Artist of the Month Contest Winners |
Artist of The Month Winner This month's grand prize winner is Marlene
Jorge and she wins a $75 gift certificate to Jerry's Artarama. Autodidact Artist Marlene Jorge displays through her art pieces a complex set of influences from her rich and varied life. Born in the Dominican Republic in 1974 where in her adolescence she obtained a major at Laws the artist expressed since very young, and throughout her life a deep love, sensibility and ability for the fine arts which she cultivated throughout her life. Marlene's art reflects her
Caribbean inheritance with the bold colors, stylized poses and echoes of the warm and tropical surroundings where the artist grew up. Intensely melancholic gazes and movement are essential elements to her oeuvre, as, too, is the gentle dominance of the human figure expressed in a nostalgic manner. One of the recurring features Marlene‘s artwork possess is the accentuation of the figure through blank outlines in each one of her pieces dramatizing it in a illustrative way. Figures, wrapped in a
nostalgic atmosphere are usually the subject of Marlene's work signature, a subject that expresses a demanding act of support and recognition of the value of the most interesting subject, as the artist expresses, Women. Read more about her work here: https://www.theartlist.com/aom_04_18.html

Second Place Winner Sue Crosby Doyle is our second place winner, winning a $50 gift certificate to Jerry's Artarama.
Sue's Artist Statement: "When I work in a series, my artwork takes on an expression of its own. I deconstruct and reconstruct ideas until they seem to have a life of their own. This occurrence or development of ideas by chance, innovations or serendipity is brought about by the use of different design theories and
the use different tools and media.
Within these paintings, I have used many different types of tools; brushes, stamps (commercial and homemade), templates, scrapers, printing rollers and blotting with other papers. Choices of media include different types of paper, the use of inks, watercolor, and acrylic paints, oily pastels, china markers and pencils. Choice of subject and materials are an integral part of my creativity. While concentrating and
pushing my idea further than I can, and then just a little more as the idea morphs into a finished piece." See more at: https://www.suecrosbydoyle.net Third Place Winner Mirvia Rivera Eckert wins third place and a $25 gift certificate from Jerry's Artarama. Mirvia says " If I had to choose the fundamental concept that unifies all of my work, I think it would simply be celebrating beauty. In all of my work, I want the viewer to acknowledge and appreciate the beauty in my subjects. There is beauty in small moments of observation, in embracing our different cultural
backgrounds, in the close up details of nature, and even in moments of emotional turmoil and sorrow. Though it isn’t always easy, I choose, in my daily life, to focus on what is beautiful, and I hope that by sharing this perspective through my paintings, others may be inspired to do the same. Many aspects of my life find their way into my paintings: my Puerto Rican heritage, spirituality, love of family and friends, and fascination with nature. These ideas can manifest
themselves in bright, vibrantly colored compositions, or in dramatic grayscale pieces. But they are all connected by a visual style with roots in my earlier career as a graphic designer." Visit her webpage at: http://www.mirviadesigns.com

15, 2018 In Living Color - Photography Exhibition Calls for Submissions - Photography Photo Gallery Much like the the 1939 blockbuster film THE WIZARD OF OZ, the history of photography starts out in black & white but soon turns into a glorious full color world filled with possibilities. Where photogs once had to be content
with the 10 shades of silver gray afforded by Ansel Adam's zone system, color photographers have literally all the colors of the rainbow with which to express themselves; the purple hues of dawn and the low golden light of early morning. Midday brings the flatter, harsher palette of a direct, white and shadow-less sun. Late afternoon returns us to the romance of low gold and orange light, finally giving way to fiery red and purple sunsets and the violet hush of dusk. Not to be outdone, the muted
indigo of nightfall covers all until the dawn again. This month join our exhibition at 1650 Gallery as we dive into the wonderful world of color. Show us the powerful punch of rainy day colors or the man-made eerie green of fluorescent overhead lights. Show us the green apple, the orange convertible or the multi-colored patchwork quilt. Show us the muted colors of fog, the time-worn patina of your Uncle Bob's classic Buick or maybe even the ruby red of your girlfriend Angela's lips. Show us
whatever you like! But most of all show us your imagination and your lust for life this month as 1650 celebrates the world around us IN LIVING COLOR! Approximately fifty works will be chosen from submitted photos to be included in the IN LIVING COLOR group photography exhibition at 1650 Gallery in Los Angeles.

Mark-making can be loose and spontaneous or intentionally controlled and structured. Marks can be descriptive, expressive, conceptual, photographic or symbolic, and appear across all genres of artwork from abstract to representational. A
mark can be made with a splash or drip of paint, or a thread through space. | | DEADLINE APRIL 30, 2018 PH21 Gallery - Call for Entries: CorpoRealities Calls for Submissions - Photography Photo Gallery
A juried international photography exhibition.June 14 - July 7, 2018. The human body, in
full or in part, is often in the focus of various photographic genres. From documentary, event and street photography to fashion photography and the nude, photographers have always found ways of constructing images in which the specific portrayal of the human body gains significance. This may be stemming from the rich layers of meanings determined and shaped by the specific socio-cultural context of the image, the visual interaction of the human body with the surrounding physical space, or the
intriguing compositional possibilities offered by the body itself. When focussing on the body, some photographers explore movements, study expressive gestures and postures, or concentrate on the beauty and details of the human anatomy. Some narrate whole life stories through the depiction of the human body. Others may offer stern visual criticism of our normative conceptions of the human body and its mainstream representation in Western media. PH21 Gallery invites photographers to submit their
work for a group exhibition themed CorpoRealities. We are looking for submissions from all photographers who are interested in this subject, and who would like to share their work with a wider international audience through the exposure of PH21 Gallery. The theme is broadly construed without any photographic genre restrictions. Indeed, we are interested in all possible creative photographic interpretations of the theme.

| | DEADLINE MAY 30, 2018 - $3000 in Awards COLOR - National Juried Art Show NYC Calls for Submissions - Acrylic, Fiber, Glass, Mosaic, Drawing/Illustration, Mixed media, Sculpture, Oil, Pastel, Photography, Watercolor Art Organization We are excited to announce our fourth biennial national juried art show, COLOR, opening July 28, 2018. Our juror is Marcela Guerrero, Assistant Curator at the Whitney Museum of American Art. $3000 in cash prizes will be awarded,
including $1000 Best of Show Gold & $500 Best of Show Silver. The exhibit runs July 28 – August 19, 2018. This is an open Call for Submissions from artists all over the USA (and its Territories) for an exhibit in our gallery – 8000 square feet of a Civil War-era warehouse on the Red Hook waterfront. With its trendy restaurants, bars, boutiques and billion-dollar view of the Statue of Liberty and New York Harbor, it's an exciting place to visit and EXHIBIT. The enormous space of the gallery
affords us the opportunity to exhibit large work, and we welcome it. "In visual perception a color is almost never seen as it really is—as it physically is. This fact makes color the most relative medium in art. In order to use color effectively it is necessary to recognize that color deceives continually. 'Color is "passive," "deceptive," and "unstable," color behaves, color is magic,"'(Joseph Albers, Interaction of Color.) Find the colors that sing to you and share them with our wide audience.
This call for submissions is open to all residents of the U.S. and its Territories 18 years of age or older. This is a juried exhibition for artists working in all traditional and non-traditional 2-D and 3-D media, including film/video when part of an installation. All artwork must be original in concept, design and execution. Early Bird discount, $45/5, through May 9th; $65/5 May 10th-30th, 2018.
