Myths & Legends: telling fantastical
stories through art.
February 7 – May 4, 2014. Annmarie Sculpture Garden & Arts
Center,
Dowell (Solomons), Maryland. This exhibit celebrates works of art that
bring to life fantastical myths, legends, fables, folktales, fairy
tales, and the like. For this exhibit, we invite artists to submit
works that tell fantastical stories. The goal is assemble a vibrant and
diverse selection of works that speak to the many ways artists can
enhance and truly bring to life myths and legends. Around the world,
from prehistoric times to the present, artists have been part of the
story-telling process, giving shape and form to fantastical stories of
supernatural beings, great heroes and heroines, cautionary tales,
magical creatures, and more. In ancient times, artists commonly
rendered images of these stories on walls, pottery, statuary,
tapestries, and paintings. In more recent times, books, graphic novels,
movies, apps, and games have expanded the way we experience these
stories. No matter the time period, the artist becomes the story-teller
and shares their spectacular vision through their art. All media
welcome; small to large-scale installations; new media encouraged;
indoor & outdoor works; cash awards. Deadline to apply:
December 6,
2013.

Create a work of art using ONLY the materials
provided in a Mystery
Build kit! What's inside? We can't tell you, but you can expect to find
some common art materials like wood, clay, canvas, metal, and plenty of
surprises. All 2014 kits contain the same materials, so each creator
faces the same challenges and limitations. It's a project that combines
the creation of art, the challenge of a puzzle, and the fun of a game.
Mystery build is ideal for anyone looking to go beyond the standard art
contest, to not only showcase their strongest talents and skills but
also stretch their creative muscles and think and work in entirely new
ways.HOW IT WORKS:Purchase a Mystery Build kit and your project
materials will be shipped to your door.Create an original project using
only the materials provided, that relates to the contest's theme. Share
your creation online. Upload images and/or video of your project, as
well as images/video of your work in progress. The theme this year is
"Build a Dream". What does that mean? You tell us!
