2nd Place Winner

Congratulations to TheArtList.com's 2nd Place Winner -Walter Poole. Walter's artist statement is: The events I have witnessed from war to chaotic social change have influenced my painting.  I create synthesized landscapes and environments of shapes and color using mixed textures either painted or applied in an attempt to elicit conversations about powerful emotions such as violence, sex and life mysteries.  He returned to painting in March 2014 after a 22 year absence.

Viewer's Choice Award Winner

Congratulations to Viewer's Choice Winner - Constantine Cionca. Constantine says: ”I think of my digital work as blending manipulated collage of fragments: objects, drawings, paintings, photographs. They are improvisational images that question our making of the art through language and knowledge. My digital project has always been grounded in pleasure and aesthetics”. My work doesn’t reference recognizable form. The results are deconstructed to the extent that meaning is shifted and possible interpretation becomes multifaceted."

Reflections: The Visual Echo Photography Exhibition

Contests, Juried Art Shows - Digital Media, Photography Photo Gallery

Why is it that reflections attract the artistic eye so? Is it the ghost-like excitement of that we can see but can't touch? The imperfect mimicry of the visual echo teases the eye with visions of fleeting unworldliness amongst the solid, explained, and mundane. The wiggly contours of the human face on a puddle of rainwater. The dry mirage of summer sun ricocheting from window glass to city stone. How about the hyper-visual bonding of neon and raindrops on a rainy night? Even the flawless mirror image of mirrors can be interesting in it's reverseness -- or perhaps perverseness? The list may go on and on, but for us dear reader, time grows short. For all of photography is but a reflection, and this month 1650 is here to help sort it out. So wash your window and shine your chrome, this time it's not you we want.... it's the reflection of your perfection we yearn to see.

SAME DIFFERENT 2016 INTERNATIONAL OPEN CALL FOR ENTRY

Online Event - Contests, Juried Art Shows - Photography Art Organization

The New York Center for Photographic Art (NYC4PA) invites photographers world-wide to submit images using any photographic process (print, image transfer, emulsion transfer, encaustic, black and white, color etc.). Winners will receive over $5,000 in cash awards and be featured in the NYC4PA Online Gallery. The Grand Prize winning image will be posted on the NYC4PA home page. As with the theme, this call is the same but different from most of our others. We will still have a wonderful juror, great cash prizes, an online gallery and a winners’ catalog. That will be the same. The difference will be that cash awards will be larger in lieu of the gallery show we usually produce for Prize Winners and Juror Selections. SAME BUT DIFFERENT: The New York Center for Photographic Art is challenging photographers to pair 2 photographs and present them in diptych format (both images in one file). Not any 2 images; rather 2 that seem the same, but different enough to make each unique. They may be 2 versions of an image that you processed differently, or the same scene at different times of day. You might have two portraits of the same person with a feature or features that distinguish the 2 images. The possibilities are endless and the room for interpretation and creativity equally vast. This call is a little different and one we hope you have fun with when selecting your submissions. Using the diptych format, send us your pairs of images – two images that are THE SAME BUT DIFFERENT. Feel free to contact us with questions of you need any clarification or for instructions for creating a diptych in Photoshop.

PH21 Gallery: Call for entries - Lines and curves

Calls for Submissions - Photography Photo Gallery

A juried international photography exhibition. March 17 – April 5, 2016. Lines and curves are some of the most important visual building blocks of both figurative and abstract images. We can observe lines and curves of all possible varieties in photographs; they are everywhere. Putting them in the centre of attention might even sound trivial and not particularly interesting at first. This, however, is a call for not just any lines and curves. We would like to see lines and curves that take a daring and pronounced initiative in the photograph; lines and curves that capture our attention, lead our eyes, and determine the way we appreciate the photograph. Lines and curves might have significant compositional role but they may also focus our attention on some parts of the image, hence influencing our interpretation. There are countless ways lines and curves might become the central creative aspect in a photograph. PH21 Gallery invites photographers to submit their work for a group exhibition themed Lines and curves. We are looking for submissions from all photographers who are interested in this subject and would like to share their work with a wider international audience through the exposure of PH21 Gallery. We welcome submissions from all photographic genres, including abstract compositions. We are interested in all possible creative photographic interpretations of the theme.

The broad theme of “Wide Open 7” encompasses all the possibilities of knowledge and freedom and love - wide open spaces…arms wide open…eyes wide open - but as with all things, there is the inevitable opposite - wide open to attack…corruption…failure. What kind of fantasy is this? What does it really indicate? This juried show looks to explore the idea of “wide open” in all the hidden niches of our collective psyche. This call for submissions is open to all residents of the U.S. and its Territories 18 years of age or older. This is a juried exhibition for artists working in all traditional and non-traditional 2-D and 3-D media, including film/video when part of an installation.
