Like humans, bugs are everywhere! And this month
1650 Gallery is taking a photographic journey into the mysterious world
of the insect. Some are cute and cuddly, like the furry caterpillar.
While some are fierce and scary, wearing their skeletons on the outside
to frighten us. Some are artistic and majestic like the beautiful
butterfly. And some are just downright romantic, like the firefly on a
warm summer evening. So forget the cobwebs of your mind and grab your
camera to get in tune with the buzz.... this month 1650 celebrates life

I Know What You Did Last
Summer
Online Event -
Calls for Submissions
- Photography
Photo Gallery
Summer (my personal favorite out of all four
seasons) is in full swing, here in the Western Hemisphere - but before
long, the days will start to become noticeably shorter, shadows will
gradually grow longer, kids will begrudgingly head back to school, and
sadly - all of the summertime fun will be over...until summer rolls
around again, next year...For the September Exhibit - 1 lb. Gallery
invites you to submit photos that will let us all know what you did,
where you went, what you saw, or perhaps even something a little less
literal, like simply how summer made you feel this year...or any year,
for that matter...One Entrant will receive the "Juror's Choice Award",
and will be the featured artist on the 1 lb. website for the month of
September, 2013, as well as the special guest at the "I Know What You
Did Last Summer" Opening Night & Artist's Reception" on
September 6th, 2013. "Juror's Choice Award" winners who are unable to
attend the exhibition's Opening Night, have the option of, and are
encouraged to Skype via the gallery's Macbook, over the course of the
evening - so that they may talk about their work with the event's
attendees. 30 images will be chosen from the submissions, and will be
on display in the "I Know What You Did Last Summer" group exhibition at
1 lb. Gallery - until September 28th, 2013. Along with these images, 20
additional photos will appear on the online gallery annex.1 lb. Gallery

Photography 2013: Inventing
Perspective
Contests, Juried Art Shows
- Oil
Art Gallery
Entry is open to artists residing in the U.S.
Scale and perspective are pervasive issues in the realm of fine art
photography. This year's photography competition seeks experimental
woks using the photographic medium that challenges our ideas of
relative scale and perspective, as well as integrated use of other
media in unique and creative ways. Epic panoramic, pinhole and
photogram, photo-transfers, 3D photographic sculpture or objects,
installation, high speed, time-lapse and frozen-in-time images, as well
as infrared and HDR photography, are just some of the means
photographers may use to create dynamic works using the photographic
medium. Analog and digital photographs are both eligible and may be
used with any other medium. All photographs must be the original work
of the photographer entering the competition. Note: the Gallery has a
22ft extended ceiling with mounts that may be accessed for
installation. Digital enhancements should be noted in the materials
section of the on-line application. Fine art photography images should
emphasize unique composition, pattern, shape, and color/contrast. Works
may not exceed 48" width and 60" height including frame. Artists
wanting to submit an installation may discuss size and other
installation specifications with the Gallery Director. Juror: Corey
Keller, Curator of Photography, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.
Awards: Best of Show $600, 2nd Place $400, 3rd Place $300. Entry Fee:
$30 for first 3 entries, $3 each additional entry to a total of 6
entries. Gallery Exhibition: November 21 - December 13, 2013. On-line

“Art is the most intense mode of individualism
that the world has known.” ~Oscar Wilde. It’s no secret that some of
the best artwork comes from “tortured” artists creating with an
inspiration rooted from intense feelings such as sorrow, desperation
and fear. Art can be a truly liberating and therapeutic process. It can
also be a crutch, a mask to hide behind. With this call for entry we
want to know what drives you to create. Interpret your anguish, what’s
