GRAND PRIZE Winner
Susan Duke Waters is our grand prize winner, receiving a $75 gift certificate to Jerry's Artarama. She lives in Rockmart, Georgia, USA, and was born in Bath, England. Artistic expression is a keystone of her life and a source of delight. She uses a variety media, working in oils, watercolor and acrylics as well as clay and papier mâché.
Recently, Waters has shifted emphasis to painting on location, working predominately with oils, feeling the plein air experience pushes the most authentic response to the subject and hones the ability to find and capture the essence of a scene. Read more about Susan and her work on her Artist of The Month Page: https://www.theartlist.com/aom_12_18.html
SECOND PLACE Winner
Steve Socha and his piece "Howrah Bridge" wins second place and $50 from Jerry's Artarama. Steve says about his work: "I use an overlay technique to represent a different vantage point on the built environment, one that merges multiple instances of the same object, incorporating the element of time. The images seem to find the average, mean, or essence of the subject, by emphasizing only the repetitive elements. Using more than 30 layers in each image, I aim to
capture an icon in the way people's memory works - a collection of various fleeting images recalled as one. The result displays a different way of viewing objects and scenes, one that incorporates the element of time and motion." See more at: https://www.overlayart.com/
THIRD PLACE Winner
Lauren Davies wins a $25 gift certificate to Jerry's Artarama as our third place winner. Lauren's work can be seen on her Instagram site at: https://www.instagram.com/kitzenkatzen/. She describes herself and her work as "Artist. Pencils and inks on paper."

DEADLINE DECEMBER 10, 2018
PH21 Gallery - Call for Entries: Feminine / Masculine
Calls for Submissions - Photography Photo Gallery
A curated international photography exhibition. January 17 – February 9, 2019. Portrayals of femininity and masculinity are, without doubt, central to a number of art forms, photography not being an exception. The past few decades have given rise to – often heated – discussions and criticisms of past, recent, and current photographic practices for their lack of reflection on the assumptions, stereotypes, and prejudices surrounding photographic approaches to femininity and masculinity. Fine
art and commercial works alike have been critiqued for the potential consequences of their approach and presentation. Historically femininity and masculinity have been conceived, among others, as oppositions, as complements of each other, or as positions on a continuum. There are hardly any ways of portraying femininity and masculinity that would or could not be considered trivial, conservative, pretentious, demeaning, distasteful, clichéd or even offensive by some. It often seems that
everything has been both said and photographed about this subject, and yet, it is not possible to ignore the persistence of the theme in our contemporary visual culture. What is it that we can still value and possibly revive from the rich history of photography; are there any novel ways left to approach this subject with a fresh critical eye? The theme is broadly construed, as the photographic portrayal of femininity and masculinity is independent of generic or stylistic constraints. Indeed, we
are interested in all possible creative photographic interpretations of the theme.
