Urban spaces have always been significant sources of inspiration for photographers for a very good reason; the dwelling places of much of humanity provide intensified experiences of how we shape our environment and how we live in the environment we create for ourselves. Cities offer a bounty of visual stimuli for the eye and the camera to catch. The structural beauty of the still lines and shapes of the buildings and streets provide for exciting compositions. The ever-changing swirl of the streets challenges us to capture precious passing moments. Cities show an entirely different face during the day and with the lights on at night. There are endless ways of portraying the life of the inhabitants of cities, endless ways for photographers to construct their unique interpretations of what cities mean for them. PH21 Gallery invites photographers to submit their work for a group exhibition themed City + Life. We are looking for submissions from all photographers who are interested in this most intriguing subject, and who would like to share their work with a wider international audience through the exposure of PH21 Gallery. Photographic greats such as Brassai, George Tice, Peter Hujar, Weegee and Robert Brook are just a few examples of those who have contributed great works in the genre of night photography. This month, at 1650, it is your turn. Approx fifty works will be chosen from submitted photos. The opening night reception is on Halloween night in Echo Park. My name is Robert Paterson, and I am a composer based in New York City. I am also the Artistic Director for the highly-acclaimed American Modern Ensemble. I am creating a new choral work for Volti, a choir in San Francisco, entitled "Graffiti Canons". With this project and and many others, I have been interested in setting unconventional texts, and working artists from other disciplines. In this case, I am interested in using text from high-quality photographs of graffiti that is graffiti that includes sentences and phrases, and in particular, quotes, sayings or other texts that would be considered graffiti. The chosen images will be compiled into a slide show and/or a video that will be shown along with performances of the choral work. Each photo will include a caption with the name of the photographer. Please do not submit purely graphic images or texts that contain profanity. Graffiti may be from any country or state, from any time period, and in any language. The more diverse, the better. If the text is not in English, please include a translation. NOTE: submitted photos should be high-quality, 300dpi images that are 8X10 or as large as possible. The maximum file size our photo contest supports is 50MB. Users can upload JPG or PNG files. Winners will need to sign a letter of agreement allowing the chosen photo to be used for all artistic and promotional purposes associated with this choral work.

The 5th CTC exhibition is open to all ceramic artists over the age of 18 who currently reside in the Central Time Zone (including areas of Canada and Mexico within this time zone). All forms of ceramic expression created within the last three years are encouraged. The show will be judged by Verne Funk. Funk, after forty years of teaching, retired from Texas Tech University with Professor Emeritus status. In 2007 he was accepted as a member of the International Academy of Ceramics. He is an active studio artist now living in San Antonio. There will be three cash awards selected by the juror: 1st place - $1,000.00, 2nd place - $500.00, 3rd place - $250.00.

Art is a powerful tool to evoke social change. Without uttering a single word, artists can enlighten, educate and effect change around the world. Embracing Our Differences invites all artists to be a part of this change through your submissions to its 13th annual outdoor juried art exhibit celebrating diversity and inclusion. Artists, photographers, professionals, amateurs, teachers, students – everyone can participate. 42 artists will be selected and national and international submissions are encouraged. The exhibit will be displayed April and May 2016 in Sarasota, FL USA. Since 2004, the exhibits have been viewed by more than 2,000,000 visitors. Final selections will be made by a three-judge panel of professional artists, curators and art professionals and based on artistic excellence and originality in the reflection of our theme "enriching lives through diversity." $3,000 (US) in awards will be presented. There is no submission fee nor limit on the number of entries. Submissions must be submitted online or postmarked no later than January 4, 2016.

CALL FOR ENTRIES: Mountain Standard Clay

Calls for Submissions - Ceramics Museum

Exhibition Dates: April 16 – June 12, 2016. Building on the success of over 30 previous clay exhibitions, FAC is pleased to announce the official call to artists for our 2016 Mountain Standard Clay. This exhibition replaces Foothills Art Center's longstanding biennial exhibition, Colorado Clay. Included in this exhibition will be artists all who hail from the Mountain Standard Time Zone states. FAC's goal is to showcase clay in a way that goes well beyond functional objects and into the realm of fine art with this exhibition. FAC has invited several highly accomplished artists who are truly doing exciting and new things with clay to participate in the exhibition. The invited artists confirmed so far include Claire McArdle (CO) and Samuel Chung (MT). The remaining objects will be selected by juror, Peter Held. Artists may enter up to 3 objects, each to be judged for inclusion in the exhibition.
