Plastic Art for a Healthy Ocean

Calls for Submissions - Acrylic, Crafts, Glass, Mosaic, Jewelry, Mixed media, Sculpture, Pastel, Photography, Watercolor Other

Entries Wanted! Plastic pollution has become a global man-made catastrophe, so this summer, What You Can Do is raising awareness about this crisis and promoting change by hosting an art contest. We want artists of all levels to make a 2D or 3D ocean-inspired piece using primarily plastics and other mixed media. If you decide to create your work using solely #5 plastics, you can then choose to have your piece recycled and made into household goods through Preserve. We would like the pieces not to exceed 14x14x14inches. The art contest will be held at an intimate venue in NYC, and will be promoted on What You Can Do’s website and social media pages, along with the social media pages of the collaborating organizations. For those who are not NY based, your piece can be sent, or a photo can be sent or emailed, and that will be featured at the exhibit. The winner will receive a $100 prize, along with a matched donation made in their name to a reputable, top ocean saving organization. Our hope is to use art to shed light on the dire consequences plastic pollution is having on our environment, which will in turn spread awareness and promote the use of reusable containers. If you are interested in submitting, please email amanda@ontheleesh.com and provide your name and your method of submitting to the exhibit(delivering in person, shipping, or emailed photo).
