She completed her art training at Academy of Realist Art in Toronto where she learned the classical
realist techniques of drawing and painting while continuing throughout the years to paint a la prima portraits. Iulia wins a $25 gift certificate to Jerry's Artarama. Iulia says "I see myself as a realist figurative artist; I use direct painting or classical approach, hoping that the technique I choose will reflect my interaction with each person I portray. " You can see more of her her paintings at her website: https://iuliastoianfineart.com/
Viewer's Choice Award
Paper artist, Elizabeth St. Hilaire is this month's Viewer's Choice Award winner. She says "My love of collage started with a scrap box of mementos from my childhood. These small sentimental pieces of my past came from my father, who rescued them from the attic years ago. Stuffing these tidbits into a box beneath my bed seemed anticlimactic. I remember standing there, after my father left, looking at the hospital bill from my birth,
my Mom’s nursing school graduation cards from 1967, and thinking what should I do with this? I decided to find a way to incorporate these memorable papers, notes and snippets of my family’s past into something both memorable and beautiful. Thus was born a representational collage “painting.” "This piece, Looking in on Jane (a portrait of my mother), has won several awards and thus a career was born. DEADLINE MAY 04, 2019 - $450 in Awards
New Horizons: Landscapes, 2nd Annual
Contests, Juried Art Shows - Acrylic, Digital Media, Fiber, Drawing/Illustration, Mixed media, Metalsmithing, Sculpture, Oil, Pastel, Photography, Watercolor, Video/Film Art Gallery
New Horizons: Landscapes, 2nd Annual Exhibition. Landscapes are one of the long-time subjects for artists taking in the beauty of their surroundings and representing what they see. But how has it changed in recent times? What new connections to our surroundings will be found or lost? The landscapes around us are dramatically changing as well as our relation to nature. Furthermore, will we see landscapes as mere replications or photographs or can we apply color, light, design and texture to
represent the larger essence of what we see or experience. Just as impressionism, then cubism radically changed our perception of landscape art, what new interpretations are present today? We would like to see large as well as small formats. Broad strokes, fresh outlooks, meaningful dialogs, colorful blends or a monochromatic study... What's on the horizon for new landscape work? We are looking for all types of works--painting, sculpture, photography and more--works that show off vision for
landscape artwork. Small and large formats. Give viewers and collectors a chance to see the beauty of your landscape... The main criteria for selection is creativity and fresh approaches in the artwork.

FRAYED: Fiber Beyond Craft
Contests, Juried Art Shows - Acrylic, Crafts, Fiber, Graphic Design, Mixed media, Sculpture, Oil, Photography, Watercolor, Video/Film Art Gallery
JURIED BY ARTIST JADE YUMANG --------- Exhibit Dates JUNE 26 - JULY 20 2019. Fiber works--from embroidery, stitching and sewing, to weaving and felting—have, throughout history, been relegated to the genre of craft and to ‘women’s work.’ Since the late sixties and early seventies, however, the women’s movement has broken through that pigeonhole, as many talented artists turned to Fiber as a form of expression that extended way beyond Craft. As ARC calls for work that uses Fiber as a
seminal aspect of expression, we look to further "fray" the boundaries of this evocative medium. With arms open, we welcome artists of all gender orientations to apply to the juried show entitled "FRAYED: Fiber Beyond Craft." 3 Jurors awards of $100.00 each.

DEADLINE MAY 13, 2019
PH21 Gallery - Call for Entries: Monochrome
Calls for Submissions - Photography Photo Gallery
A curated international photography exhibition.June 6 – 29, 2019. Monochrome photography is usually associated with black and white images. However, in the history of photography other hues, such as sepia and cyan were also used, and today there are countless examples of monochromatic images whose photographic qualities are based on the tonal range of various other colours. While monochromacity used to be a technological limitation for a long time, today it is more of an artistic choice.
Photographers may opt for working with the shades of just one colour for compositional reasons or for reasons related to the expressive content of their images, and therefore their decision is to be interpreted. Our appreciation of contemporary monochromatic images is also rooted in the knowledge that the lack of colour range is significant and meaningful, not merely a technological limitation. PH21 Gallery invites photographers to submit their work for a group exhibition themed Monochrome. We
are looking for submissions from all photographers who create black and white or other monochromatic images and would like to share their work with a wider international audience through the exposure of PH21 Gallery. We welcome submissions from all photographic genres, including abstract compositions. We are interested in all possible creative photographic interpretations of the theme.

DEADLINE JUNE 03, 2019
PH21 Gallery - Call for Entries: Portraits Without Faces
Calls for Submissions - Photography Photo Gallery
A curated international photography exhibition.July 4 – 27, 2019. Portraiture emerged as one of the most prominent genres of depictive media early in the history of the visual arts; tacit or explicit rules, conventions and cultural expectations have always influenced the ways in which artists approached the genre. Photography is no exception. Numerous different and characteristic styles of portraiture emerged throughout the history of the medium. We usually assume that faces are necessary
components of portraiture; we may, however, learn just as much about the character, the personality of a person by looking at images that depict other parts of their bodies, show us the objects or places associated with them. Not focusing on the face may open up a new dimension of interpretation. Our Portraits Without Faces exhibition is dedicated to this challenging divergence from the more conventional approaches to the genre. Encouraged by the creative responses we received last year, PH21
Gallery invites photographers again to submit their work for a group exhibition themed Portraits Without Faces. We are looking for submissions from all photographers who are interested in this theme, and who would like to share their work with a wider international audience through the exposure of PH21 Gallery. The theme is broadly construed; submissions of all kinds of portraits without faces are welcome. Indeed, we are interested in all possible creative photographic interpretations of the
theme.
