Call for Artists - Deadline: September 8th, 2013

JoMar Visions is now accepting entries for the JoMar Visions Art Excellence Juried Competition 2013. Awards: 45 artists will be selected to exhibit during ArtCrawl. The exhibit for this year's JoMar Visions Art Excellence will be the big ArtCrawl Houston, which receives more than 4000 visitors, acommodating an amazing event that is the best place for collectors to find beautiful art directly from artists, and for artists to have the highly desired exposure.

CALENDAR
  • Deadline for entries (entry is online): Sun., Sep. 8th at midnight.
  • Notifications: Mon., Sep. 23rd.
  • Delivery/hanging of artwork: Sat. Nov. 9th, from 4pm-6pm or Wed., Nov. 13th, 6pm -9pm.
  • Event dates: Sat., Nov. 23rd, 10am -10pm (Awards at 3pm); and Sun., Nov. 24th, noon- 7pm
  • Pick up artwork: Monday, November 25th, 6pm -7pm
JURORS
  • Reginal C. Adams - Adams is a public artist and community developer. He is best known for his brilliantly colored tile mosaic and painted murals and sculptures, which are strategically located in some of Houston’s most historic and underserved neighborhoods. Over the past 11 years he has served as President and CEO of the Museum of Cultural Arts Houston (MOCAH), which is a non-profit art corporation that he co-founded in 1999 with his wife and art partner, Rhonda Radford-Adams. Through MOCAH, Reginald has facilitated the  design, coordination and production over 100 public art projects across the Houston area. Reginald is a senior fellow with the American Leadership Forum (ALF) Class 24, an alumnus of Leadership Houston Class 28 and President-elect of the Rotary Club of Houston Skyline. He was recently honored by the Houston Press with their annual 2010 Mastermind Award, an honor recognizing creative professionals that are making a significant impact on the city of Houston through the arts.
  • Sharis DeJaynes - Born in Houston and growing up surrounded by the talent of a family of artists living across the country from New York, NY to Denver, Colorado, to Phoenix, AZ., Sharis DeJaynes started painting in 1993 while in College at the University of Colorado. Her work has sold internationally and has been featured in numerous articles, both online and in print, with pieces featured in Teen Vogue and Coastal Living magazines. DeJaynes is the Owner of Affaire d'art International Fine Art Gallery in Galveston, Texas, and represents her art and the art of many other talented artists since 2011. (www.affairedart.com). Besides being an artist and gallerist, DeJaynes is also a published author.
  • Mark Roden - Born in San Antonio, Texas, and following the artistic vein of his father, Roden is a fine art photographer since 2001. He has had gallery affiliations as an artist with Eastman Gallery in Houston TX and Zen Art Space in the Houston Galleria. In 2010 Roden cofounded JoMar Visions, LLC providing a venue for local artists to showcase their art and supporting the local art community. In 2011, Roden was invited to be a juror for the “Show Us Your City Center” Exhibit in Houston TX and in the same year he starts painting. In 2013 Roden was invited to be a juror of Four Points Contemporary Biennial Juried Competition. He is a proud member of the Visual Arts Alliance Houston and Artists Alive & Well and his work can be found in several private collections in the USA, England and Portugal.
  • Joana Esteves - Esteves was born in Lisbon, Portugal and started as a fine art photographer in the year of 2009. She has had gallery affiliation as an artist with Zen Art Space in the Houston Galleria. In 2010, Esteves co-founded JoMar Visions, LLC with her partner Mark Roden, giving opportunities to many emerging artists to jump start their careers and to established artists to develop them even further. In 2011, Esteves was invited to be a juror for the “Show Us Your City Center” Exhibit in Houston TX and in the same year she starts painting. In 2012 she was nominated Houston Photographer of the year at the indie arts competition RAWards of RAW- Natural Born Artists. In 2013 Joana Esteves was invited to be a juror of Four Points Contemporary Biennial Juried Competition. She is a proud member of the Visual Arts Alliance Houston and Artists Alive & Well and her work is collected internationally.

Cash prizes totaling $1000:
  • 1st place - $500
  • 2nd place - $350
  • 3rd place - $150
Featured solo show at JoMar Visions (for 1st and 2nd place)
Free entry as a featured artist at one of JoMar Visions group shows (3rd place and 2 honorable mentions- 4th and 5th) The ability to exhibit at JoMar Visions for Houston ArtCrawl 2012 (45 artists)

FEES

The entry fee for 1 to 4 works is $40. One entry per artist. A diptych or triptych is considered a single work.

ELIGIBILITY AND JURY PROCEDURE

Artwork can be created with any 2D or 3D media with the exception of video. All works must be original, completed without supervision and have never been entered in any previous JoMar Visions Art Excellence juried competition. The artist must be at least 18 years old and alhtough he/she can be from any country he/she must be able to be present during the award ceremony. Each art work stands for itself and will be voted on by the judges individually, and with no influence of the other 3 judges. After voting, the judges will determine what artists have the best scores on the voting process and are selected for the several prizes.
