Workshop Description: Our Iconography workshop is set up as an introduction to painting traditional Romanian Icons on Glass. We teach our students centuries old painting techniques in Byzantine art used on reverse glass painting. We selected specific icons for this project that each student will be able to learn the most techniques from. Including painting the face, garments, decorative backgrounds and applying 24K gold leaf. The workshop is planned that each student will be able to complete a fully finished icon during the weekend. What to Expect: Each day begins with a lecture on Byzantine and Romanian art, giving the students a full understanding of the tradition and value of this medieval art form. During the workshop each student will learn a step-by-step process to complete a traditional Icon. The instructor Lee Vasu, will work with each individual student instructing them through the drawing, painting and gold leaf process. Students will learn the main reasons for painting icons, gain knowledge of the history and painting methods of the Byzantines by creating visually stunning icons. We will plan a powerful image, composition, values, mixing colors, depth and painting application processes for reverse glass painting, including applying 24K gold leaf techniques.

Dacia's Artist Residency provides an academic program to inspire, refine and redefine the creative direction of artists in a painting intensive two-week program. We are accepting artists that want to dedicate their time to painting, learning the ins and outs of the New York art world and exploring all the wonderful opportunities that the city has to offer artists. A juried international photography exhibition. January 21, 2016 – February 9, 2016. The human body has been the central subject of various photographic genres. From documentary, event and street photography to fashion photography and the nude, photographers have always found ways of constructing images in which the specific portrayal of the human body gains significance. That significance may stem from the rich layers of meanings emerging from specific socio-cultural contexts, the visual interaction of the human body with the surrounding physical space, or the intriguing compositional possibilities offered by the body itself. When focusing on the body, some photographers explore movements, study expressive gestures and postures, or concentrate on the beauty and details of the human anatomy. Some narrate whole life stories through the depiction of the human body. Others may offer stern visual criticism of our normative conceptions of the human body and its mainstream representation in Western media. PH21 Gallery invites photographers to submit their work for a group exhibition themed Body 2016. We are looking for submissions from all photographers who are interested in this most intriguing subject, and who would like to share their work with a wider international audience through the exposure of PH21 Gallery. In this call for submissions we are looking for your artistic characterization of time, in any of its tenses!Calls are open to all local, domestic, national and international professional and amateur artists. All art mediums will be considered in this call for submissions, from photography, wall sculpture, fabric, mixed media, all paintings and drawings including, oil, acrylic, pastels, ink, graphite, etc. Sizes up to 12 feet are acceptable. Work must be able to be hung on a wall to be considered for the live exhibition. Freestanding 3D artworks will be displayed online only. Philadelphia Sculptors is seeking artists to help launch "Artship Olympia," a floating exhibition of site specific installations on Cruiser Olympia, the oldest floating steel warship in the world. The ship is moored in the boat basin next to the Independence Seaport Museum at Penn's Landing in Philadelphia, PA. From June 25 – September 25, 2016, Cruiser Olympia will transition from battleship to "artship" as it becomes a temporary art venue. Artists will have the opportunity to create artworks in designated locations on the ship's interior and exterior decks. Created in collaboration with the Seaport Museum, the exhibition will use contemporary art as a means of activating the historic vessel. Selected artists will receive an honorarium of $1,000 to create dynamic artworks that respond to the Olympia's history, narratives, shipboard conditions, naval culture, ecology, political context and/or physical attributes. The jurors are Craig Bruns – Chief Curator, Independence Seaport Museum; Jesse Lebovics – Director of Historic Ships, Independence Seaport Museum; Pepón Osorio – Community and Installation Artist and Professor, Tyler School of Art; and Sara Reisman – Curator, and Artistic Director of The Shelley & Donald Rubin Foundation. The Naples Art Association (NAA) is now accepting entries for its latest juried awards exhibition. The 51st Founders Juried Awards Exhibition is a biennial exhibition open to NAA members and artists joining the NAA. The fine-art exhibition will be installed in the von Liebig Art Center and will feature two and three-dimensional artwork in all media. The von Liebig Art Center is located in the heart of the 5th Avenue South shopping, dining and entertainment district in Naples, Florida. Three Jurors will review and score online entries for the exhibition and assigning $3,500 in cash awards. The jurors are Dr. Jill Deupi, Beaux Arts Director and Chief Curator of the Lowe Art Museum, University of Miami; Patrick McCaughey, Art Historian and former Director of the Wadsworth Atheneum in Hartford and the Yale Center for British Art in New Haven, Connecticut; and Morgan T. Paine, Associate Professor of Art at Florida Gulf Coast University in Fort Myers, Florida. Entry fee $29. Annual Naples Art Association memberships are $75. One of the benefits of membership is the opportunity to exhibit and sell artwork. Selected artists will be featured in volumes 33 & 34 of Studio Visit which will be released in the Spring/Summer of 2016.
