Happy November from TheArtList!
"Creativity is allowing yourself to make mistakes. Art is knowing which ones to keep." - Scott Adams
For those of us in the United States, November is a time of Thanksgiving. Here at TheArtList, we are thankful for the thousands of artists, photographers, galleries, and everyone else who has been a part of TheArtList community for all these years. Your support is what keeps us motivated and inspired every day, especially in these tough times of global pandemics, political contention, and economic uncertainty. In the end, Art gives us hope and
creativity and the will to keep moving forward and bring people together. Never stop creating.
Each month we host a free Artist of the Month contest (see below). This gives us a chance to see all the talented and inspiring members of our community. This month, we are thrilled to recognize a few fantastic artists who submitted their work to our monthly art contest: 1st Place: Sandi J Ludescher, 2nd Place: Larry Seymour, 3rd
Place: Claire Osborne, and most audience votes Viewer's Choice: Ashwini Temghare
Do you follow us on any of our social media pages? We post new calls several times a week - and occasionally some of them have a very short submission window. If you aren't following us on Facebook, Twitter, or Pinterest, you might be missing some calls!
Please note that we are only able to showcase a small number of calls in the monthly newsletter, so be sure to check our website www.theartlist.com. You can login to search for calls that match your interests.
Wishing you a fantastic and creative November.
ARTIST OF THE MONTH WINNER:
Sandi J Ludescher is a contemporary New Mexican regionalist painter. Her life and work is about celebration. Her work highlights the distinctness and sometimes quirkiness which is part of the New Mexican fingerprint, yet has a much wider appeal. Exhibition credits include Farmington (NM) Museum and “Voices Against Racism,” Canada, as well as six solo shows and many awards. Her artwork is collected globally and featured in calendars, journals, magazines and private collections.
SECOND PLACE WINNER:
Larry Seymour has always had a love of art and animals. After two trips to Africa Larry has concentrated this subject matter to mostly the incredible animals that exist on this fabulous continent. Larry works in both watercolor and graphite, giving the collector several choices in purchasing his work. Larry has worked with both Robert Bateman and Carl Brenders, whom he feels is his greatest influence. Larry has over fifty limited edition prints with more planned for the future.
THIRD PLACE WINNER:
Claire Osborne. It was as an adult that Claire Osborne first discovered watercolor paintings and was instantly captivated by the unique beauty of this gorgeous but mercurial medium. For Claire, nothing can come close. She started her own painting journey, largely self-taught, in 2011. The incredible challenge and inherent frustrations of mastering this medium caused her to quit and re-start many times, until finally in early 2015 she committed in earnest to becoming a
watercolorist.
VIEWER'S CHOICE WINNER:
Ashwini Temghare was born in India and currently resides in Houston, Texas. Ashwini is a self-taught artist who likes to experiment with different mediums of art. Mandala is her strongest area of work where attention to detail is required. Her artwork is unique but also aesthetically realistic.

DEADLINE DECEMBER 21, 2020
PH21 Gallery - Call for Entries: Feminine / Masculine
Calls for Submissions - Photography Photo Gallery
A curated international photography exhibition. February 11 – March 6, 2021. Portrayals of femininity and masculinity are, without doubt, central to a number of art forms, photography not being an exception. The past few decades have given rise to – often heated – discussions and criticisms of past, recent, and current photographic practices for their lack of reflection on the assumptions, stereotypes, and prejudices surrounding photographic approaches to femininity and masculinity. Fine
art and commercial works alike have been critiqued for the potential consequences of their approach and presentation. Historically femininity and masculinity have been conceived, among others, as oppositions, as complements of each other, or as positions on a continuum. There are hardly any ways of portraying femininity and masculinity that would or could not be considered trivial, conservative, pretentious, demeaning, distasteful, clichéd or even offensive by some. It often seems that
everything has been both said and photographed about this subject, and yet, it is not possible to ignore the persistence of the theme in our contemporary visual culture. What is it that we can still value and possibly revive from the rich history of photography; are there any novel ways left to approach this subject with a fresh critical eye? PH21 Gallery invites photographers to submit their work for a group exhibition themed Feminine / Masculine. We are looking for submissions from all
photographers who are interested in this subject and would like to share their work with a wider international audience through the exposure of PH21 Gallery.
