People and other living creatures have an organic life cycle, and parts of our physical environment also have their cyclic coming into being and decay. The phases that constitute these cycles are unique and characteristic in their development and visual appearance. People, animals, plants, objects and scenes mature and grow old in very different manners. Quite often the penultimate stage of physical existence is characterized by gradual fading, marked by various signs of the approaching end. The photographic interpretations of fading away may range from cold, observing documentation to intimate, subjective involvement. PH21 Gallery invites photographers to submit their work for a group exhibition themed Fading. We welcome submissions from all photographers who are interested in this most intriguing topic, and who would like to share their work with a wider international audience through the exposure of PH21 Gallery. The theme is broadly construed, and it is independent of generic or stylistic constraints. We are interested in all possible creative photographic interpretations of the theme. The exhibition Fading will also feature a collaborative project by Neue Bühne Budapest and PH21 Gallery. Danielle Dutombé of Neue Bühne and photographer Birte Frey will present a “phototheatre” piece as part of the exhibition. Instead of creating a stand-alone photograph their work will engage visitors to participate in a physical action and turn the interpretation process into a two-way performance between the art piece and the viewer.

The West Des Moines Public Arts Advisory Commission and Parks and Recreation Department invite regional artists (Iowa, Illinois, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Wisconsin, South Dakota) to submit an Artwork Application to participate in the 4th annual Art on the Campus public art exhibit. Art on the Campus is a temporary outdoor exhibit, displayed on the West Des Moines City/School Campus from April to November each year. EXHIBIT DETAILS: Selected artists are paid a $1,500 stipend for the use of their artwork. A selection panel will choose up to 13 original works of art for installation.The artist retains ownership of their work and agrees to loan it to the exhibit. During the exhibit, the artwork will be covered under the City’s insurance for the retail value of the artwork; however, artists must also carry standard insurance coverage. Artists are required to provide proof of insurance for the retail value of their artwork if selected. A Grand Opening event will be held on Thursday, April 28, 2016 at which members of the community, WDM City Council, WDM Parks and Recreation Advisory Board, and featured artists will be invited to celebrate the opening of the 2016 Art on the Campus exhibit. Invited guests will have the opportunity to view the selected works, and artists are asked to attend and give a brief oral description of their artwork.A People’s Choice vote will be taken throughout the duration of the exhibit. When the exhibit is complete, the People’s Choice artwork will be named and shared with the public.

Abstract art can be depicted through many mediums and cover various themes such as figurative, representational or geometric which in turn, are executed in varying degrees of abstraction. In this call we want to see abstract art represented through technique, concept or content in your artistic medium of choice!Calls are open to all local, domestic, national and international professional and amateur artists. All art mediums will be considered in this call for submissions, from photography, wall sculpture, fabric, mixed media, all paintings and drawings including, oil, acrylic, pastels, ink, graphite, etc. Sizes up to 12 feet are acceptable. Work must be able to be hung on a wall to be considered for the live exhibition. Freestanding 3D artworks will be displayed online only. We are now accepting video and poetry entries for online shows.Accepted entries for this online exhibition will be judged again in the coming months for a collective live exhibition at our Los Angeles gallery. PLAYA’s residencies are open to visual and performing artists, scientists, writers, and individuals engaged in other forms of creative research. PLAYA welcomes a range of applicants--from emerging artists of promise to professionals with an established history of accomplishment. PLAYA offers seclusion and quiet in a natural environment and the opportunity for interaction, if desired, with a cohort of residents and the local rural community. Residencies are awarded for 2, 4, 6, or 8 weeks and include housing, work or studio space, and twice weekly group dinners at no cost. There is a $35 application fee for individuals ($70 for collaborative teams) to cover administrative costs. PLAYA, in south central Oregon, is a retreat for creative individuals who are committed and passionate about their work and who will benefit from time spent in a remote location.

Rising up along side are works of intense chroma, the color saturated and layered, blowing out the boundaries between figuration and abstraction. 2D and 3D are encouraged. Midwest Pressed are hot for this. Show us what you’ve got. Judges: Aaron Wilson and Tim Dooley founded Midwest Pressed in 2011 in Cedar Falls Iowa. It grew out of collaborative artworks that began through teaching as colleagues at the University of Northern Iowa. They produce a wide array of artworks ranging from fine art prints and public projects to printed ephemera. The artwork can be generally characterized as intensive, colorful and layered, but the pair of artists are primarily known for using the printmaking medium in an experimental fashion, including sculptural applications and installations. Their extensive body of artwork has been shown widely around the United States. Their work is featured in a number of recent publications on printmaking such as The Complete Engraver, Princeton Architectural Press, 2012; Printmaking: A Complete Guide to Materials and Processes, Prentice Hall, 2009, and A Survey of Contemporary Printmaking, Ladymuse, 2012.

Every city has a certain charm to itself; from its inhabitants, unique architecture or geography, these qualities combine to give a city its persona. Whether you're a local or a visitor, in this call we want to see your creative impressions of various aspects/perspectives of a city or cities of your choosing. Calls are open to all local, domestic, national and international professional and amateur artists. All art mediums will be considered in this call for submissions, from photography, wall sculpture, fabric, mixed media, all paintings and drawings including, oil, acrylic, pastels, ink, graphite, etc. Sizes up to 12 feet are acceptable. Work must be able to be hung on a wall to be considered for the live exhibition. Freestanding 3D artworks will be displayed online only. We are now accepting video and poetry entries for online shows. Accepted entries for this online exhibition will be judged again in the coming months for a collective live exhibition at our Los Angeles gallery. The artists will be asked if they wish to submit their artwork for the collective exhibition, which is not a requirement to being a part of the online exhibition. Our jurors are Susan and Neil Silverman, a husband-wife team who have taught and photographed together for over twenty-five years. Their passion behind the lens is transmitted not only thru their images, but to their students as well, as they travel and teach worldwide. Their images go to several stock agencies and they always have a “multi-purpose” thought in mind when photographing. They have taught for Great American Photography Workshops, Better Photo.com, Santa Fe School, PPA affiliates, PPC, B&H Photo, and many more. Their work has appeared on the cover ofOutdoor Photography, in Elle Magazine, der Spiegel, Sierra Club, the Cure, The Wooden Boat, Nikon World and many more. They now teach and lead their own workshops—Silverman’s Photography Workshops. Although they are well versed in Photoshop and Lightroom, they really believe in getting the image in the camera. It is desired that the finished project be a series of integrated artworks within the building’s interior or site structures (i.e.: building floor, pillars, hanging art from walls or ceiling, wall fountain, fountain, chandeliers, kinetic, interactive structures). Design of the building has begun and the selected artist will work with the facility architect, Song & Associates, to create an impactful, integrated project that will reflect the Municipal Complex’s over-all look.
