DEADLINE: August 30, 2021
PH21 Gallery – Call for Entries: Shape @ Rome
A PH21 Gallery exhibit in Rome, Italy. Shapes are one of the most important aspects of creative photographic compositions. Living beings and inanimate objects, including the built environment come in many forms, and photographers often rely on the creative possibilities offered by their shape. While in some cases the images of things only have a depictive function, at the other end of the spectrum abstract photography concentrates on shapes and forms for their own sake up to a point when
we can no longer recognise the depicted objects themselves. Between being either insignificant or the only significant element, the shape of recognisable forms may also be the driving compositional component of an image. That is, the shape of living beings and objects may be of central importance to the composition of photographs not only in abstract photography but also in virtually all other photographic genres. These images capture our attention and stand out for their creative compositional
form.

National Women's Caucus for Art - Occupy The Moment, Intersect History with Impact
Occupy the Moment, Intersect History with Impact - In the last half century, the art historical canon has been uprooted and redefined. The canon was erected on categorized colonial narratives and invented racial rankings. The WCA has cast aside this “white male gaze” to define our own vision. This National WCA 50th Anniversary exhibition is seeking artistic works that address this moment of 2022. Artists are encouraged to interpret the theme broadly, considering the multiple paths of how
we arrived here and what we envision moving forward. We encourage art that explores the ways that our identities and expressions intersect with such factors as environment, culture, time, and location. Artwork can be in any approach and form, subjects may range from the historic precedents set by political activism, to personal transformation, social engagement and beyond. JUROR: Dr. Maura Reilly, Founding Curator of the Elizabeth A. Sackler Center for Feminist Art at the Brooklyn Museum.

PH21 Gallery presents: Dis/harmony – A Curated International Photography Exhibition
Harmony is an elusive, perhaps even ineffable aspect of photographic images. So is disharmony, its possibly disturbing, but often stimulating opposite. Although many photographers share the view that the communicative impact of images is enhanced by their harmony, there are countless individual artistic interpretations of what makes an image harmonious or disharmonious. Some consider harmony primarily as a visual compositional feature of photographs, also allowing for the unusual, for the
unexpected, or even for the disturbing when it comes to compositional harmony or disharmony. For many others, harmony is also a thematic concept, and they find harmonious elements in the communicative content of the image, arising from the various interactions depicted in the photograph. The intentional lack of harmony may also lead to most creative photographic compositions. All photographic genres use the elements of composition to create the sense of harmony or its opposite.
