Artist of the Month Contest Winners |
Artist of The Month Winner This month's grand prize winner is Lynne Foskett and she wins a $75 gift certificate to Jerry's Artarama. Foskett was born in 1949, in south Florida. Raised and educated in the South, Mid-West and Northeast, she received a strong background in the visual arts in junior college with a focus in Fashion Illustration. After art studies in Florence, Italy, she worked in the graphic arts and design field, assisted a regionally acclaimed artist on a commissioned piece, and found her early
expression in painting the varied bird life of the south. Foskett went on to complete her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in painting from Northern Illinois University. Work and family kept Foskett’s painting practice simmering on the back burner for several years. Since 2000, Foskett has been actively growing her art practice in a semi-abstract style, working as a volunteer and leader in several of the arts organizations in the Tampa Bay FL community, as well as acting as a judge for
variety of art organizations’ shows. Foskett is an active member of the Professional Association of Visual Artists (PAVA) and of the Florida Artists Group (FLAG). Her work has been garnering recognition as she participates in many area and statewide shows. In January 2018, Foskett completed a successful solo show, her second, and is now preparing new work for upcoming exhibitions.

Second Place Winner Laurie Rosenberg is our second place winner, winning a $50 gift certificate to Jerry's Artarama. In Laurie's words: " I am a retired elementarty school teacher. I was working with children for 16 years here in Israel, where I live. I grew up in Phoenix, Arizona. After graduating from Arizona State University with a degree in textiles and clothing I moved to L.A. where I worked in the garment business before moving to Tel Aviv. I have been drawing and
painting since I could hold a crayon! Only now I finally have time to devote my days to painting and creating. I tell my friends I have been waiting forty years for this opportunity.
Right now I am painting with acrylic, and as you can see many of my pieces are influenced by old Hollywood, and retro living. Guess I miss the 1950's!"
Third Place Winner David Robatin wins third place and a $25 gift certificate from Jerry's Artarama. He says about this piece: " "Life is just more interesting with you in it" is intended to connect to the viewer by compelling them to think about others – and how their lives are made more colorful through relationships." David uses mostly acrylics on art boards and canvas, and has explored pushing the boundaries within his specific style. He has been
influenced by everything from chiaroscuro to color field, from Dali to Rothko. Visit his website at: https://davidrobatin.com/
Aubrey Chali is the Viewer's Choice Winner. She says about her piece "Tribal Elders" Tribal Elders - depicts an important perennial coming of age ceremony of boys within traditional African society of Luvale people, North Western, Province, Zambia. It represents a duty bestowed from the
spiritual world and ancestors to humanity in the physical world. Tribal Elders marks a key stage in the ritual where boys are secluded by the appointed tribal elders aft er their circumcision and later reintroduced into the world. The seclusion and reentry marks the transition from boyhood into manhood. This right of passage is instrumental among Luvale, Chokwe and Mbunda tribes. Traditionally, graduates leave the mukanda and thus become equipped with the right morals and
skills to take up their responsibilities in society. You can see more of Aubrey's work at: https://www.facebook.com/aubrey.chali

| | DEADLINE MAY 11, 2018 CALL FOR ENTRIES | THE ABSTRACT IMAGE Calls for Submissions - Photography Art Gallery THEME | THE ABSTRACT IMAGE: 'An abstract photograph draws away from that which is realistic or literal. It draws away from natural appearances and recognizable subjects in the actual world. Some people even say it departs from true meaning,
existence, and reality itself. It stands apart from the concrete whole with its purpose instead depending on conceptual meaning and intrinsic form.' John Suler. Praxis Gallery seeks the submission of photographic works that explore the world through an abstracted lens; utilizing elements of color, light, shadow, texture, shape and line to express meaning outside of traditional representational and documentary styles of photography. All genres, capture types, black & white and color,
traditional and non-traditional photographic and digital post-production processes are welcome for submission.

| | DEADLINE MAY 28, 2018 PH21 Gallery - Call for Entries: Monochrome Calls for Submissions - Photography Photo Gallery A juried international photography exhibition.July 12 – August 4, 2018. Monochrome photography is usually associated with black
and white images. However, in the history of photography other hues, such as sepia and cyan were also used, and today there are countless examples of monochromatic images whose photographic qualities are based on the tonal range of various other colours. While monochromacity used to be a technological limitation for a long time, today it is more of an artistic choice. Photographers may opt for working with the shades of just one colour for compositional reasons or for reasons related to the
expressive content of their images, and therefore their decision is to be interpreted. Our appreciation of contemporary monochromatic images is also rooted in the knowledge that the lack of colour range is significant and meaningful, not merely a technological limitation. PH21 Gallery invites photographers to submit their work for a group exhibition themed Monochrome. We are looking for submissions from all photographers who create black and white or other monochromatic images and would like to
share their work with a wider international audience through the exposure of PH21 Gallery. We welcome submissions from all photographic genres, including abstract compositions. We are interested in all possible creative photographic interpretations of the theme.
