Ora
International Art Prize:
10 Worldwide Galleries seek New Artists
Deadline:
April 10th, 2013
The
ORA Prize is open to all artists with no restrictions on age,
nationality, thinking, technique or any other factor. The prize
encourages the participation of artists of all levels.
Mission
The ORA prize was created to offer artists a practical opportunity to
present their work to some active worldwide galleries. All the works
entered will, in fact, be examined by a jury of 10 gallerists,
providing unique visibility and an opportunity to be contacted directly
by art system professionals interested in your work. Each of the 10
galleries will select a winner who will be offered the chance to stage
a solo show including critical and commercial support with the prize
organizers responsible for international-level communications and
publicity. A further 20 artists felt to be particularly deserving will
be featured together the winning artists in the prestigious ORA prize
catalogue.
Works Accepted
All completed works will be accepted as entries, including those
already presented in other exhibitions and competitions. The prize is
not divided into sections and all forms of artistic expression are
accepted, with no restrictions in terms of materials and media used,
dimensions or subject matter. Artists may participate with an unlimited
number of works, following the procedure indicated in the entry form
section of this site. All works will remain the property of the
artists. The artists will be able to independently manage all their own
information by themselves, change their personal data, delete and add
files throughout the entire duration of the award. It is not necessary
that the works submitted for the award will remain available. The
artists chosen as winners will create a new project for them solo
exhibition and will be free to use the presented works or to show new
ones.
Jury
The jury evaluates all the works entered and selects the 10 winners.
The 10 galleries that making up the main jury are listed here.
Exhibitions
Each gallery will select an artist who will be offered the opportunity
of having a two-week solo show in the gallery concerned. Each gallery
will be responsible for the installation of the exhibition and the
handling of sales of the works after having agreed on prices and
percentages directly with the artist. All transport (round trip)
expenses and any insurance costs for the works will be the
responsibility of the individual artists. The organizers of the O.R.A.
Prize will be responsible for the printing of the catalogue featuring
all the winners, the communication and publication of the results of
the competition and information regarding each exhibition through the
preparation of a press release and an accompanying brief text for each
solo show by the curator Carolina Lio and the distribution of the same
via the press, internet and a substantial mailing list composed of art
sector professionals and collectors. The list of winners will be
communicated within 90 days of the closing date. All exhibitions will
be held by 31 July 2014 unless proven cases of force majeure (eg.
gallery closure).
Communications and Visibility
All the works entered for the O.R.A. Prize will be published online in
order to provide maximum visibility for all the artists. The O.R.A.
prize website and our Facebook and Twitter pages will be publicised via
constant press office activities and international-scale promotion.
This continuous PR work is designed to guarantee maximum transparency
and highlight all the material sent in to the prize while subsequently
publishing all the information relating to the competition results.
Each of the 10 art exhibitions organized for the 10 winner artists will
be communicated to all our contacts through a mailing list composed by
more than 10.000 worldwide readers specialized in contemporary visual
art: artists, art magazines, museum affiliated, curators, critics,
galleries, consultants and collectors.
Catalogue
A general catalogue will be published featuring all 10 winning artists
and all 20 selected artists. The catalogue will be in English. A free
copy of the catalogue will be sent to the 10 winning artists, the 10
galleries making up the jury as well as to a selected list of critics,
curators, art sector professionals and contemporary art libraries and
archives.
Registration fee
The basic registration
fee required as partial coverage for organizational expenses has been
set at 60 Euros (sixty/00) for three works. Each additional work has a
cost of 5 euros (five/00). It is possible to register an unlimited
number of works, remove and add them them even after the time of
enrollment for the entire period of the prize. All movements coud be
done individually by the artists, controlling their own personal page.
The registration fee is not refundable. Payment of the registration fee
may be made online with a credit card or with a bank transfer, as
specified in the “Sign up” section of this site.
Relationships with the
Galleries
Each of the galleries in the jury will chose a winning artist from all
those entering the competition, with the only restriction being that
they may not select artists who have or have had professional
relationships with that gallery. Those artists who work or who have
worked with one or more of the galleries in the jury may however be
selected by another jury member. Should an artist be selected by more
than one gallery, the artist will choose which gallery will host their
exhibition. In such cases the galleries will select alternative artists
to guarantee a total of 10 winners. Alternatives will also be chosen
should a winning artist decide not to accept the prize or is unable to
produce their exhibition through force majeure. The winning artists and
the galleries will work directly together on the planning and running
of the exhibition. The date of the exhibition may be set in accordance
with the artist's availability, with the inauguration taking place with
the 31st of July 2014. The works on show and their installation will be
agreed upon by the artist and the gallery. Prices of the works and
percentages will be agreed upon privately between the gallery and the
artist. The duration of the exhibition may be extended beyond the
minimum of two weeks set by the competition. The ORA prize will not
intervene in nor will it have any rights regarding sales of the works
and the continuation of the professional relationship between artist
and gallery.
Liability
The organizers of the ORA
prize decline all liability in the case of the failure of the winning
artists and the galleries to reach agreements and in the case of theft,
fire or damage of any kind to the works or to persons that may occur
during the organization or the period of the solo shows. The decisions
of the ORA prize jury are final and cannot be appealed. The winning
artists may forego their prize but will not be entitled to any form of
reimbursement from the organizers. An artist who refuses the solo show
in the gallery that selected them automatically foregoes their prize,
their place in the catalogue and all the communication relating to the
prize. In this case the prize will be reassigned according to the
classification drawn up by the jury members.
Consent
All candidates shall give the ORA prize rights to reproduce their works
for publication in the catalogue, the archive of participants, the ORA
prize website and other forms of communication and activity at the
organizers' discretion. All candidates expressly authorise the ORA
prize secretariat to store the personal data transmitted in accordance
with Law 675/96 ("Privacy Law") and successive legislative decree
modifications 196/2003 (Privacy Code) and to enter said details in data
banks managed by the above mentioned parties. Participation in the ORA
prize implies knowledge of an full acceptance of these terms and
