Unexpected
A juried international photography
exhibition
Call for Artists - Deadline: February 24th, 2015
We live much of our lives in familiar situations and surroundings, and
that holds true for our natural, built as well as our social
environment. We need to rely on the known and the recognizable to be
able go about our daily routines. Some photographs help us in these
everyday pursuits through depicting, portraying and documenting the
world around us. Photography, however, may also surprise us by
presenting that which is unusual, distracting or even disturbing. These
images give us a pause as they demand a larger share of our attention
and interpretive efforts. They might be unexpected for various reasons
in terms of their content or composition; they all, however, originate
in a creative photographic decision to present the world in a way that
departs from the mundane ordinariness and familiarity of the default.
PH21
Gallery invites photographers to submit their work for a
group exhibition themed Unexpected. We are looking for submissions from
all photographers who are interested in this topic and would like to
share their work with a wider international audience through the
exposure of PH21 Gallery. The theme is broadly construed, and it is
independent of generic or stylistic constraints. Indeed, we are
interested in all possible creative photographic interpretations of the
theme.
This exhibition will be presented in our new Ráday St. gallery space.
One juror’s choice and up to three honourable mentions will be selected
and announced. The juror’s choice receives three free entries for any
upcoming themed group exhibition calls at PH21 Gallery. (Each free
entry includes up to 15 images.) The webpage and the print catalogue of
the exhibition will include a juror’s review; it provides a detailed
review of the juror’s choice, shorter evaluations of the honourable
mentions, and a one-sentence highlight of some of the other photographs
included in the exhibition. (Please visit the pages of our recent
exhibitions for examples.)
