Much like the the 1939 blockbuster film THE WIZARD OF OZ, the history of photography starts out in black and white but soon turns into a glorious full color world filled with possibilities. Where photogs once had to be content with the 10 shades of silver gray afforded by Ansel Adam’s zone system, color photographers have literally all the colors of the rainbow with which to express themselves; the purple hues of dawn and the low
golden light of early morning. Midday brings the flatter, harsher palette of a direct, white and shadow-less sun. Late afternoon returns us to the romance of low gold and orange light, finally giving way to fiery red and purple sunsets and the violet hush of dusk. Not to be outdone, the muted indigo of nightfall covers all until the dawn again. This month join our exhibition at 1650 Gallery as we dive into the wonderful world of color. Show us the powerful punch of rainy day colors or the
man-made eerie green of fluorescent overhead lights. Show us the green apple, the orange convertible or the multi-colored patchwork quilt. Show us the muted colors of fog, the time-worn patina of your Uncle Bob’s classic Buick or maybe even the ruby red of your girlfriend Angela’s lips. Show us whatever you like! But most of all show us your imagination and your lust for life this month as 1650 celebrates the world around us IN LIVING COLOR!
Approximately fifty works will be chosen from submitted photos to be included in the IN LIVING COLOR group photography exhibition at 1650 Gallery in Los Angeles.
There is an entry fee of $40 for up to 5 images. Additional entries may be submitted for $5 each. We offer free matting and framing for accepted photographs that fit
our pre-cut mat sizes for the duration of the exhibition. We have a variety of frames and mats to choose from. We will also print your photo for a nominal fee if you are accepted into the show and would prefer not to mail a print. Selected artists may choose to offer their work for sale. The gallery retains 50% sales commission.
AWARDS: Best In Show, 2nd Place and 3rd Place will be
awarded and posted online after the show opening. Award winning photos will be featured on the show page and Best In Show winners will have a small portfolio of their work (up to 10 images) featured in our 1650 Spotlight gallery of photographic excellence.
All Awards winners will also be featured in our 1650 Gallery newsletter, which is broadcast via email to our mailing list.
Getting the word out about artists we're excited about helps you do more great work, helps us show more great work, and helps keep the often insular world of fine art photography more diverse and vibrant.
