He received his secondary teaching credential from Mt. Saint Mary's College in Los Angeles. He has been teaching Advanced Placement Art History and other art courses

SECOND PLACE
Dr. Boris Shpeizman wins $50 to Jerry's Artarama with his amazing "Lollipop Bike." He says about his work: When I was a little boy, I dreamed to get a motorcycle. Not just a motorcycle, not simply beautiful, but one that comes with a status. When I grew up, I could afford to buy such a bike. But then I realized that keeping a dream is much more interesting. My new, shiny, fragile, glass bike is a dream come true that I can
actually hold in my hands.
The sculpture is made of more than 100 pieces of hand blown glass. It took me about 2 years to make. I plan it to be a first work in a series “Rise of a Lollipop."
Boris was born and grew up in St. Petersburg (aka Leningrad), USSR. At age of 17, he started Dentistry School, and subsequently emigrated to Israel. Read more about Boris's interesting life at current work at his website: http://www.hotglassnews.com
THIRD PLACE
Third Place Winner, Leona Dadian Akers wins $25 to Jerry's Artarama. She says: "When I paint, I start out with one idea, and let the paint and moment in time take over, working to bring out the beauty that I see in my mind's eye. I very often look back at a painting and am surprized the richness, the intricacy of the colors, and the way it all comes together to produce a work that is pleasing to me. My goal is to
paint pictures that move me. If I succeed at doing that, then I am fulfilled." You can see more of her artwork at: http://leonadadian.fineartstudioonline.com
VIEWER'S CHOICE
David Cal Lawrence was chosen by the audience as the Viewer's Choice winner. He is an Award winning Registered Choctaw Artist living in Oklahoma. He handles all subjects and all mediums, his work can be seen at numerous places in and around the Great Choctaw Nation. He loves to break the norm by painting on maps and using mediums such as coffee and plants he turns into paint.
He loves all styles of painting from abstract to portraits. He has had lots of art shows, including the "IKBI" Heritage Hall of Fame show representing his Choctaw tribe. You can follow him on Instagram @ kingdavid1965 or visit his website where he post weekly updates and new works: https://artsphere.me/artist/David-Lawrence~3008.

Submit your work for the 2019 Portal: Governors Island (formerly Governors Island Art Fair) opening this September. Portal: GI - New York’s largest independent exhibition - will once again feature scores of artists of exceptional talent, and each will be awarded an
exhibition room or large outdoor space in the historic and beautifully dilapidated buildings of Colonels Row. The lines between artwork and its environment are blurred across the lawns and landmark houses of bucolic Governors Island. Founded by 4heads, a group of New York artists, Portal: GI champions an art fair model that puts the artists first. Once selected by 4heads jury, your exhibition space is free. The entire massive event is free to the general public. And as an emerging or established
artist, you are free to present your work, your way, at this acclaimed independent art fair in New York City. Because 4heads works hard to keep artists’ costs to a bare minimum, gallery scouts, journalists and collectors know that this is where to find the freshest talent, and they come back every year to see what’s been discovered. Many past Portal/GIAF artists have launched their art careers here. We hope you can too. - 4heads. Heads up! - 4heads is specifically seeking outdoor artists working

DEADLINE JUNE 24, 2019
PH21 Gallery - Call for Entries: Significant Colour
Calls for Submissions - Photography Photo Gallery
A curated international photography exhibition.August 1 – 24, 2019. There are two kinds of photographs with respect to the significance of their use of colours. On the one hand, ever since colour film technology became widely available, colour has become the default in most photographic practices. That is, some photographs are in colour not because their colours bear some special significance (compared, for instance, to their possible black and white counterparts) but simply because the
available film or digital technology has long turned colour to be the common method of capturing photographic images. We may think of these photographs as colour by default. On the other hand, colours are often central to the meaning of photographs for their emphatic, symbolic, psychological, social, compositional, etc. significance. These photographs would not work in black and white the same way or they would not work at all; that they are in colour is not merely a technological given, rather,
it is an integral, formative and significant aspect of their photographic meaning. We may think of these photographs as colour by significance. PH21 Gallery invites photographers to submit their work for a group exhibition themed Significant Colour. We are looking for submissions from all photographers who are interested in the significance of any colour in photography and would like to share their work with a wider international audience through the exposure of PH21 Gallery. The theme is
broadly construed, as the significance of colours is independent of generic or stylistic constraints. We are interested in all possible creative interpretations.
