Happy Holidays from TheArtList
“We keep moving forward, opening new doors, and doing new things,
because we’re curious and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths.” - Walt Disney
December is always an interesting month at TheArtList. It is time of distraction in the outside world for everyone. However, even with all of the holiday distractions, there are still lots of great calls and submissions coming in as galleries and organizations
are finishing out the year and planning for 2018! Be sure that you set aside some time to peruse and submit to these wonderful calls.
We had another great round of Artist of the Month contest submissions and pleased to showcase the three winners to end out the year. We would also like to mention three outstanding artists as our honorable mentions for this month. Congratulations to: Ronnie Watt, Colleen Corradi Brannigan, and Susan Waters. We are always so impressed with the quality of the work submitted to the Artist of the Month Contest. Going

DEADLINE DECEMBER 11, 2017 The Decisive Moment Contests, Juried Art Shows - Photography Photo Gallery "To me, photography is the simultaneous recognition, in a fraction of a second, of the significance of an event as well as of a precise
organization of forms which give that event its proper expression." Henri Cartier-Bresson's description succinctly describes one of photography's highest aspirations. We believe there is both truth and beauty in the image that eloquently--decisively--captures life's fleeting moments. This juried exhibition is a call to those photographers who have taken one of photography's true tests: The straight rendering of life's moments.

| | DEADLINE DECEMBER 13, 2017 CALL FOR ENTRY: 'Street Shooting' Online Event - Calls for Submissions - Photography Online Gallery Dean says, "This call is looking for photographs taken on the street, in Los Angeles or around the world. What is street photography? It is candid moments on the street or in any other public place such a grocery store, a mall, or a park. It is chance encounters and random incidents in public places. Street photography generally focuses on people and everyday life and shares the same ethics as photojournalism and documentary photography, meaning nothing is set up or
changed in the digital darkroom. Street portraits are also considered to be street photography and like photojournalism, portraits are the only type of photograph that can be set up. Some street photographers shoot in an artful way, with shadows and light. Others shoot like a newspaper photographer, concentrating on moments among people on the street. Don't just photograph someone walking down the sidewalk. The genre is saturated with these images. Look for unusual locations and aesthetically
pleasing backgrounds. The background content is as important as the subject. The combination of the two makes the picture. Do not photograph anyone less fortunate then yourself, meaning no photos of homeless people unless you can make a strong social statement." | | DEADLINE DECEMBER 21, 2017 PH21 Gallery: Call for Entries: Staged Calls for
Submissions - Photography Photo Gallery A juried international photography exhibition. January 18 – February 10, 2018. Although staged photography emerged as a distinct artistic genre only a few decades ago, staging has been a standard photographic practice from the early days of the medium. For some genres like still life, fashion or nude photography, setting the stage and directing the models are almost intrinsic aspects of the creative process. Photographs
belonging to other genres, for instance portraits, may or may not be staged or directed. For this exhibition we are looking for images, which have been constructed to create a unique meaning. We invite works created by artists who, in addition to that of the photographer, also assume other creative functions, such as setting or designing the scene, directing the model(s), sometimes designing the costume and set, or even applying makeup and prosthetics. Staged images, however, do not necessarily
have to involve human or nonhuman models as they may rely merely on the arrangements of selected objects into a meaningful scene. PH21 Gallery invites photographers to submit their work for a group exhibition themed Staged. We are looking for submissions from all photographers who are interested in this subject and would like to share their work with a wider international audience through the exposure of PH21 Gallery. The theme is broadly construed without any photographic genre restrictions.
The only requirement is that the photographer had to be involved in constructing the scene that was photographed or she had to direct her model(s) for the image. We are interested in all creative photographic interpretations.
