Artist of the Month Contest Winners
Artist of The Month Winner
James Guentner is the Grand Prize Winner for August, winning a $75 gift certificate to Jerry's Artarama. James has been painting in oils since the age of ten, began selling his work by age eleven and teaching at age thirteen. He received an Associates Degree from Community College and a Bachelor of Arts from Carlow University; becoming the first male graduate in the history of Carlow. Later he continued with self study; teaching at the Pittsburgh City Schools, North Hills and Shaler School Districts as a substitute art teacher. Visit James's artist profile for more information:

Second Place Winner
Shalimar Legaspi is this month's Second Place Winner and wins a $50 gift certificate to Jerry's Artarama.  Shalimar says "Although  some have been quick to categorize my work as impressionistic or  post-modern, I have never considered myself confined to a single style. I  simply paint what inspires me, and the beauty of the world offers  limitless inspiration. As a nurse (and a hopeless animal lover), I see  love, bravery, kindness, and the beauty of the human spirit every day.  But having been the youngest member of a large family, I have always  felt a special affinity for what is underappreciated and overlooked.  This is one of the reasons I have always been drawn to painting: it  gives a voice to the voiceless, and shows that beauty can be found  everywhere, even in the most surprising places" See more of Shalimar's art at her website:  https://www.artbyshalimar.com

Viewer's Choice Award Winner
Our Viewer's Choice Winner for August is Chloe Waterfield who wins a $25 gift certificate to Jerry's Artarama.

Chloe Waterfield cites the work of naturalist David Attenborough as her single biggest influence and inspiration as a painter. She was always a keen dabbler in paint; mostly coming up with watercolor book covers for the stories she and her twin sister used to write. She was also an avid writer of poetry and short stories.

Chloe has painted numerous commissions for clients in Malta, the UK, USA and South Africa. She accepts painting commissions of pet portraits, animals, children and babies in oils, acrylics and watercolors.

She is a firm believer in conservation optimism and says.  "Through my wildlife paintings I aim to raise awareness of environmental issues, extinctions and habitat loss, without being dictatorial or finger-pointing. As an artist, I want to show people what they are missing, to feel the subjects within the painting and to gain a new appreciation of the world around them. Only with this knowledge and appreciation can there be positivism and productivity."

PH21 Gallery: Call for Entries: The Shape of Things

Calls for Submissions - Photography Photo Gallery

A juried international photography exhibition.November 23 – December 16, 2017. Objects in our visual environment come in many forms and photographers are often intrigued by the shape of things. In some photographic genres the images of things have a simple, depictive function; they are merely part of a complex image that may consist of several recognizable objects but their shape is not significant in the overall composition of the image. At the other end of the spectrum, abstract photography concentrates on shapes and forms for their own sake up to a point when we can no longer recognise the objects themselves. Between being either insignificant or the only significant element, the shape of recognisable things may also be the driving compositional component of an image. That is, the shape of things may be of central importance to the composition of photographs not only in abstract photography but also in other genres. These images capture our attention and stand out for their creative form. PH21 Gallery invites photographers to submit their work for a group exhibition themed The Shape of Things. We are looking for submissions from all photographers who are interested in this subject and would like to share their work with a wider international audience through the exposure of PH21 Gallery. The theme is broadly construed; we are looking for photographs in which the shape of things is a significant compositional element. The only restriction is that the object(s) in the photograph must be recognisable. Apart from that, we are interested in all possible creative photographic interpretations of the theme.
