VIEWER'S CHOICE
Julia Olson is recognized with an honorable mention as our Viewer's Choice Awards. Julia Olson makes paintings and drawings, exploring portraiture and embodiment.
Living abroad, her paintings are characterized by a sense of place and beings from an internal gaze in which connection plays an important role. By contesting the division between herself and “the other,” she investigates the dynamics and beauty of underlying kinships.
Her creative practice explores the pictorial space in an ontological exchange with another embodied being. The gaze acts as a magnifying lens to intuitive truths, human connection, and eternalized moments. Her body of work is multicultural, unified by human connection.
Previously a resident of Saudi Arabia, Julia Olson now lives in Mexico. You can see more of Julia's artwork at her website: h ttps://juliaolsonart.com

DEADLINE MARCH 08, 2019
Vision: Shadow and Light
Contests, Juried Art Shows - Photography Art Gallery
Photography is the recording of patterns of darkness and light. Shadows enhance the relationships of subjects in an image, they give definition and dimension, which compliments the quality of the light values. Photographers have used dramatic shadows and patterns in black and white images and have also explored using ethereal and moody shadows and textures in color photography. We will be looking for a range of how shadow and light are interpreted by contemporary photographers.

DEADLINE MARCH 11, 2019
PH21 Gallery - Call for Entries: Stories
Calls for Submissions - Photography Photo Gallery
A curated international photography exhibition.April 11 – May 4, 2019. While photography is popularly associated with capturing the moment, it has always been a sensitive medium of storytelling as well. Looking at a photograph may allow for understanding much about the past that has led up to the moment frozen in time; it may also enable the viewer to imagine the possible future unfolding of events that may evolve from the still record of the here and now. Photographers portraying people,
objects, and places can tell us inspiring stories, provided we take the time to study and interpret the images. A narrative told in a single photograph is an exciting challenge for both photographer and viewer alike. Hopefully we appreciate these works with the care and curiosity they deserve. Encouraged by the success of our previous Stories exhibitions, this year PH21 Gallery invites photographers again to submit their work for our annual group exhibition themed Stories. We are looking for
submissions from all photographers who think that their work is telling a story and would like to share it with a wider international audience through the exposure of PH21 Gallery. The theme is broadly construed; it may be expressed visually on personal or social levels, literally or in abstract, symbolic ways. Stories can be told about persons, communities, objects, and places as well. Indeed, we are interested in all possible creative photographic interpretations of the theme.

DEADLINE MARCH 17, 2019 - $4000 in Awards
NYC4PA Call for Entry MOMENTUM
Online Event - Calls for Submissions - Photography Art Organization
Though a photograph is a snapshot in time, the world around us is in constant motion. This call is not about "still life", "landscape", or "posed portrait" images. It is about how you capture the idea of motion/momentum in a single frame; photographs that clearly send a message to the viewer that the subject or the camera/lens is moving. Is the position of the subject the indication - a wave arched to crash, or a ballerina in mid air? Or is it the subject or background blurred as in a
speeding train you have panned with background buildings a blur? Examples are everywhere - the silky vision of water over a waterfall taken at a slow shutter speed, water droplets frozen in time, trees bent in blowing wind, ripples of a boat's wake, fireworks. Sports, transportation and animals each afford a huge number of possibilities and, of course, there are endless ways camera and zoom action can draw the viewers eye.

DEADLINE MARCH 28, 2019 - $400 in Awards
Urban, Suburban & Rural call for entries
Calls for Submissions - Acrylic, Ceramics, Digital Media, Fiber, Glass, Mosaic, Mixed media, Metalsmithing, Sculpture, Oil, Pastel, Photography, Watercolor Art Gallery
All-media 2-D and 3-D. National juried exhibit. Juror, Joey P. Manlapaz. Cash awards. Representing a theme with art media can be a journey into creative thinking in a different direction, or the art already exists and it is an “ah hah” experience of already having the perfect match for a theme. The theme can be broadly interpreted in a drawing, painting, print, photo, sculpture or other media that incorporates an image or abstract design that references the theme in a visual
image—literally, metaphorically or symbolically. The theme should encourage artists to be innovative and to discover other ideas in the use, presentation or technique of choice. We are surrounded by art in its many forms in our daily lives, and we create images in our art. Consider a theme and run with it in a direction that will surprise, delight and engage the viewer. Does that help without limiting ideas?

DEADLINE MAY 15, 2019 - $10000 in Awards
2019 Dorothea Lange-Paul Taylor Prize
Online Event - Calls for Submissions - Digital Media, Drawing/Illustration, Mixed media, Photography, Video/Film Art Organization
A prize of $10,000 is given annually by the Center for Documentary Studies at Duke University to support documentary artists, working alone or in teams, who are involved in extended, on-going fieldwork projects that rely on and exploit the interplay of words and images. The winner's work will also be published in the Center for Documentary Studies' digital publications and placed in the Archive of Documentary Arts at the Rubenstein Library at Duke University. Competitive applicants to this
prize have a point of view derived from an in-depth understanding of place, history, and the current situation, in concert with a personal relationship to the proposed work. Ultimately, their commitment is to use documentary expression to motivate the thinking and reflection of others. A panel of writers, editors, and documentary artists will judge. Using the online submission system, submit up to 19 images, 15 pages of double-spaced writing, and/or 10 minutes of time-based media. Applicants
must also submit a one-page project description, and a curriculum vitae with a $70 entry fee by May 15. Visit the website for complete guidelines.
