PH21 Gallery: Call for Entries - Inside out: Extended deadline

Contests, Juried Art Shows - Photography Photo Gallery

Photographic images are created by recording the light reflected from the surfaces of things and living beings. From the surface, however, we learn about the depths of the inner secrets. It is the revelation of what is hidden inside that makes photographs the powerful means of communicating thoughts and feelings. Photographs exploring the hidden create unique meanings enhancing our understanding and appreciation of what lies beneath. PH21 Gallery invites photographers to submit their work for the group exhibition themed Inside out. We are looking for submissions from all photographers who think that this concept or theme is a constitutive element in their work, and who would like to share their work with a wider international audience. The theme is broadly construed; it may be expressed visually on personal or social levels, literally or in abstract, symbolic ways. Indeed, we are interested in all possible creative artistic interpretations of the theme. Submission deadline EXTENDED: April 6, 2014 midnight (UTC+01, Central European Time)

Center Forward International Photographic Call for Entry

Contests, Juried Art Shows - Photography Photo Gallery

THEME: Center Forward. Photography, perhaps more than any other medium, seems inextricably linked to an increasingly complex modern world constantly unfolding in new and unexpected ways. Its ability to capture our cultural changes, the environments we inhabit, and the thoughts we keep play a vital role in giving us greater insights into our world and ourselves. In the 2014 Center Forward exhibit, we are interested in exploring this unique quality of photography; therefore, the theme is open and all subject matter is welcome. Hue - Call for Color Photography

Calls for 18 and under - Photography Photo Gallery

CALLING FOR SUBMISSIONS. DEADLINE April 16th, 2014 Midnight EST. Juror: Al Satterwhite. Color in photography has symbolism and meaning that travels beyond what you see. More than the combination of red, green, and blue or cyan, magenta, yellow, and black, color is a visual tool for non-verbal communication: a viewer's perception and connection to an image can be significantly enhanced by a certain hue. Strip away the subject matter from a photograph, and what is left behind? Two things. The underlying geometry of the photo, its composition or balance, and the color. The design and geometry make an image coalesce, become solid, and enduring. Whereas the color carries the opposite message, one of transience and impermanence. That’s because colors are not inherent in objects, but change and evolve with the changing light – and we photographers know, light is always changing. Hues must contrast or complement one another to create a successful image, a delicate dance of visual balance. For this exhibit we are looking for works that exemplify the innate power of color. Images that drive us through hue to an emotive response.

Niza Knoll Gallery is requesting art submissions for an upcoming exhibition entitled Holy Moly: Religious Commentary in Contemporary Art. Entries must be original artworks that reflect the artists’ personal contemplation of the following questions: What is religion? Is it real, fantasy, calming, confusing, corrupt? What do you think? How does it make you feel? How do you interpret it? Paint it, sculpt it, create your passion. Artists are encouraged to go beyond the depiction of religious icons in their expression. All entries are to be submitted in person to Niza Knoll Gallery at 915 Santa Fe Drive. Denver-based artist Mark Penner-Howell will be the sole Juror for this show. Mark Penner-Howell is a Denver-based artist who has exhibited widely throughout the region and in group shows nationally. He is represented in Colorado by Walker Fine Art. Howell hails from upstate New York and is the son of an evangelical Christian minister. "Having quite literally grown up in the church, the stage was set for me to continually examine matters of ‘faith’ throughout my adult life, and to try and sort out what I think and believe.” says Penner-Howell, “It's an ongoing process for me, as it likely is for the type of people tempted to enter work in a group show about religion. I'm confident this exhibit will be provocative and will represent a wide range of reactions to the topic."
