DEADLINE DECEMBER 30, 2012
Naked Judging: Canteen
Magazine Photo Contest
Contests, Juried Art Shows
- Oil, Art Gallery
We are holding our second photography contest
because of our wariness of photography contests. They tend to be opaque
affairs that stifle dialogue—the winners are chosen, no one quite knows
why, and 99% of the participants are left without their entrance fee or
an explanation. Instead, we aim to treat our participants as partners:
By running this as a nonprofit model, and by providing complete
transparency about our selection process, placing the judges’ criteria,
biases, and disagreements on full, naked display. The result, we hope,
will be an honest and provocative conversation about
photography.NOTABLE FEATURES: **A live finale: The final round of
judging will occur in front of a live audience, and will be
simultaneously streamed online. Prior to the winners being selected,
audience members (both in-person and online) can probe the judges with
questions. **Brief notes/critiques from all judging rounds will be
available on our website for every submission.**Longer-form critiques
and discussions between the judges and entrants printed in Canteen
magazine and online at Lenscratch. **A nonprofit model in which any
profits are refunded to participants. JUDGES: Arnold Lehman (Brooklyn
Museum's Director), Amy Stein (photographer), and Susan Bright
(curator, author); with the live final round moderated by Anothony
Goicolea (photographer).

Online Event -
Contests, Juried Art Shows
- Acrylic, Ceramics, Crafts, Digital Media, Glass, Mosaic,
Illustration, Jewelry, Mixed media, Metalsmithing, Sculpture,
Watercolor, Oil, Pastel, Photography, Poetry, Video/Film Art Gallery
Eco Arts Awards is an annual thematic arts
competition that features six creative categories: Fine Art,
Photography, Literature, Repurposed Materials in Art & Design,
Short Videos, and Songwriting! The theme is ecology, as we seek to
promote its meaning, knowing that artist's are a key factor in lifting
our awareness above any political or scientific debate. We have expert
jurors in each category that will select the top three winners; First,
Second, and Third place. Our juror's score on the basis of criteria
specific to each medium, but know that thematic content carries a
heavier weight in the overall score. This is our second year, and we
have made some changes, not the least of which is doubling the amount
of cash we are offering to three winners in six creative categories!
The other change we are making is rather than announcing ten finalists
we will be announcing our "Top Fifty" in each category, as we want to
honor more artist's for their creativity and promote the theme of
ecology from as many different perspectives as is possible. We will
announce all winners on January 31st, 2013 via our newsletter, so be
sure to sign up for it on our home page! Its also a good idea to "like
us" on facebook for more current news and interesting info pertaining
to the art of ecology. Now go hug a tree and express yourself!
