Introducing the
Mentorship
Since
writing my best-selling book, "Starving" to Successful in 2009, I've
helped thousands of artists establish relationships with galleries,
generate more sales, and build better careers. I often receive requests
from artists for personal career coaching. Unfortunately, due to my
schedule, I haven't had the time to do in-depth coaching with more than
a fraction of the individual artists who have requested it.

For
the last several months, I've been developing an idea that will change
all of that, and I'm excited to announce the "Starving" to Successful
Mentorship.
In July, I will select one artist for an
intensive mentorship. The mentorship includes 1 year (more or less, as
needed) of one-on-one coaching. In our coaching sessions, I'll help you
(if you are selected) set goals and implement strategies to achieve
them. I'll evaluate your work for quality and marketability. I'll help
you craft your artist's statement and biography, and much more. Most
importantly, we'll be working toward a one-person show for you at
Xanadu Gallery.
There is a one-time, $29 registration to
apply for the mentorship, but beyond that there are no additional costs
for the coaching (see details below).
One Artist
Selected, but All Who Participate Win
So how does this
help artists who apply, but aren't selected for the mentorship? Simple,
all of the coaching sessions will be broadcast live over the internet,
and all of the assignments will be distributed to participating
artists. Artists who are listening in on the coaching sessions can
follow along and apply what they learn to their own work and career.
This
will be a transformative experience for the selected artist, and for
all artists who listen in on the consultation sessions. Everyone who
participates will benefit from the real-world experience we gain as we
work together to take you from "Starving" to Successful.
Artists
who want to listen in on the coaching, but don't wish to apply for the
mentorship, can audit the coaching sessions. To audit the coaching
sessions, register

| Mentorship
Outline |
|
| The
"Starving" to Successful Mentorship will be customized to the selected
artist. If you are selected, I will work with you to set up the
coaching plan to meet your schedule and individual needs. Sessions will
be held at intervals appropriate for you, and topics will be customized
to optimize the
mentorship, and help you find the best approach to increase
your success. We will be covering all of the following areas
thoroughly, but we may add coaching sessions and topics as deemed
appropriate. |
|
| Comprehensive
Career/Artwork Assessment and Analysis |
|
We will begin the mentorship with an
in-depth assessment of your
career. We will look at your experiences, career, and artwork to find
your strengths and opportunities for growth. I will analyze your
current approach to your career and begin to find areas that we can
work on together to improve.
I will also assess the marketability and presentation of your work. |
|
| Goal Setting and Strategic
Planning |
|
After
a comprehensive evaluation of your work, we will set out to create
achievable but challenging goals for your work and career.
Understanding your goals and setting a destination will increase
your long-term success dramatically. I'll share with you my goal and
strategy setting techniques, and we'll look at what other artists have
accomplished to better understand the possibilities.
During our
goal setting sessions, we will also begin preparing for your solo show
at Xanadu Gallery. We will determine timing and set goals
and benchmarks to help you prepare for the show. |
|
| Studio Practices and
Production |
|
| After
we work together to set long-term goals, I will help you
optimize
your studio time, and increase your productivity. After many years of
working with successful artists, I have discovered how important
production is in building a long-term career. I also
understand
the importance of finding practices that help you avoid burn-out.
We'll work together to develop studio routines that will allow you to
more fully enjoy your time in the studio, and be more productive. |
|
| Organization |
|
| I've
met very few artists who enjoy the nuts and bolts of organizing a fine
art business. "Inventory," "Accounting," and "Organization"
are words that strike fear in the very marrow of many artists. What if
I could show you simple techniques that will make organizing your
studio a breeze? I will do just that. With a few
simple tools and practices, you will finally be in control of your
studio. |
|
| Artist Biography and
Artist Statement |
|
| Your
biography, resume, and artist statement are some of the most important
tools you have at your disposal to help you promote and market your
work. I'll help you craft these documents to share your story with
potential galleries and buyers. |
|
| Website Analysis, Design
Consultation |
|
| Your
website should be the hub of all of your marketing and promotional
activities. I'll analyze and give you feedback on your
website, and I'll help you redesign your site as needed. Your
mentorship will include a free ARTsala
web account, which you may use, if you choose, to host a modern,
elegant art website. (ARTsala
is our inventory management and web-building tool) |
|
| Social Media Strategies |
|
| I
will help you optimize your website for social media interaction. I'll
also help you implement a social media strategy that will keep you in
front of collectors and galleries. |
|
| Show Preparation |
|
| The
"Starving" to Successful Mentorship will culminate in a solo show at
Xanadu Gallery's Scottsdale location in the Spring of 2014 or 2015,
depending on how much time we feel is appropriate for you to prepare
for the show. The show will feature your work and you will learn what
goes into preparing for a successful solo-show. |
|
| Your Next Gallery |
|
| After
the solo-show, I will work with you to leverage the experience you've
gained in our mentorship and with the solo-show to establish
relationships with other galleries and continue to build your success.
We'll find appropriate markets for your work and select the right
galleries to approach for representation. |
|
| And
Much More. The "Starving" to Successful Mentorship will be a
comprehensive, career-changing experience, both for the artist who is
selected, and for those who are listening in on our coaching sessions. |
