Portraiture
A juried international photography
exhibition
Call
for Entries - Deadline: August 24th, 2014
Portraiture emerged as one of the prominent genres of depictive media
early in the history of the visual arts, and the tacit or explicit
rules or expectations of the given socio-historical context always
influenced the ways artists approached the genre. Photography is no
exception; throughout its history characteristic styles of portraiture
emerged. Photography has revived the genre several times, and now we
live in a historically unique era; never before has portraiture been
practised as widely as it is these days. From amateurs to
professionals, and everybody in between, from commercial to fine art
portraits, from spontaneous selfies to elaborately planned and executed
photo shoots, portraits are presented to us to learn about the
personality of the subjects through the interpretation of the
photographer.
PH21
Gallery invites photographers to submit their work for a
group exhibition themed Personality: The Contemporary Portrait. We are
looking for submissions from all photographers who are interested in
this most intriguing genre, and who would like to share their work with
a wider international audience through the exposure of PH21 Gallery.
The theme is broadly construed; from traditional fine art portraits to
novel approaches to the selfie subgenre, personalities may be portrayed
in countless unique ways. Indeed, we are interested in all possible
creative photographic interpretations of the theme.
