🍀 Happy March from TheArtList! 🍀
"Art evokes the mystery without which the world would not exist." - Rene Magritte
For many parts of the US, February and March surely has come in like a lion. One advantage to inclement weather is having more time to stay home and focus on your art. Spring is also always a bustling time for galleries and we are seeing a resurgence with lots of art and photo calls are being submitted to TheArtList.
Please note that we are only able to showcase a small number of calls in the monthly newsletter, so be sure to check our new website www.theartlist.com. You can login to search for calls that match your interests.
Do you follow us on any of our social media pages? We post new calls several times a week - and occasionally some of them have a very short submission window. If you aren't following us on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, or Pinterest, you might be missing some calls!
Wishing you a fantastic and creative spring.
ARTIST OF THE MONTH WINNER

Heidi Brueckner is a Professor of Art at West Valley College in Saratoga, California where she has taught painting, drawing, and design for over 20 years. A native Californian, Brueckner studied at the University of Heidelberg and The Goethe Institute in Germany in the late 1980s. During this pivotal year, she was able to visit the major museums of Europe and found herself heavily influenced artistically by 20th century German art. Visit Heidi's website to see more of her work: https://www.heidibrueckner.com/
THIRD PLACE WINNER
Judy Gilmer has been making art since she was a child, and after an introduction to collage and acrylics, the world of possibilities opened up for her as she began painting watercolors in 1995. Judy loves working in many mediums including creating sculptures. Her challenge is to push her paintings and creations past preconceived boundaries. Visit Judy's website to see more of her work: https://www.judygilmer.com
VIEWER'S CHOICE WINNER
Rain Longson enjoys contemporary realism and it is the style she uses the most. Some people have thought that her art was a photograph until a close examination shows the brush strokes. She sometimes uses a magnifying glass to work on the mouth, nose, and eyes of her subjects. Rain's paintings are usually acrylic on canvas, but she also enjoy inks, watercolours, and graphite on many different types of paper. You can see more of Rain's work at: http://rainlongson.com

DEADLINE March 08, 2021
PH21 Gallery - Call for Entries: Stories: Narrative Photography
A curated international photography exhibition. May 6 – 29, 2021. While photography is popularly associated with capturing the moment, it has always been a sensitive medium of storytelling as well. Looking at a photograph may allow for understanding much about the past that has led up to the moment frozen in time; it may also enable the viewer to imagine the possible future unfolding of events that may evolve from the still record of the here and now. Photographers portraying people,
objects, and places can tell us inspiring stories, provided we take the time to study and interpret the images. A narrative told in a single photograph is an exciting challenge for both photographer and viewer alike. Hopefully we appreciate these works with the care and curiosity they deserve. Encouraged by the success of our previous Stories exhibitions, this year PH21 Gallery invites photographers again to submit their work for our annual group exhibition themed Stories: Narrative Photography.
We are looking for submissions from all photographers who think that their work is telling a story and would like to share it with a wider international audience through the exposure of PH21 Gallery. The theme is broadly construed; it may be expressed visually on personal or social levels, literally or in abstract, symbolic ways. Stories can be told about persons, communities, objects, and places as well. Indeed, we are interested in all possible creative photographic interpretations of the
theme.

DEADLINE March 19, 2021
New Horizons: Landscapes 2021, 4th Annual Exhibition
Landscapes are one of the long-time subjects for artists taking in the beauty of their surroundings and representing what they see. But how has it changed in recent times? What new connections to our surroundings will be found or lost? The landscapes around us are dramatically changing as well as our relation to nature. Furthermore, will we see landscapes as mere replications or photographs or can we apply color, light, design and texture to represent the larger essence of what we see or
experience. Just as impressionism, then cubism radically changed our perception of landscape art, what new interpretations are present today? We would like to see large as well as small formats. Broad strokes, fresh outlooks, meaningful dialogs, colorful blends or a monochromatic study... What's on the horizon for new landscape work? Exhibit Date: Friday, April 23, 2021 – Friday, May 21, 2021 Deadline for Submission: Friday, March 19, 2021 Midnight Media Type: All Media Juror: 3SA Jury Members

DEADLINE April 05, 2021
PH21 Gallery - Call for Entries: Monochrome 2021
A curated international photography exhibition. June 3 – 26, 2021. Monochrome photography is usually associated with black and white images. However, in the history of photography other hues, such as sepia and cyan were also used, and today there are countless examples of monochromatic images whose photographic qualities are based on the tonal range of various other colours. While monochromacity used to be a technological limitation for a long time, today it is more of an artistic choice.
Photographers may opt for working with the shades of just one colour for compositional reasons or for reasons related to the expressive content of their images, and therefore their decision is to be interpreted. Our appreciation of contemporary monochromatic images is also rooted in the knowledge that the lack of colour range is significant and meaningful, not merely a technological limitation. PH21 Gallery invites photographers to submit their work for a group exhibition themed Monochrome. We
are looking for submissions from all photographers who create black and white or other monochromatic images and would like to share their work with a wider international audience through the exposure of PH21 Gallery. We welcome submissions from all photographic genres, including abstract compositions. We are interested in all possible creative photographic interpretations of the theme.

DEADLINE May 03, 2021
PH21 Gallery - Call for Entries: Bodyscapes
A curated international photography exhibition. July 1 – July 24, 2021. The human body, in full or in part, is often in the focus of various photographic genres. From documentary, event and street photography to fashion photography and the nude, photographers have always found ways of constructing images in which the specific portrayal of the human body gains significance. This may be stemming from the rich layers of meanings determined and shaped by the specific socio-cultural context of
the image, the visual interaction of the human body with the surrounding physical space, or the intriguing compositional possibilities offered by the body itself. When focussing on the body, some photographers explore movements, study expressive gestures and postures, or concentrate on the beauty and details of the human anatomy. Some narrate whole life stories through the depiction of the human body. Others may offer stern visual criticism of our normative conceptions of the human body and its
mainstream representation in Western media. PH21 Gallery invites photographers to submit their work for a group exhibition themed Bodyscapes. We are looking for submissions from all photographers who are interested in this subject, and who would like to share their work with a wider international audience through the exposure of PH21 Gallery. The theme is broadly construed without any photographic genre restrictions. Indeed, we are interested in all possible creative photographic interpretations
of the theme.
