Happy January from TheArtList
“It is good to love many things, for therein lies the true strength, and whosoever loves much
performs much, and can accomplish much, and what is done in love is well done.”
― Vincent Van Gogh
A new year. A new start! When we started TheArtList back in 2003, it was just a simple idea for a posting board, a way to connect artists and galleries. At that time, there was no Google, Facebook, social media, and most artists were slowly and perhaps reluctantly embracing putting their work online. Times have changed, and over the the last fifteen years, TheArtList has evolved into something much more than the original posting board. Yes, we still keep to our core
focus of posting high quality calls and connecting artists and galleries, but it is amazing to look back and see the thousands of artists and galleries who have used TheArtList as a platform to promote and connect. Now the art world is more engaged and connected than ever, and we are happy to still be playing a part.
So as we move forward to a new year, we wanted to take a minute to personally thank all of you who have supported TheArtList over the years. We know that there are many places online for galleries to promote their calls and for artists to look for calls to enter, and we appreciate your continued patronage! If you like what we do, please don't hesitate to tell others about TheArtList.
The New Year brings resolutions and new beginnings. Do you have any new artistic goals for 2019? Maybe a new medium to try, a new residency to apply to, or a new contest to enter?
If you are new to TheArtList, our monthly newsletter only showcases a small sample of featured listings. We have many more art & photo calls in the online database at www.theartlist.com, login to search for calls that match your interests.
Do you follow us on any of our social media pages? We post new calls several times a week - and occasionally some of them have a very short submission window. If you aren't following us on Facebook, Google+, Twitter,
or Pinterest, you might be missing some calls!
We are pleased that we are able to continue offering TheArtList.com premium membership at the low cost of $27 for 2019. Premium membership allows you to bypass the advertising, gives you full search capabilities and gives you the full contact information for all calls.. Your support helps keep TheArtList going! Upgrading is as simple as clicking on the Upgrade link in your member area.
Here's to a happy and creative start to the New Year!

DEADLINE JANUARY 14, 2019
A Color Moment, Arthur Meyerson, juror
Calls for Submissions - Photography Photo Gallery
A successful color photograph finds color as an essential element. Without color, the impact of the image would be significantly reduced. When used well, color coalesces with the other elements of the image to create an atmosphere, an emotional response, a sense of place. Effective use of color can take your breath away, zing your eyes, grab your heart, and celebrate light. The photographs in this exhibit will be chosen less for technique and more for the pure passion captured in a moment
in which color is a key element. Open to all photographers. To encourage international participation, we offer free matting and framing to all exhibitors for the duration of the exhibit. $35 for up to 5 images, $6 each additional. We are very pleased that Arthur Meyerson will jury and curate this exhibition. He will select approximately 35 images for exhibition in the gallery, and 35 for our Online Gallery Annex. The recipients of the Juror’s Award and the Director’s Award will each be entitled
to a personal portfolio review by Mr. Meyerson. All 75 selected images will be reproduced in the exhibition print catalog and remain permanently on our website, with links to photographer’s URL. Gallery exhibition March 7 through April 6, 2019.

DEADLINE JANUARY 14, 2019
PH21 Gallery - Call for Entries: Urban
Calls for Submissions - Photography Photo Gallery
A curated international photography exhibition. February 14 – March 9, 2019. Urban spaces have always been significant sources of inspiration for photographers for a very good reason; the dwelling places of much of humanity provide intensified experiences of how we shape our environment and how we live in the environment we create for ourselves. Cities offer a bounty of visual stimuli for the eye and the camera to catch. The structural beauty of the still lines and shapes of the buildings
and streets provide for exciting compositions. The ever-changing swirl of the streets challenges us to capture precious passing moments. Urban life shows an entirely different face during the day and with the lights on at night. There are endless ways of portraying the life of the inhabitants of cities, endless ways for photographers to construct their unique interpretations of what urban environments mean for them. PH21 Gallery invites photographers to submit their work for a group exhibition
themed Urban. We are looking for submissions from all photographers who are interested in this subject and would like to share their work with a wider international audience through the exposure of PH21 Gallery. The theme is broadly construed; urban environments may be portrayed visually on personal or social levels, from cityscapes to street photography, from documentary works to abstract compositions as well. We are interested in all possible creative photographic interpretations of the
theme.

Movement
Contests, Juried Art Shows - Acrylic, Ceramics, Digital Media, Fiber, Glass, Mosaic, Drawing/Illustration, Jewelry, Mixed media, Metalsmithing, Sculpture, Oil, Pastel, Photography, Watercolor Art Gallery
For this show make movement the focus of your piece. A sense of movement is a key aspect of compelling art. Even depictions of static subjects can pull us into their worlds with a strong or pleasing sense of movement between their compositional elements. Great art has the ability to transport us to a new location in some sense; our appreciation of it leaves us in a different place from where we started. Whether it’s abstract or purely representational, and whatever the medium, we’re taking
a look at art that exemplifies movement. Join us for our February exhibition as we consider movement in all its many forms. Please include an artist statement with your piece.

DEADLINE FEBRUARY 24, 2019 - $3000 in Awards
WIDE OPEN 10 – Call for Submissions - National Juried Art Show
Calls for Submissions - Acrylic, Digital Media, Glass, Mosaic, Drawing/Illustration, Mixed media, Sculpture, Oil, Pastel, Photography, Watercolor Art Organization
We are excited to announce our tenth annual national juried art show, WIDE OPEN 10, opening May 11, 2019. Our juror is Ylinka Barotto, Assistant Curator at the Guggenheim Museum. $3000 in cash prizes will be awarded, including $1000 Best in Show. The exhibit runs May 11 – July 7, 2019. Ours is a truly unique gallery – a massive Civil War-era warehouse on the Red Hook waterfront in Brooklyn, NY. Its enormous space affords us the opportunity to exhibit really huge work, and we welcome it.
BWAC’s curators will be using 8,000 square feet for this show, and look forward to exhibiting artist’s work from all around the country, work in all sizes, and subjects, and media, (it’s completely wide open). The broad theme of WIDE OPEN 10 encompasses all the possibilities of knowledge and freedom and love - wide open spaces…arms wide open…eyes wide open - but as with all things, there is the inevitable opposite - wide open to attack…corruption…failure. What kind of fantasy is this? What does
it really indicate? This juried show looks to explore the idea of “wide open” in all the hidden niches of our collective psyche. This call for submissions is open to all residents of the U.S. and its Territories 18 years of age or older. This is a juried exhibition for artists working in all traditional and non-traditional 2-D and 3-D media, including film/video when part of an installation. All artwork must be original in concept, design and execution. All work should be non-utilitarian in
nature. This is a fine art exhibition. Early Bird discount through Februrary 4, 2019.
