30th Annual Northern National Art Competition

Welcome to the 30th Annual Northern National Art Competition (NNAC) September 18 – October 20, 2017. Join artists from across the country in this esteemed national juried competition. This event, featuring works in a variety of mediums, is a cooperative venture of the Northern Arts Council and the Nicolet College Art Gallery.

Prizes and Awards
More than $8,500 will be awarded including three $1,000 Awards of Excellence.Awards are based upon the actual artworks. Shipped work must be at the Nicolet College Art Gallery by September 1. Hand delivered work is due on September 2. Work must remain for the entire exhibition. All proceeds of sales are assigned to the artist. Awards will be distributed after the close of the show.

Juror/Judge: Gary Freeburg
Gary Freeburg is a professor of art and the director of the Duke Hall Gallery of Fine Art at James Madison University. He was previously a professor of art at the University of Alaska's Kenai Peninsula College, where he also served as the curator of the campus art gallery that now bears his name. Freeburg has worked with renowned photographers and educators including Ansel Adams, Oliver Gagliani, and John Schultz. His photographs have been exhibited nationally and have appeared in several publications. His wilderness photography is also the subject of the documentary film “An Artist's Journey to the Valley of Ten Thousand Smokes.” Freeburg holds three degrees in photography including an M.F.A. from the University of Iowa.
