(Un) Clothed - An International Juried Call for Entry

Contests, Juried Art Shows - Photography Photo Gallery

THEME (Un)Clothed is not simply to be nude. To be unclothed is to be without cover: to be bare, free, exposed, vulnerable, natural and/or blank. While humans most often use clothing as decoration, protection, covering, or barrier, one’s own skin has become socially regarded as hidden and/or private. (Un)Clothed will reveal what lies beneath and depict that which is not commonly seen or expected. JUROR: Mona Kuhn is an internationally acclaimed artist. Kuhn photographs beautiful nudes that are not simply about being naked. They are about the body being a resi- dence of who we are as human beings. Kuhn portrays the complexities of human nature, both tempting and provoking the viewer’s imagination. Her body of work includes images from a French naturist colony and her birthplace of Brazil where she returned after a 20 year absence. She has exhibited extensively in the United States, Europe, and South America. Steidl published her past two monographs Photographs (2004), Evidence (2007), Native (2009), as well as her most recent Bordeaux Series (2011). Her work is held in collections such as the Griffin Museum, Massachusetts; the Miami Art Museum, Florida; the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; the Los Angeles County Museum of Art; the Museum of Photographic Arts, San Diego; the Sir Elton John Collection, England; and the Buhl Foundation, New York. EXHIBITIONS & AWARDSWith selection for this exhibition, featured artist’s work will be seen by an international audience of collectors, curators, art consultants and other advocates of fine art photography.

Wide Open 4 Juried Art Show NYC: Call to Artists

Contests, Juried Art Shows - Acrylic, Ceramics, Digital Media, Glass, Mosaic, Illustration, Mixed media, Metalsmithing, Sculpture, Oil, Pastel, Photography, Watercolor, Video/Film Art Organization

We are excited to announce our fourth annual national juried art show, Wide Open 4 and its prestigious juror—Carrie Springer, Senior Curatorial Assistant at the Whitney Museum of American Art. With her direction, we look forward to a really awesome show. Hurricane Sandy set us back a couple of months, but the 2013 show will be longer and better than ever in our newly rebuilt space. $3100 in cash prizes will be awarded including $1000 Best in Show. The exhibit runs May 11 - June 16, 2013.The broad theme of "Wide Open 4" encompasses all the possibilities of knowledge and freedom and love—wide open spaces…arms wide open…eyes wide open—but as with all things, there is the inevitable opposite—wide open to attack…corruption…failure. What kind of fantasy is this? What does it really indicate? This juried show looks to explore this idea of "wide open" in all the hidden niches of our collective psyche. Ours is a truly unique gallery—a massive Civil War-era warehouse on the Red Hook waterfront in Brooklyn, NY. Its enormous space affords us the opportunity to exhibit really huge work, and we welcome it. We will be using 8,000 square feet for this show, and look forward to exhibiting artist's work from all around the country, work in all sizes, subjects, and media, except film (it's almost completely wide open). This call for submission is open to all residents of the U.S. and its Territories 18 years of age or older. This is a juried exhibition for artists working in all traditional and non-traditional 2D and3D media, including film/video when part of an installation. All artwork must be original in concept, design and execution.

FROM JANUARY 03, 2013 TO APRIL 01, 2013 - $5000 in Awards

Picturing the World Family

Contests, Juried Art Shows - Digital Media, Photography Art Organization

Picturing the World Family is a call to action from photographers (professional, non-professional & students) to submit a portfolio of images (a coherent photo essay - maximum 5 images) that showcases the landscape of contemporary family lives and relationships as they exist across the World today. Where Picturing the World Family differs from Steichen's Family of Man exhibition, is that it uses the power of the photo-essay (portfolio) to tell a story, rather than using single images and themes (related to personal life experiences), from which to tell a story. It is an opportunity for each selected photographer to receive recognition and exposure through being published in an International online gallery, and in the Picturing the World Family Portfolio Book Series. Picturing the World Family is a call to entry for submissions to be made to The World Family, which will help inform our understanding of what contemporary family lives and relationships look like across the globe today. In doing so, it becomes a contemporary response to Steichen's (1952-1955) Family of Man that is readily accessible to an online international audience. Three photographers whose portfolio (a photo-essay of 5 images) best demonstrates photographic excellence, and shows they have engaged deeply with the theme of contemporary family lives and relationships (rather than just documenting them or recording them). There is no set definition of 'family lives' and 'relationships' as we all understand these vary considerably. Total prize pool includes 3 cash awards, entry to online exhibition and into the book publication. To enter: see our website.
