cash awards, including $1000 Best in Show Gold. The exhibit runs July 29 - Aug 20, 2017. We bathe in the beauty of color and spin thousands of words describing the experience that the cone cells transmit to our brain. In reality, they are not nearly as numerous as our rods, the cells that register light and dark, the black and white of our experience. Our rods are less articulated in language; fewer words are generated to describe that experience. Black and white is primal, the underneath, the foundation, of the opulence of color; black and white is where we register motion and, when the cones do not have sufficient light, our rods optimize our survival in the night woods. Black and White intends to explore this underground of survival and few words. Ours is a truly unique gallery—a massive Civil War-era warehouse on the Red Hook waterfront in Brooklyn, NY. Its enormous space affords us the opportunity to exhibit really huge work, and we welcome it. This call for submissions is open to all residents of the U.S. and its Territories 18 years of age or older. This is a juried exhibition for artists working in all traditional and non-traditional 2-D and 3-D media, including film/video when part of an installation.
