Dinner - Call for Entry
Contests, Juried Art Shows
- Oil, Art Gallery
Dinner or supper? What a dilemma. I have called
the evening meal "dinner" for as long as I can remember and "supper"
just dropped from my vocabulary. My mother reminded me of the use of
"dinner" when my uncle invited us over to partake. In my head, we were
going a 6PM. Well no, he meant noon. Dinner for him was lunch for me
and supper for him was dinner for me. Whatever! It all boils down to
one thing. Food. And hopefully the company of good friends and loved
ones. The juror for "Dinner" will be Barbra Riley. Barbra has been
developing curriculum and teaching classes in photography, design, book
arts and watercolor painting at Texas A&M University-Corpus
Christi for over 3 decades as well as curating exhibitions and
conducting workshops.

Shadows: Darkness and Light
Contests, Juried Art Shows
- Oil, Art Gallery
Photography is the recording of patterns of
darkness and light. Shadows enhance the relationships of subjects in an
image, they give definition and dimension, which compliments the
quality of the light values. Photographers have used dramatic shadows
and patterns in black and white images and have also explored using
ethereal and moody shadows and textures in color photography. We will
be looking for a range of how shadow and light are interpreted by
contemporary photographers.

DEADLINE SEPTEMBER 15, 2012
- $0 in Awards
ROAD: Juried by W.M. Hunt
Contests, Juried Art Shows
- Oil, Art Gallery
“ROAD” a photo competition and exhibition to be
judged and curated by W.M. Hunt, a well-known collector, curator and
consultant based in New York City. “ROAD” is meant to include a wide
range of photographs from landscape to portraiture, anything that
suggests a journey. This is an open call for entries of photo-based
works made by artists who feel their work reflects the theme in some
way. Mr. Hunt is looking for fresh, fully considered hotographs. The
resulting exhibition is intended to include at least 30 artists. Mr.
Hunt feels that the history of photography is full of “road” pictures
and that they take many forms. The road can be personal: a
psychological or spiritual passage. Or it can be literal. The range is
from transcendence to travel. It can take place in your head or in your
backyard or in your car. Dorothea Lange’s “The Road West, New Mexico”,
1938, and Robert Frank’s “US 285 New Mexico”, 1955-58, are classic
black and white examples of the wide open, empty road. Not to leave
people out of this, the earliest photograph of a person is “Boulevard
du Temple” taken by Louis-Jacques-Mandé Daguerre in 1838 in Paris. As
important as its showing a street is the 10 minutes – the length of
time - it took to make the exposure. Time can be “the road”. Hunt is
looking for imaginative responses to the theme. He is the author of
“The Unseen Eye: Photographs from the Unconscious” published last fall
by Aperture. In keeping with the gallery’s mission “to exhibit artists
who are worthy of appreciation, to show images which will inspire and
excite”, he is looking for work that will excite and inspire him.

DEADLINE JANUARY 15, 2013 -
$12500 in Awards
Eco Arts Awards extends
entry deadline to Jan.15th '13.
Online Event -
Contests, Juried Art Shows
- Acrylic, Ceramics, Crafts, Digital Media, Glass, Mosaic,
Illustration, Jewelry, Mixed media, Metalsmithing, Sculpture,
Watercolor, Oil, Pastel, Photography, Poetry, Video/Film Art Gallery
Eco Arts Awards is an annual thematic arts
competition that features six creative categories: Fine Art,
Photography, Literature, Repurposed Materials in Art & Design,
Short Videos, and Songwriting! The theme is ecology, as we seek to
promote its meaning, knowing that artist's are a key factor in lifting
our awareness above any political or scientific debate. We have expert
jurors in each category that will select the top three winners; First,
Second, and Third place. Our juror's score on the basis of criteria
specific to each medium, but know that thematic content carries a
heavier weight in the overall score. This is our second year, and we
have made some changes, not the least of which is doubling the amount
of cash we are offering to three winners in six creative categories!
The other change we are making is rather than announcing ten finalists
we will be announcing our "Top Fifty" in each category, as we want to
honor more artist's for their creativity and promote the theme of
ecology from as many different perspectives as is possible. We will
announce all winners on January 31st, 2013 via our newsletter, so be
sure to sign up for it on our home page! Its also a good idea to "like
us" on facebook for more current news and interesting info pertaining
to the art of ecology. Now go hug a tree and express yourself!
