Happy March from TheArtList!
“To be creative means to be in love with life. You can be creative only if you love life enough
that you want to enhance its beauty, you want to bring a little more music to it,
a little more poetry to it, a little more dance to it.” Osho
For many parts of the US, March surely has come in like a lion. One advantage to inclement weather is having more dedicated time to stay home or the studio to focus on your art. Spring is also always a bustling time for galleries and lots of art and photo calls are being submitted to TheArtList. Please remember that we are only able to showcase a small number of calls in the monthly newsletter, so be sure to check the online database on our website www.theartlist.com. You can login to search for calls that match your interests.
Do you follow us on any of our social media pages? We post new calls several times a week - and occasionally some of them have a very short submission window. If you aren't following us on Facebook, Twitter, or Pinterest, you might be missing some calls!
Wishing you a fantastic and creative March.
GRAND PRIZE WINNER:
Heidi Barnett is the March Artist of the Month with her painting: Red Fox. Heidi employs and the emotive expression of her work that captivates audiences. Organic Pointillism, her paintings draw on many influences including those of nineteenth- and twentieth-century artists as diverse as Monet, Seurat, Van Gogh, Klimt, and Pollock. While finding inspiration from her artistic forbearers, her compositions forge a distinctly new path in the art world. See more of her work and
read her AOM interview at: https://www.theartlist.com/aom_03_20.html
SECOND PLACE WINNER:
Wayne D. King’s images are a celebration of life in those cultural moments, blending the real and the surreal to achieve a sense of place or time that reaches beyond the moment into a dreamlike quintessentialism designed to spark an emotional response - but most importantly an understanding. . . Of the joy, the journey, the moment. Using digital enhancement, handcrafting, painting, and sometimes even straight photography, King seeks to take the viewer to a place that is beyond simple truth
to where truth meets passion, hope and dreams. Visit Wayne's website to see more of his work at: https://waynedking.com/
THIRD PLACE WINNER:
Tracy Frein is a Chicago based award winning Colored Pencil artist with over 15 years experience. After discovering Colored Pencil and winning his first show he has never wavered from the medium. He models his portraiture in tones of black and white on drafting film. Each value is stripped away from the surface with an eraser to expose the hidden layers as he retains a textured surface. His process could called “Drawing by Subtraction”. Visit Tracy's website to see more of her work
at: https://tracyfrein.faso.com
VIEWER'S CHOICE WINNER:
Our viewer's choice winner is Olesya Sytnbyk. Creating pictures leads me to the perfect world, where I share through colors my inner world, my mood and thoughts. My disability doesn't prevent me from the artistic practice, though make it a challenge. I consider painting as the special therapy - while I paint, I forgot about my health problems and sometimes doing the art, works like pain killer or stress relief for me.You can see more of her work at: https://olesyas-art.com

DEADLINE MARCH 09, 2020
PH21 Gallery - Call for Entries: Stories
Calls for Submissions - Photography Photo Gallery
A curated international photography exhibition. April 9 – 29, 2020, Main Gallery. While photography is popularly associated with capturing the moment, it has always been a sensitive medium of storytelling as well. Looking at a photograph may allow for understanding much about the past that has led up to the moment frozen in time; it may also enable the viewer to imagine the possible future unfolding of events that may evolve from the still record of the here and now. Photographers
portraying people, objects, and places can tell us inspiring stories, provided we take the time to study and interpret the images. A narrative told in a single photograph is an exciting challenge for both photographer and viewer alike. Hopefully we appreciate these works with the care and curiosity they deserve. Encouraged by the success of our previous Stories exhibitions, this year PH21 Gallery invites photographers again to submit their work for our annual group exhibition themed Stories. We
are looking for submissions from all photographers who think that their work is telling a story and would like to share it with a wider international audience through the exposure of PH21 Gallery. The theme is broadly construed; it may be expressed visually on personal or social levels, literally or in abstract, symbolic ways. Stories can be told about persons, communities, objects, and places as well. Indeed, we are interested in all possible creative photographic interpretations of the
theme.

DEADLINE MARCH 16, 2020 - $525 in Awards
New Horizons: Landscapes 2020
Contests, Juried Art Shows - Acrylic, Ceramics, Digital Media, Fiber, Glass, Mosaic, Graphic Design, Drawing/Illustration, Mixed media, Metalsmithing, Sculpture, Oil, Pastel, Photography, Watercolor Art Gallery
New Horizons: Landscapes 2020, 3rd Annual Exhibition. Landscapes are one of the long-time subjects for artists taking in the beauty of their surroundings and representing what they see. But how has it changed in recent times? What new connections to our surroundings will be found or lost? The landscapes around us are dramatically changing as well as our relation to nature. Furthermore, will we see landscapes as mere replications or photographs or can we apply color, light, design and
texture to represent the larger essence of what we see or experience. Just as impressionism, then cubism radically changed our perception of landscape art, what new interpretations are present today? We would like to see large as well as small formats. Broad strokes, fresh outlooks, meaningful dialogs, new expressions, colorful blends or a monochromatic study... What's on the horizon for new landscape work? What’s your beautiful, passionate, gutsy, lost, longing, threatened, powerful, dynamic
responses for the contemporary landscape? We are looking for all types of works--painting, sculpture, photography and more--works that show off vision for landscape artwork. Small and large formats. Give viewers and collectors a chance to see the beauty of your landscape... The main criteria for selection is creativity and fresh approaches in the artwork. Juror: Mary Jane Edwards, Executive Director of the Jentel Foundation
