Artist of the Month Contest Winners |
Artist of The Month Winner This month's grand prize winner is Sana Shaw who wins a $75 gift certificate to Jerry's Artarama. Sana says: The main ideas of my work is closely connected with the spiritual purpose of my life. The development of creativity and the development of personality are always parallel. Creativity is my way of life and way of communicating with the world; this is my attitude and expression of my spiritual aspirations, this is my way of development and education for my soul. I explore
my inner world, trying to consider my desires, my tasks, my mission in this world and attempt to express this in all my works. My professional self-conception also includes cognition of the surrounding world, it structure and that can give us strength in this world, how we can find meaning and joy in every day of our life. In my works, I want to discuss together with the viewer how to free our souls from many stereotypes, false beliefs, to see the shining essence of our soul and to realize
the appearance of a sense of flow within us that brings your personality to new opportunities and perspectives. This raises us to a new level of our spiritual development and promotes the manifestation of a brighter and stronger individuality. I believe we live in an amazing time in the development of science and technology. Science and art both expand human capabilities. I am fascinated by new achievements and discoveries in science, in particular in medicine.

Second Place Winner Mariam Qureshi is our second place winner, winning a $50 gift certificate to Jerry's Artarama.. About Mariam and her
art: Oil, Acrylics, Water color and so much more. All gorgeous paintings made by an award wining Self taught Canadian Artist. Mariam Qureshi's work has made it into the hearts of many, as well as the legendary art museum, le musee de Louvre in Paris. Born in a war torn country, as a child she grew up playing and making pigments with rocks, leaves and more. Three years ago, she decided a 9 to 5 desk job was not enough and missed tremendously doing what she loved
doing the most, painting. Inspired by dreams, imagination and emotional life events, mariam creates images with textures, bold colours and movement. After posting a few paintings on social media, she quickly gained a following of admirers, one of whom gave her a public studio, which she made into an art gallery, giving other local artists an equal chance at art. The city fell in love with her art and her mysteriously humble personality. She continues to exhibit in Europe,
Canada and in her new found home, Edmonton Alberta. Visit Mariam's website: https://www.gallerymariamqureshi.com/

| | DEADLINE JULY 12, 2018 - $450 in Awards MATERIAL MATTERS: Breaking with Tradition Calls for Submissions - Ceramics, Fiber, Glass, Mosaic, Mixed media, Metalsmithing, Sculpture
As an expression of culture, art is often
unconventional and rebellious; experimental and insightful. Yet, art by necessity relies upon familiar traditions to achieve its unconventional ends. This is why the better we know our traditions, the more cleverly we can break them. The annual exhibition, Material Matters, asks artists who work in a variety of traditional materials -- clay, glass, wood, metal or fiber/textile -- to consider the traditions underpinning their work and the rules and conventions they break in method or material.
Artists are invited to submit original works that change traditional "ways of seeing" by demonstrating a break with the past or suggesting a new way forward, whether toward logical or illogical conclusions. This is a national juried exhibition for artists 18 years of age or older. All artwork must be original in concept, design and execution. All work must be handcrafted by the artist. Mass production work and commercially manufactured pieces will not be accepted. Exhibit dates: October 6-28,
2018. JUROR: Melissa Stern is an artist and journalist. Her drawing and sculpture have been exhibited in museums, galleries, private and corporate collections throughout the world. Early Bird submissions – June 14th - $35 for up to five (5) images. Final Deadline submissions between June 15th and July 12th-- $50 for submission of up to five (5) images. $5 for each additional image. Submissions are online only. (Enter & pay by each deadline; upload images any time 'til final
deadline.)

The visual narrative of the artist's work should speak to the human condition: from joy to despondence, kind fortune to adversity, liberating freedom of expression to agonies of suppression. of Anxiety Calls for Submissions - Acrylic, Fiber, Drawing/Illustration, Mixed media, Sculpture, Oil, Pastel, Photography, Watercolor Art Gallery
Although first coined by WH Auden in 1948 to describe the fear, disillusionment, confusion, and dismay that Europeans endured, we know full well that the "Age of Anxiety" is not contained in the past. We are highly conscious of the perils of our era, from the rise of fascism, environmental concerns,
threats to privacy, terrorism, drugs, and assaults on our democracy. Artists help to chronicle, illuminate, and cope with this anxiety. The Arts Guild of Sonoma invites artists to participate in our annual juried exhibition, Art in an Age of Anxiety. JUROR: Chester Arnold is a teacher and a nationally exhibited painter whose works explore the contemporary landscape. His work is represented in the public collections of many institutions, including the Smithsonian American Art Museum, the

Arnold lives in Sonoma, California, and has been represented by Catharine Clark Gallery since 2003. | | DEADLINE JULY 22, 2018 THEME | FOUND OBJECTS Contests, Juried Art Shows - Photography Art Gallery
A "found object" is a material artifact discovered by chance and assigned esthetic value in an artist's hand. Found art may include a wide array of objects and items either
discarded, forgotten, dropped, or misplaced – such as shoes, a fork, shopping carts, old photographs, signs, doll heads, industrial machinery, abandoned cars, clocks, mementos, or any object that can be reimagined through the lens of a camera… as long as the artist believes that the discovered object possesses a certain aesthetic or talismanic quality - stemming from its appearance, social or personal history. Praxis Gallery seeks photographic art that explores this idiom. Submissions may be a
study of the "found object" as pure visual form, detached from its history or utility. Conversely, the representation of the object may be a catalyst for exploring broader issues such as subjectivity and socialization, memory and loss, or love and death. All genres, capture types, black & white and color, traditional and non-traditional photographic and digital post-production processes are welcome for submission. JUROR | LAURA MIGLIORINO. Notice of Acceptance | August 8th, 2018. Exhibition

| | DEADLINE JULY 23, 2018 PH21 Gallery - Call for Entries: Mobile Calls for Submissions - Photography Photo
Gallery
A juried international photography exhibition. September 6 – October 6, 2018. Exploring the possibilities of the different technological means of creating photographic images has always been a challenging aspect of the ever-evolving practices of the medium. This not only pertains to traditional devices such as pinhole cameras, but also to new technological advances like mobile photography. Some consider smartphones with their built-in
cameras, apps and special effects to have brought us about a revolution in photography on a par with the industry-changing 1888 Kodak camera and its 1897 successor, the folding pocket Kodak camera. Ever since the end of the 19thcentury there have always been voices that decried the mass production of images inherent in new technological developments; this, however, has never stopped photographers from exploring the creative possibilities that the new devices may offer. It is mobile photography
now that has become the ground for such experimentation and recognition. We would like to contribute to this development by offering a platform for photographers to show how they make use of the creative potential in mobile photography. PH21 Gallery invites photographers to submit their work for a group exhibition themed Mobile. We are looking for submissions from all photographers who are interested in this practice and would like to share their work with a wider international audience through
the exposure of PH21 Gallery. The theme is broadly construed; the only constraint is that the images submitted must have been captured by mobile photographic devices (mobile phones or tablets).

Organization
Art is a powerful tool to evoke social change. Without uttering a single word, artists can enlighten, educate and affect change around the world. Since 2004, Embracing Our Differences has used the power of art and prose to promote diversity. One way we accomplish this is through our annual international art exhibition in Sarasota's Bayfront Park. The juried exhibit consists of 45 billboard-size images, each work of art is created by
local, national and international artists reflecting their interpretation of our theme "enriching lives through diversity and inclusion." Embracing Our Differences invites you to participate in creating a world where differences are embraced and individuality is celebrated. Become a part of this exciting change through your visual art submission to the annual Embracing Our Differences international juried competition. The winning artworks combine a deep understanding of both medium and message.
Awards are given for "Best-in-Show Adult," "Best-in-Show Student," and "People's Choice" categories, with the last chosen by visitors to the exhibit. Adult winners each receive $1,000; students receive $1,000 with $500 to be directed to the student and $500 to their school's art program, if they worked under the direction of an educator. The statements accompanying each artwork are also vital and provide insight into our common humanity—as well as the differences that make us all unique. In
2017, 212,000 people visited the exhibition—bringing the total amount of visitors to 2.5 million since 2004. The exhibit will be displayed from 1-19 through 3-14 in Sarasota's Bayfront Park.
